@26 Indian consulates in Afghanistan” Perhaps it is time Pakistan set up a “ministry of counting Indian consulates in Afghanistan”. The numbers change each day.

India should understand to take a strong stance when khargil war, parliament attack, 26/11 attack etc were all from Pakistan, hence current talks are leading to no where; it should change its strategy and get into better way of peacefully resolving the conflict and pressure Pakistan to end its terror on Indian soil.

US being smart should have by this time already realized that Pakistan can not be trusted; I’m not sure why they are still perusing Pakistan and pumping billion of US Tax payers money into the country which has no hope and country which still has to establish who runs the business – army generals, president or prime minister. Most of terror attack on US had links of Pakistan including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who was safeguarded in Pakistan however was arrested due to green bag supplied to Pakistan.
History speaks a lot, US funded and trained the mujahideen during Soviet war in Afghanistan during Carter and Reagan administrations which lead to formation of Al-Quida by OB Ladin; we all know what happend next. Now they are pumping money into Pakistan what if history repeats?

Pakistan should also pull there socks and understand they are becoming puppets of US by taking money for crabbing Afghan; they are also becoming victims of there own deed in the hands of Taliban and now China is taking advantage of situation and by way of helping Pakistan they are trying to show military supremacy in the region. Pakistan do not have any trust from India with whom if they had good relation there could have been much better country with political stability and civilian prosperity.

End of the day; India, Pakistan and US are getting affected by all these events. Everyone must understand there position and take a step back and think of next steps. US should stop interfering, Pak should first stop terror attack on India so that platform is created for bilateral talks and India should be more aggressive and take control of situation and resolve issues peacefully.

Only time will tell. Everyone other than Pakistanis have been saying that Pakistan is the epicenter of Islamic terrorism and one of the worst countries in the world currently. Just because the Americans threw a few biscuits to chew towards your side, it does not translate into a wonder world right away. Pakistan would have been a failed state if the US did not knock out the militants with its drones. Pakistani army did nothing in Waziristan other than move its tanks and shoot bullets in the air. The Americans killed off their key leaders. Pakistan has only preserved elements like Haqqani and Hekmatyar.

“Not anymore, coercive diplomacy and propaganda doesnt work well and India has lost credibility.”

I have not seen any mention of India losing credibility on anything. The US recently mentioned about anti-Indian terrorist groups still flourishing in Pakistan. The source of Mumbai attacks has been traced to the heart of Pakistan and no one has lost any credibility over that.

“Now your think tanks must sit together and bring some transparency in Indian policymaking”

Transparency is that Pakistan supports and sustains one of the worst terrorist elements in the world and India has made it quite transparent. There is nothing more left.

“Though I learnt Tim Giethner is in Delhi and wonder what US Treasury secretary is doing there”

He is there to fund the next Indian consulate in Afghanistan :-)

“US will look after its economic interests in India and security interests in Pakistan”

Not for long. The US will dump Pakistan as soon as it gets out of Afghanistan. They are being nice to Pakistan because the road to Kabul goes through Karachi and Islamabad. Economic ties are any day better for long term relationship. They make countries mutually dependent on each other and reduce any tension and misunderstanding. It is a step in the right direction. We’ll do business with the US and not dirry stuff like your dear country has been doing.

“It is upto India and Pakistan to mend their fences between them. Outsiders do’nt care much.”

Agreed on that one. Pakistani army does not want an end to any issues with India because it will raise a question on its grip on power. So it will sustain conflicts one after the other while the diplomats sit and warm the chairs. Mumbai attacks were staged to derail all the progress. We all know who was behind it. And we expect more like this because Pakistani army does not want peace in the region. It needs an enemy and it will do everything it can to keep that enmity alive. That is why we Indians have no faith in your country’s diplomats. They are all puppets of your military which decides all foreign policy in the region. We took away 30000 troops from Kashmir and Pakistan was supposed to reciprocate. Not one step has been taken in that regard.

We know the routine. We have been used to the hostility from Pakistan ever since our independence. We will keep up with it in the future as well. We are still here.

US can force pakistan to eliminate the terror infrastructur in POK, if soft diplomacy doesn’t work..”

This is a naive view of things at best. The US has never settled any dispute across the world. Wherever it entered “to solve” anything ended up in a much worse state than before. Look at its recent entry into Iraq and what it has created. The US has not come out of the cold war mindset yet. It will take a few decades of undoing for that to happen. It has made a total mess of everything including the Af-Pak. Though its government changes hands every four or eight years, there has been a consistency between the different regimes in terms of short sighted policies based on utter ignorance, trying to find quick solutions without considering long term impacts, aligning with the wrong group at the crucial stage of any issue, being happy with military hitech show etc..

You don’t want the US to get involved in anything. They are highly ignorant of the outside world and they have the most powerful and ignorant media in the world to back that. If the US is brought into Kashmir, it will spread the terror across the whole sub-continent. Pakistan has been facing suicide blasts almost daily now after the US increased its offensive inside Afghanistan. And they have not found a solution to that mess yet. Being clueless they are looking for excuses. I won’t be surprised if they end up linking the whole mess with Arab-Isreaeli conflict.

Kashmir issue or whatever issue between India and Pakistan can be resolved bilaterally. But Pakistan resembles its own cricket team. There are too many captains and inner conflicts which results in collective failure and inability to pose a common front. The only thing that unites them is hatred for India.

The US would have been better off going to war with Pakistan in 2001 instead of dancing around Afghanistan, Iraq etc. If the US had decimated Pakistan at that time, Kashmir issue will not be alive today. And the Taliban would be extinct along with many other “assets” that the Pak military maintains.

Let us wait for the Americans to pack their bags and go home. The region is better off without them. They are only going to make things worse by staying longer. They have not accomplished anything and are at the verge of begging the Taliban to come to shake hands with them.

The weakness on the Indians side is total ineptness. There is no proactive plans or moves. They just sit and wait for things to hurt them and then they react. There is no boldness or confidence in making the right decisions. Look at how they are handling the Maoist onslaught. Kashmir has gone out of control partly due to our own ineptness. India has to stop relying on the US for anything based on the lessons learnt. Pakistanis can vouch for that. Kashmir issue is fueled by Pakistan. If that part can be addressed, there will be no issue. Counter strategies are needed to gain leverage in the region. But our leaders are clueless. There is a finance guy running the home ministry. Another guy with no finance background is the finance minister. What do you expect to emerge out of this combination?

These are Indian propagandists at their best.
Myra, what I do not understand is why 2 countries, which are not able to solve their problems for the last 60 yrs, should have a issue with a mediator. Unless one or both of them are not honest about solving them and that one certainly is not Pakistan.
” Delhi politicians who usually ignore the Pakistani point of view and take the Kashmir discussion into a cul de sac called bilateral talks. During bilateral talks Delhi then kills all discussion by loudly proclaiming that Kashmir is an integral part of Bharat (aka India) and the topic of boundaries are not subject to negotiations. Since 1947 dozens of these talks have been held between Delhi and Pakistan–all ending in abject failure due to obduracy, intransigence and skullduggery of Delhi. Pakistan is not the only country that has faced Bharati tergiversation. Delhi has been unable to resolve its boundary disputes with any of her neighbors, namely Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Myanmar, China, Bangladesh”.

US can force pakistan to eliminate the terror infrastructur in POK, if soft diplomacy doesn’t work..extend drone attacks in to POK region to eliminate terrorists focused on hurting India..once India is comfortable with zero infiltration attempts, India can pull out of borders.tension is eased, pakistan can focus in AF-PAK region.
secondly US can diplomatically put pressure on Pak to concentrate on domestic issues rather than dreaming about kashmir..pak should have a good democracy, bring army and ISI under democratic leadership framework.
Which will help US, pakistan, India and the region in a bigger picture.

As a matter of interest I went through the last 2 pages on this blog and of 20 posts, 4 are general, otherwise the theme is the same – India Pak, Af – Pak, India – Pak – Kashmir, Taliban – Pakistan Afghanistan. Almost all conflict oriented and it is losing effect.

This blog is on Pakistan, surely there is more, and I know there is much more on Pakistan and the country, rather than Indo Pak talks/rivalry, Kashmir, water wars – imagined and feared, Taliban and Holbrooke/Obama/Good Taliban etc etc.

I came here, quite some time ago, hoping to get a grip on events in Pakistan, I got a dose of war clouds, conflicts and negativity. Reminds me of the two TV channels in India who are planning there own Indo-Pak wars, like here. Can we please move on from there? We have the same 10 odd people discussing and repeating the same old things, actually just two Pakistanis really, one with an apparent multiple ID syndrome, and now its got to a point where it is meaningless. The same thing is being said by the same people in differnet words. No one wants to even reply to points raised by the others, and this is true now of even the authors here. The lack of Pakistani opinion here is perhaps reflective of how much they think about what is discussed here.

Can we please have some positive energy around here? Its too stifling.
