Pakistan-based photographer Adrees Latif has one Photographer of the Year for the Freelance/Agency category at this year’s POYi Awards. Adrees’ work covering flooding, NATO tankers ablaze and the army’s fight against the Taliban in Pakistan in addition to his work during the anti-government protests in Thailand was recognized by the jury.
Adrees’ images of the flooding also garnered an Award of Excellence in the General News Pictures story category.
New York-based Lucas Jackson won Second Place in the Science/Natural History category for his image of lightning over Iceland’s erupting volcano.
Cathal McNaughton, who is based in Northern Ireland, was recognized with an Award of Excellence in the Feature category.
Toronto-based photographer Mark Blinch received an Award of Excellence in the Winter Olympics category.
