Michelle Obama and Jill Biden booed by NASCAR crowd

November 21, 2011

First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden received a hostile welcome at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Finale in Homestead, Florida, on Sunday, where they made an appearance to show support for military families.

The audience cheered loudly when the announcer asked servicepeople, veterans, and their families to stand for recognition. But when Obama and Biden were introduced, boos from the crowd drowned out most of the cheers.

Obama and Biden seemed to brush them off, joining retired Sergeant Andrew Barry and his family in excitedly delivering “the most famous words in motor sports”: “Gentlemen, start your engines!”
