We haven’t had to use it but know of several cases when it saved families from being put out on the street.

Every insurance company has a smiley-face side that sells policies and a frowny-face side, called adjustors, who find ways to keep from paying claims. This is not efficient and provides only the illusion of safety.

Automobile insurance has worked out well: people drive carefully, not to avoid injury, but to avoid higher insurance premiums. Health insurance, on the other hand, has obscured the true cost of health care, raised the costs, and created a national insanity: we are not worried about getting injured or sick, we are worried about not having health insurance.
