The past few weeks have not been great for real estate owner and developer Vornado Realty Trust but it’s been one hell of week for Daryl Roth, Vornado Chairman Steven Roth’s wife.
The company lost the bid to redevelop the Hudson Yards to Tishman Speyer. On March 27, 2008, Madison Square Garden officials announced they would renovate their existing arena and essentially killed Vornado’s plan to put the Garden in the back end of the Moynihan Station project near Pennsylvania Station in New York City.
“Time will tell,” Roth wrote in his yearly letter to shareholders.
But Broadway producer Daryl Roth’s returns were much better. This week, one of the many plays she has produced, “August:Osage County,” won the Pulitzer Prize in the drama category — the sixth Pulitzer-Prize winning play she’s produced.
Steven Roth ended his yearly correspondence with:
“P.S. I am delighted to arrange tickets for shareholders and colleagues to any of the Broadway plays that my wife is producing this season ‘Curtains,’ ‘August:Osage County,’ ‘A Catered Affair,’ ‘The Country Girl’ and ‘Thurgood.’”
