The name “Myanmar” that seems to be rapidly gaining usage by many media outlets since the recent cyclone is not the correct name for the country. “Myanmar” is the name chosen by the military junta - this decision was not approved by any sitting legislature in Burma. Indeed the elected government of Burma (now in exile), and the vast majority of the people of Burma (not to mention the CIA World Fact Book) still prefer the correct name, “Burma”. The correct name for the country formerly known as “Burma” is – Burma.
