Whole life, you said it yourself, is an amalgam of term and cash value. This cash value, sure, is an asset. But the “insurance” is most definitely not.

Insurance hedges an asset – your home, your car, your health.

Insurance only becomes relevant in “an event.” Other wise, its simply an expense.
