Osama Bin Laden is dead – prove it

May 2, 2011

When the news broke that Osama Bin Laden was dead, at the Reuters Global Pictures Desk in Singapore all we could think was one thing: We have to see the picture of the dead body. The world needed the tangible proof of a genuine photo before we could really absorb the idea that the world’s most sought and also most elusive Islamic extremist was dead. We also knew that the news agency that was first in sending a picture of his dead body to the world would go a long way to winning this historic story. Sending out a fake picture could be very embarrassing to say the least – a tough balancing act when under such pressure.

A few hours later there it was circulating on the internet: Osama Bin Laden’s bloodied face in a video transmitted by a TV station in Pakistan. Under tremendous pressure we could get the picture and fed it into our picture editing system in preparation for transmission around the globe.

But was it really Osama? It was rumoured that the source was US military but the editors on the Global Picture Desk found inconsistencies that immediately made us suspicious. There was odd pixilation and blurring and his face was darker in some areas than others. The biggest problem was that the picture looked familiar somehow. Quickly looking through dozens of our archive pictures we found that the bottom half of Osama Bin Laden’s face was identical to a picture of him speaking at a news conference in 1998. After flipping the picture 180 degrees and overlaying it with the picture of the dead Osama Bin Laden we had a perfect match. It was a fake.

The fake picture was locked in our system so that it couldn’t be sent out but would be saved for future training exercises. Meanwhile, the fake picture quickly gained momentum in cyber space.

We’re still waiting for that genuine picture of the body of Osama Bin Laden.

I did a Google image search on “dead osama bin laden” early this morning and found the same image.

horrendous photoshop job done on this image.

This is obviously a fake image. Why were we allowed to see Sadam’s (and his son’s) death pictures for weeks on end and not ONE of Usama? Where’s the O gone? If so respectful to his religion why bury a desert dweller at sea? Consider the timing too. Happy happy joy joy!! I’m suspicious. People who NEED/WANT to believe this? DIG deep, and ask questions. Don’t just accept what they tell you!

Already debunked.

I tend to agree with this. FIrst thing I though of this conspiracy was that they killed an obl lookalike, photoshopped the photos, threw him to sea, etc. I believe this is a tactic to boost a failing presidency of obama bin biden. Pakistan was paid off. Maybe it was a deception even the Navy didn’t know about?

He Isn’t dead… it’s obvious that the picture is made up.

oh brother. This guy wants to be prez again so much he is rolling out fake birth certifs, (why couldn’t Abercrombie find it and airmail it to him, instead he had to send a special delegation of one “lady” to pick it up and hand deliver it?) he is still hiding other documents… guess that Prof at Occidental that he brought into the Oval Office right after he sat down behind the desk to talk about his “plans for health care” (per the Prof to a reporter haha) is still on the job watching out for O’s records there. Now he issues ORDERS to KILL Osama, regardless of how much Americans wanted him CAPTURED so he could talk. Like the birth certif, looks like the “kill” was fake too. After all, Obama can tell most of the people anything most of the time, and most of the people will believe him. But like Lincoln said, some of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Get it?

You can wait, reporters, for the real deal photo and real deal birth certif, but it won’t land in your laps. You’d have to be smart and investigative RISK takers, because there are sufficient liars, crooks, thieves in govt today who love to kiss arse… and now same bums are lie-ders of military, think they are smart to con us with anything… until SUMBODDY like the little soldier the bums kept in solitare, or like Assange, pops up with the patriotism to fight these devils and get the truth. Better stop shopping, ladies and look at your children, your homes, your country, your schools, the peds now in Dept Ed, and your sick society. Ladies pretty much covers it all.

@ 1776 …This picture is OLD. Obama has nothing to do with its resurfacing.

Reports say he “resisted” ..indicating he was probably armed. Its hard to capture someone going down with a fight without losing any men (Navy SEALS).

So you’re a birther? Nothing is ever going to please those with a similar disposition towards the whole birth certificate topic..

Maybe its the classic Elites vs everyone else. They control the flow in information (news media corporations ..owned by the super rich aka elites) and they also are in government. The president is merely a puppet, like that position has likely always been.
Just my take on things.

I spotted this as a fake, too. A poor fake at that. What the hell? I believe bin ladin died a while ago and now the government is trying to take credit. They buried the body at sea? Yeah… right…

The photo looks like a man who has been beaten to death, not shot?

Posted by victor07021951 | Report as abusive

Faking images is from all times, belonging to all major historical events. Sometimes it is done by ‘underground’ people, sometimes ordered by the governments (remember Lenin & Stalin event manipulations?) & sometimes governments just take advantage of the wild public rumors, pleasing the public opinion. In this case it is a real fail of the creator, using a well-known public image. It becomes an art when it is taken over by all major press-agencies as genuine historical image.

Shot twice in the head and his body dumped at sea from a helicopter, yea, sure gov, we believe you, you’ve never lied to us in the past. I hope Al-c.i.a.-da don’t follow through with their threats of nuclear cataclysm now that we got the big O. Or are we headed for yet another false flag event? Watch the skys. Keep your heads down.x

glad to see not everybody is sucked in by medias (official” story. the man the yanks have been looking for nearly a decade, is found, killed and his body is tossed to sea!!!!? i find that hard to belive. Saddams two sons were killed their moustaches and beards were put back on and paraded on tv all over the world. saddam himself remember, his hanging was leaked onto the internet for all to see. apparently no country wanted to take his (bin laden) body. if a government can make up stuff like this i wouldn’t put it past them to inflict an attack on its own people and blame it on someonelse to achieve their stealth occupation of the arab regions (oil.) this is just the tip of the ice berg for a whole new wave of propaganda. where they’re going with this is anyones guess, but one thing i know for sure, there are few more wars the yanks have left to fight to achieve (i hope to God they don’t.) new world order agenda.

I think Obama is so desperate to be re elected he’ll do anything to get some feathers in his cap at this point cause he has done NOTHING productive for this country thus far. First the news reported “U.S. has posession of the dead body” then 10 minutes later the news reported Bin Laden’s body was thrown overboard!!!!. What a crock. How naiive people are. Where are the pix of the dead body? I think most Americans can stomach the viewing at this point– we had to see the dead bodies of 911 victims. Convince us this guy is DEAD Barack OBAMA. I hope Trump runs for prez and Americans wise up! Americans: demand pictures of Bin Ladens Body -don’t believe everything you hear! Buddygirl.

Posted by buddygirl1 | Report as abusive

picture is old. Bin Laden had more white hair in his beard lately. Also the picture of the dead bin laden shows the same mouth being open when he speaks. Lips are lifted and I find it strange that the mouth would look like this even when dead. photoshopped maybe?

Posted by FNAB | Report as abusive

Once again, we are fed lies from official sources, with no chance of repudiating them. They’ve disposed of a body – whether it’s OBL’s or not – so they can just shrug off all requests to prove it was him.

The fake photograph is just the latest in a long, long line of con-tricks the governments of the world are pulling on us, the “unsuspecting” public.

Tony Blair’s remarks were also very telling.

when i saw that photo of dead osame i knew it was photoshopped and i’m not even a good photoshopper. When people die, the mouth relaxes it isn’t “held” in a living position.

On the same search page of “dead” osama were pictures of live osama…the mouth was the same…also the photoshopper messed with the proportions of the eyes they are misplaced in the dead osama photo.

Also floating around on the net is a photo that some newspaper provided as “evidence” that Obama was in college and played basketball. Another photoshopped photo that was ez to see Obama had been “added” to the original photo…and the photoshopper copied a jacket off one guy on the back row! They forgot to change the number on it after putting the jacket on obama plus the photoshopper forgot to put the band on the sleeve..they manipulated a few areas of the jacket but it still glared as a “copy” jacket from the boy sitting to Obama’s right a couple people down. I can’t believe the people who fall for this junk from this so called “president’..he is a thief and a liar and the truth is not in him. And that situation room photo, please.

Posted by bamissfa | Report as abusive

Well all we can really do is hope its real. If he’s dead, then he is dead. If not then we’ll still have to deal with it, simple as that… Seems kind of funny though that they buried him at sea and did it so soon. They claim that it was according to Islamic law but I don’t know enough about it to know for sure. Ive never heard of it till all this happened so it seems weird.

Benazir Bhutto: Bin Laden was Murdered (2007)

The BBC had excised Bhutto’s comment but was forced to reinsert the footage in its version after the unedited version appeared on YouTube.

Benazir Bhutto, who told David Frost in late 2007 that Osama bin Laden was murdered by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who is also one of the men convicted of kidnapping and killing journalist Daniel Pearl.

On January 18, 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf announced quite bluntly: “I think now, frankly, he is dead.”

On July 17, 2002, the then-head of counterterrorism at the FBI, Dale Watson, told a conference of law enforcement officials that “I personally think he [Bin Laden] is probably not with us anymore,” before carefully adding that “I have no evidence to support that.”

In October 2002, Afghan President Hamid Karzai told CNN that “I would come to believe that [Bin Laden] probably is dead.”

In November 2005, Senator Harry Reid revealed that he was told Osama may have died in the Pakistani earthquake of October that year.

In September 2006, French intelligence leaked a report suggesting Osama had died in Pakistan.

On November 2, 2007, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto told Al-Jazeera’s David Frost that Omar Sheikh had killed Osama Bin Laden.

In March 2009, former US foreign intelligence officer and professor of international relations at Boston University Angelo Codevilla stated: “All the evidence suggests Elvis Presley is more alive today than Osama Bin Laden.”

In May 2009, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari confirmed that his “counterparts in the American intelligence agencies” hadn’t heard anything from Bin Laden in seven years and confirmed “I don’t think he’s alive.”

Journalists have not asked the right questions.
1. Wikipedia used to say that both the ISI and French intelligence reports claimed that Osama bin Laden died from his kidney problems in December 2001 following the invasion of Afghanistan. Then Pakistan President, General Musharaf agreed. Over the following 10 years there have no credible videos of him, so the weight of evidence would indicate he died then.
2. Abbottabad is a city of 120,000 people with an elite Military Academy of 1000 staff and students less than 2km away from his compound. Everyone familiar with Pakistan will know that in these ‘small’ cities everyone knows everyone’s business so it is just not credible that his presense went unnoticed, especially by Military personnel.
3. The US has claimed his body was dumped at sea in accordance with Islamic customs. This announcement was made within hours of his death. So how credible is to believe they flew his body 300km back to Afghanistan by helicopter, then transferred it to a plane? And flew it a 1000km to where exactly? And dumped it in sea. What sort of plane? A slow cargo plane? A slow helicopter? How and where was the body dumped? Where are the photos of them dumping it? Presumably these are not too gruesome.
4. It is not Islamic custom to bury bodies at sea unless they died on a boat. The religious requirement is that bodies be buried the same day close to where they died and a prayer be held for them. Was a prayer held for him by an Imam, in the plane before they tossed his body into the sea? If Islamic custom was being followed he would have been buried in an unmarked grave near his home. Even Saudi kings are buried in unmarked graves and no there are no grave-shrines in that country.
5. The announcement was that the DNA was verified from his sister. DNA testing takes a minimum of 12 hours to perform. Which lab verified it? Was it based in Afghanistan. The testing must have been done after his body was dumped at sea.
6. There are inconsistencies in the story. Eyewitnesses say a rocket was fired at one helicopter and it crashed. YouTube clips show children picking up helicopter parts. US Officials have stated no helicopter was shot down but say one had mechanical faults.
7. It is said the house was suspicious because it had no phone or internet. From YouTube it appears they had Satillite TV. How do we know they didn’t have a phone line? In Pakistan where phones are unreliable most people are using mobiles so there is nothing particularly suspicious about not having a phone line, if indeed that is true. As for the internet, Pakistan has wireless too, so perhaps they used that.
8. When Saddam Hussein and his sons were killed; film, photos, DNA tests and a very late burial were all documented and released to remove doubt.
The WikiLeak cables have documented the dishonesty of the US Government in relation to the War on Terror. Yet the media have blindly accepted there latest announcement as if its the Gospel truth. Why hasn’t anyone demanded evidence?
Is it possible they have not released any photos because there are no photos? Is it possible the photos are of someone else? Is it possible they have not released further DNA information because there isn’t any to release?
One letter to an editor presented a scenario which should be examined. It goes like this.
1. The US needed to have a bogeyman in Afghanistan so continued saying bin Laden was alive even though evidence showed otherwise.
2. The Afghan Government is trying to talk to the Taliban to end the war which is not going well. Afterall it is said ‘empires go to Afghanistan to die’. Britain, Russia and seemingly the US have all found that out. It is very possible the Taliban may return to some sort of power again.
3. The US would find it easier to justify scaling back and withdrawing from the region once their arch-enemy, and reason for going there (bin Laden) was dead. By killing him they withdraw claiming ‘Mission Accommplished’. Sort of like the 1973 Agreement over Vietnam allowing an honourable withdrawal.
4. Possibly this compound in Abbottabad, which may or may not have direct links to either Pakistan’s ISI and/or a terrorist group, had relatives of bin Laden. Conducting this operation is a good cover and has won media approval.
Until; photos, DNA evidence and video film footage of the operation (which the US cabinet are seen watching live) are released, it should not be believed it was bin Laden who died there.
This account would not hold up in court and it should not be accepted prima facie by the media either.

The news about the death of Osama bin Laden is much less important than the popular uprisings moving on in the Arab world.

Bin Ladens death is not immensely relevant considering the huge revolution in the Arab world that was probably kindled by Osama’s raw courage in spite of weak resources and hostile world opinion.

If the Arab masses think that a Osama the big “terrorist” contributed massively to Arab regime change, then Osama had achieved something. The wrong way or right way, is for historians to judge.

How was Omar Mokthar the Libyan freedom fighter and martyr judged by Italian historians and the Arab historians? Did they use the same yard stick? But the Arab streets seem to say thank you to Bin Laden for feeding a flame that has all the potential to rage into an out-of-control blaze.

Bin Laden always wanted to get rid of Mubarek and Ben Ali and Gaddafi and so on claiming that they were all “infidels” working for America.

We have to remember that these oppressive regimes have always been telling the Americans to keep on supporting them because they kept saying, if you don’t, Al Qaeda will take over . Did Al Qaeda take over Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Syria, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan and so on or is it going to take over?

What and who helped them to take over is going to be an interesting part of historians’ future investigation and research.

Celebrations in the United States over Bin Laden’s death are less meaningful compared to the celebrations of the Arab masses on the successful people’s revolutions partly fuelled by the lunatic fringe called Al-Qaeda.

If the U.S. had killed Bin Laden a year or two after 9/11 the celebrations that are going on in the United States might have been more relevant.

The struggle against terrorism will not be won through killing, no matter how many people we assassinate.

You don’t fight malaria by seeking to kill every mosquito on the planet, but rather by draining the swamps ( Please address the root cause, look at for instance, the sufferings of Palestinians:the dispossessed, deprived of their birthright and denied basic human rights and freedoms,)

The pious Christians also believe that if we could accomplish God’s justice by killing people, Jesus would not have come to die, but to kill. But that’s not how God’s justice works but does the Neocons justice work the same way?

It does not look like a fake to me, though I am no expert. This same photo appeared in an Irish newspaper, The Evening Herald on May 2nd, giving credit to the Pakistani TV on which this photo was shown. I only came to this site at the request of my friend that was telling me it was fake. Misinformation is abundant, leading to much speculation about what is actually real or unreal. However, I do believe he is dead, so it matters not if this is the real deal photo or not. Gadaffi, better start packing your bags. Get out while you still can.
