The hunt for T.M.X. Elmo is on, and it’s not a pretty one.
Since T.M.X. went on sale in September, the $40 furry red doll from Mattel has been flying off store shelves and winding up for resale at huge mark-ups on online.
At the moment, T.M.X. is out of stock online at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart and KB Toys. Target’s Web site says the doll is only available in stores–but good luck finding one there.
Amazon and EBay have an ample supply of the doll — for those willing to shell out the big bucks.
So is TMX Elmo and his laughing stunts worth spending $100 or more to get one before Christmas? Or will those who wait for the hype to die down have the last laugh?
Tell us what you think.

Remember being a kid and giving a ‘good for one hug’ card as a gift? Me neither, but ‘good for either a THX Schlomo or a Power Wrangler’ might get the strapped parent off the hook, while giving the choice to the kid.
- Posted by Shawn HendricksMattel does this every Christmas to build awareness and sales. Why haven’t I bought stock yet? Oh, yeah! I’m a parent!
- Posted by Shawn HendricksDo your kids a big favor. Buy them a computer and the virtual Yell-more. It will help make them PC savvy. In a couple of years they’ll be helping you with your income tax software ‘game’.
- Posted by Shawn HendricksAfter searching relentlessly, we were able to get an inside tip on a shipment date for the Elmo TMX dolls. We waited in line for hours to insure we would get one….well, we did AND what a totaly disappointment. It is cute, but, the kids (1 & 3 years) were not impressed. They initially played with it for about an hour and since then Elmo has stayed in the toy pile.
- Posted by CJPLEASE take some advise and don’t pay more for this toy. If the kids MUST have it and you can’t find it in the store, wait until after the holidays. I’m sure they will be available then.
