Check out the waiting game.
U.S. shoppers are waiting for the big discounts to come and will keep their wallets closed if they don’t see them, according to a new survey.
About 44 percent of consumers surveyed said they intend to wait for 50-percent off sales to finish shopping and 47 percent said they will give fewer presents if retailers fail to offer better deals, according to consumer marketing firm America’s Research Group.
“Retailers have gotten themselves into a box,” Britt Beemer, founder and chairman of the group, said. “The two weekends after Thanksgiving, retailers haven’t given consumers great deals.”
A total of 31.4 percent surveyed said they are seeing less big discounts this year than last year, the highest level seeing less discounts in recent years, the survey said. Still, 34.1 percent said they are seeing more big discounts.
