I have a few questions about the structure of this process. Who exactly are the lenders in this situation? What sort of socio-economic backgrounds do they come from? How is accountability maintained?

As an intern with Opportunity International (opportunity.org), a global microfinance organization, I have gained insight into how microfinance works. It has become apparent to me that savings programs are incredibly important. Furthermore, ideas such as trust groups are a way of ensuring that loans are paid back and that people feel accountable. Furthermore, we find it imperative that we provide people with the tools they need to succeed. Therefore, extensive training is involved. I was wondering how peer to peer lending takes these factors into account or what other factors it finds important.
