Jobs didn’t do that with Apple. He let the public know what he was going to sell them, how it solved their problems, and that they could pre-order the product online." I think you would find that Apple in general, has one of, if not the the shortest announcement to sales channel trends in the industry. Apple has a very strict "no comment" policy about unannounced products. Don't confuse consumer excitement in advance of an product keynote with pre-selling. 90% of the time when Jobs announced a product onstage he would also followup with "and that product is available today".
