Beto has a point, though, doesn't he? Brazil should be able to afford to sort things out in time if they're the 10th richest nation on earth.

Kev,

I don't think you can buy such as thing as a monthly bus pass in Brazil. You have to pay for each trip as you go along. The buses themselves are quite comfortable but the roads often leave much to be desired. You can cover distances in the Rio de Janeiro/Sao Paulo/Belo Horizonte region by bus but going from one end of the country is going to take several days, so you won't see many games.

It seems that anyone who dares to question Brazil as World Cup hosts is automatically branded as a conspirator working on behalf of Europe or the United States. I think it's condescending on Brazil to think that they can't take a bit of criticism. Isn't Brazil big enough to stand up for itself? Or are foreign correspondents simply supposed to reproduce propaganda for the local football federation/government? And, by the way, the Brazilian media does plenty of hemming and hawing when it has to go and cover events in smaller nations (the Copa America in Venezuela, the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic etc etc).

We'll find out soon enough, but from the tone of the inspection report it seems pretty certain that they're going to go with Brazil. How much does a month-long bus pass cost, brian?

I agree with Beto, it's a bit daft to poo-poo the chances of a world top-ten economic power to host a successful World Cup. I'm tired of hearing all of the hemming and hawing about countries like South Africa (2010) and Brazil (2014) not being up to snuff. It smacks of Western condescension. Put the funds and resources into South Africa and Brazil, and they will both host amazing World Cups!!
