Spain is again in the top line and I'm sure they will produce a spectacular game at the 2010 World Cup. They never lost a game this whole year, as I know, they hold the record in Europe.
But... there's so much fuss about the next Soccer World Cup, will it pay off? Will the investment return?

Hopefully the stadia will be finished on time. Green Point was still an immense building site when I was there 2 weeks ago. It worries me that your average football fan might be expecting to enjoy themselves drinking and exploring the streets of the host cities of an evening. Unfortunately this is not going to happen unless there is a radical change in security and a development of a bar culture over the next 2 years.

Don't they have rats in Spain - or did Franco have them all shot ? Basil Fawlty! Yeah, back to South Africa and I'm prepared to risk a trip there despite all that you hear! I can only hope that the public transport gets sorted out or it could be very hairy getting back from the stadiums. Once in a lifetime experience though and I get the feeling I may regret it if I don't go.

Funny you say that about all world cup hosts having problems. Sometimes I can't believe Spain staged the World Cup just seven years after the death of Franco, and a year after an attempted coup d'etat (which I watched on John Craven's Newsround).
