Friday afternoon question: Your predictions for 2008

Will Buffon help Italy to Euro 2008 glory or will his bobble hat with a hole in the top finally slip over his eyes?Journalists, pundits and fans alike are notoriously bad at making predictions.

Just over 10 years ago, I bet a lot of money that Sheffield Wednesday would win the Premier League!

With the New Year upon us, it is your chance to make a fool of yourself or pick out a pearler. Greece to win Euro 2004? Never.

1. Who will win Euro 2008 and what will be the result in the final?

2. Which team will triumph in the Champions League? Surely AC Milan and Liverpool can’t meet in the final again?

3. How will the domestic leagues in Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France pan out? Have Inter already won? Can Arsenal’s young Gunners hang on? Will Barcelona pick up the pace and steal the title back off Real?

4. Where will Ronaldinho be by August? And what about Jose Mourinho?

5. Who will be Fabio Capello’s England captain? David Beckham or Peter Crouch?

6. Will Gianluigi Buffon stop wearing that silly hat?

Go stare into those crystal balls and give us your views.

I’ll kick us off
1. Germany 1-0 Spain. I know people always say Spain and they always underachieve but the experience of Torres playing in another league, Fabregas being more mature, and the defence still looking ok means this time they can make the final. Germany were unlucky at the World Cup and playing in German speaking nations, they can surprise again with their team ethic. World champions Italy were not fluent enough in qualification.
2. Inter 2-1 Man Utd. Inter play a sort of English style and they are underdogs despite running away with Serie A again.
3.Real, Man Utd, Inter, Bayern…ermmm Lyon
4. He’ll still be at Barca..injured, having been put off Milan by their continued poor season. On the other hand Jose will therefore be waiting for the San Siro hotseat so will snub Bayern.
5. Gerrard will succeed Terry, who may be too much of a prankster for Fabio. Beckham will get more than 100 caps
6. He will wear something more summery at Euro 2008 but will still be trying to keep the hair out if his eyes

Euro 2008, surely Spain must finally cast aside their “perennial underachiever” tag and achieve something of note at major tournament. (a 2-1 win over Croatia in the final maybe?).

Dark horses Sevilla to win the Champions League. Espanyol to shock everyone and beat Real and Barca to the title (dreaming I know).

Ronaldinho to follow Figo’s example and defect to Madrid and Mourinho to take charge at Barca just to upset the fans. It would make a good story anyway.

1) Portugal will triumph in the final as they have two of the finest players in the world in Ronaldo and Quersema.
2)AC Milan or Man United will lift the Champions league
3)Man United, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Lyon should win their domestic leagues
4)Ronaldinho will still be a Barca player come august but will move to a new club in the summer. Jose Mourhino is looking towards the AC Milan job.
5)The new England captain will either be Gerrard or Terry. Beckham will be made captain for his 100th cap which the FA will insist he has!
6)He is a good keeper regardless of if he wears a hat.

1) I think Croatia will be one of the teams of the tournament in Euro 2008, but don’t think they will win it. I’m going with Mark’s final, but 1-0 to Spain, for reasons already stated (Torres, Fabregas etc.)

2)Liverpool won’t win it and Benitez will be sacked after finishing out of the top four in the Prem (Man City 4th). I think Man United will win it.

3)Arsenal, Real Madrid, Lyon, Werder Bremen and Inter Milam (yes I think they have already won it) to win their leagues.

4)I think Ronaldinho will end up signing for Chelsea and disappointing for them.

5)I think, or rather hope, Gerrard. Agree with Darren above regarding Beckham.

1)I’m going with Mark’s final at the top, but with a 1-0 victory for Spain for reasons already stated (Torres, Fabregas etc.) I think Croatia will be the team to watch though.

2) Liverpool won’t win it and Benitez will be sacked after finishing out of the top four in the Prem (Man City 4th). I think Man United will win it.

3) Arsenal, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and Lyon will win their leagues.

4) I think Ronaldinho might end up signing for Chelsea, and will probably disappoint for them.

5) I think, or rather hope, it will be Gerrard. Agree with Darren’s comments on Beckham.

6) Tea Cosy.

1) I’m one of Spain’s fans, but I think the champion will be one of Portugal and Italy
2) Of course Real Madrid, win the champion league.
3) Italy: Inter
Spain: Real Madrid
England: Arsenal
Germany: Werder Bremen
France: Olympique Lyon
4) Ronaldinho to Chelsea
Mourinho to AC Milan
5) David Beckham

1) France 2-1 Croatia. Spain goes to the semis but if spain didn’t keep underachieving then they wouldn’t be spain.

2) Man U gets the silverware

but

3) Does not win domestic. Arsenal, Real, Bayern, Inter, and it’d be odd if Lyon didn’t win

4) Who cares? And Mourinho will be at Bayern

5) Gerrard the Great. Beckham will get to 107 caps and then be involved in a doping scandal.

6) I’m hoping Buffon brings back the baseball cap

6. He has his strength in his hat… like Samson had in his hair!

I predict 2008 as a year where well-deserving teams finally win something :)

1) Euro2008 = Spain to finally win something. 3-1 against the opponent.

2) Champions League = Arsenal to finally win it.

3) La Liga = Real Madrid , SerieA = Inter , Bundesliga = Bayern Munich , EPL = (as much as i absolutely hate to say it) Man-u

4) Ronaldinho will remain in Barca. Mourinho will be in Juventus

5) John Terry. Capello won’t rock the boat that much.

6) hint to the opposing team… It is the source of his powers!

1. FRANCE v Portugal 2-1
2. Manchester United of course
3. Man United, Inter, Real Madrid, Lyon, Bayern Munich.
4. Barcelona. He’s not going anywhere
5. Neither. It will be John Terry or Stevie G, probably the former.
6. Yes, when he retires.

1.Spain beat France 2-1
2.Sevilla
3.Real Madrid
4.Ronaldinho to Italy somewhere. Mourinho to Italy though Bayern would be perfect partnership.

1) Italy against Portugal in the finals
2) For sure AC Milan vs probably Man U
3) Man U, Inter, Madrid, Lyon and Bayern
4) Ronny will stay at Barca, Mourinho will go to AC Milan if they dont win champions league, maybe even still
5) John Terry will retain the captaincy but Beckham will have it for the next game
6) that thing, whatever it is, is obviously to keep the hair out of his eyes, if he doesnt wear it at the euros expect to see a different hairstyle on buffon for every match italy are involved in

1. Greece 1 Portugal 0. Lightning strikes twice.

Anyone watching Juve’s 1-1 draw at Catania on Saturday will know that Buffon dispensed with the hat and an instead wore a hairband. The campaign has worked!
