A typical joke appointment by Newcastle United.
How can a bloke who has not watched a game for almost 3 years come into a Premiership club and transform it?
The only place that this could happen is in the City of the Brain dead, namely Newcastle!!!
The guy Ashley, has obviously made zillions in business but it must have been a fluke!
He clearly knows bugger all about football.
Keegan the useless will fail miserably. When it happens perhaps the Geordie numptieswill realise that their football club is a complete and utter laughingstock.

It seems as though Mike Ashley just wants to appeal to the Newcastle fans rather than biding his time and signing a better quality manager.
Although saying that, at this point in time I believe that a coach of the standing such as Keegan is the best Newcastle fans could hope for. All the talk about Lippi and Mourinho must have been purely speculation, if either of these two took the post it would be a massive step down in their career as the Toon are not as big a club as they would like to believe.

Based purely on track record and past evidence, it points closer to success than disaster.

But whether Keegan is attuned to current affairs of football and adapting his strategies relevently remains to be seen.

I know Kevin Keegan is his own man and can make his own decisions ,but i worry he has not thought this one through.It is not as easy to play gung-ho now in the Premiership as when he last managed them.Any tactical naivity is now exposed more easily and often.
Is he aware of this ?.
He has said he hasnt watched any live football during his time off.
So what’s Newcastle’s plan?, give him the money to sign a load of mavericks to let them entertain and throw no caution to the wind.After all as long as it’s entertaining.
However, i can see Newcastle and Keegan having a good run on the outset of his sort of homecoming.
It’s a living for the moment style apointment and a world away from Big Sam’s approach.
Will their games be exciting ?, you bet.Will he be there for the long term ?,doubt it.

Can’t argue with either of the last two posts. Keegan will do fine, albeit unspectacularly; there’s no way he can replicate his previous near-success in the current oligarchy. But I’m a complete sucker for these sort of decisions that are based seemingly more on sentiment than science, and it would warm a lot of cynical hearts if he somehow managed to bring some silverware to Tyneside.

Like…like, Marcello Lippi at Juventus?

I’m with London - this is fantastic. I was one of those thousands of people who really wanted Newcastle to win the Premier League in the 1990’s - days when English football was far more entertaining and fun than today.

Its a romantic decision, a Roy of the Rovers decision, a very Geordie decision and I hope it works out magnificently.

After the way he was written off by the London press following his time with England it would be wonderful to see Keegan go and win something serious with Newcastle.

I’d love it, just love it……

I dare say I’ll be in a minority of one, but I think it’s an inspired choice. He’s such a positive force, I’m sure he’ll be good for them, at least short term.

I have just thought of one.. capello( also in the news today..see earlier blog) of course won the league last season at his second spell with Real…but he was still sacked…
