Has it reached the stage where a Champions League semi-final is not enough to safeguard a coach’s job?
Avram Grant, whose Chelsea side visit Liverpool in their first leg on Tuesday, is under pressure despite his team stil having an outside chance of the Premier League title.
Boardroom squabbles mean Rafa Benitez is not 100 percent certain to be at Anfield next season while Barcelona’s Frank Rijkaard desperately needs a win against Manchester United on Wednesday to deflect attention from Primera Liga disappointment.
And what about poor Roberto Mancini? He is on the verge of leading Inter Milan to another scudettoand yet the papers are again full of talk that Jose Mourinho is San Siro-bound.
Surely the problems at PSG and Valencia show what real failure is like? Our dynamic duo Owen Wyatt and Jon Bramley discuss the pressure on coaches these days and want your views.

Owen Wyatt’s favourite manager Lawrie Sanchez for the Chelsea job?
- Posted by RileyYour comments on the danger Valencia and PSG are in were interesting. By comparison we now have Nottingham Forest (Former European Cup winners) and Leeds (Champions League semi finalists) both in the third tier of English football. Both look like they’ve qualified for the play offs with Forest even in with a chance of automatic promotion.
Most footie fans have a soft spot for Forest thanks to the the entertaining Mr Clough. Leeds on the other hand are generally disliked; ‘Dirty Leeds’ being the common chant due to the Revie years and of course because of the ongoing 15 point deduction saga. Both, of course, will have to overcome the mighty Southend United.
- Posted by Jimwell John Arne Riise’s amazing own goal has given Grant a bit of a boost.
Liverpool co owner Tom Hicks went to Anfield despite police warning him not to. He sat along way from ceo rick parry, who he has asked to resign. Benitez did nothing wrong though despite the 1-1
