Pires is a very talented player but somehow never quite wins the same admiration as others as say Messi, because of this 'cleverly winning freekicks' aspect of his play. In other words he is a diver. 

So what, you might say, lots of talented players do it, to a degree it is a way of protecting themselves. 
Just, sometimes it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.</description>
