Vlog on the Pitch meets Clint Dempsey

February 10, 2009

As Tony Adams and then Luiz Felipe Scolari discovered this week, football is not a patient game.

In a recent interview aired on Revista de la Liga on Sky Sports, Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado said that at his club there was no such thing as a long term project as far as he could see. All that mattered was what was happening now.

This results-driven impatience is not a phenomenon exclusive to the top clubs and in his two seasons with Fulham Clint Dempsey has played for three managers and seen a fair few team mates come and go.

The Texan has found first team chances hard to come by but he’s still managed to make an impact, notably when scoring a crucial goal against Liverpool to keep his side in the top flight at the end of the 2006-07 season.

Things have been looking up for him this term and he recently scored a brace against Chelsea in the West London derby.

Dempsey is living proof that even in Premier League it can pay to be patient. Click the video above to hear what he has to say.

I one of the few fulham fans who actually venture north of the watford gap for away games…when the cold reality hits in that you are in sunderland on a cold tuesday night, bobby z is succesfully finding row Z whenever he gets the chance and john pantsil is having another mad half hour, clints effort and hustle are a really nice thing to see……He is a true battler who not only puts himself about but has great potential if he continues to improve….Roy hodgson has done a fantastic job with fulham, not only in making us a quality unit, he has also shown his nouse and shrewd decision making when it came to clint…he gave him his shot and has rewarded him with keeping him the team…One love…super paul konchesky

Clint Dempsey is an amazing footballer. He hit about 6 shots off the woodwork in the last 3 days, scoring one today. He is naturally right footed, but now his left seems to be his preference. I am a huge Fulham fan because of Roy Hodgeson and Clint Dempsey. Watching the Great Escape last year was the highlight of football, and seeing them in the top 8 this year is a well earned joy. Keep up the good work Clint!
