I followed the Diplomats when I lived in N. Virgina, and I was was there for the beginning of MLS with the Metrostars when I lived in NYC. I followed that club for 12 years into it's Red Bull present. There were more downs than ups over those years, including less than 3000 in Giants Stadium to see an Open Cup final with Chicago. We lost.

I moved to Florida a year ago, and it is great to be back in the stands to watch Miami play at Lockhart. I used to watch Metro play Fusion back in the day, and I envied the team that got to play in Lockhart. Now I can be in that stadium to see good teams play, up close and personal. Vamos Miami!

Great article, its always good to see the domestic media speak on soccer outside of the realm of the MLS. There is so much of the game being played just below the conscious of the larger public and I hope you continue to shed light on it. I too hope Miami FC last as it will be great for the state to have a derby with the Rowdies next season and into the future.

Great article Simon. Hope to see you at more Miami FC games. Seeing Serna play again at Lockhart brought so many wonderful memories of the Miami Fusion. It truly was a magical night. I hope soccer fans will get hook and come support Miami FC. Let the magic continue at FIU on Friday night.

Great blog Simon!
The crowd at Lockhart on Saturday was amazing and it seemed there were more then the 2100 mentioned!
Lets see what FIU will give us. I hope to see you out there!

Wonderful article, and I couldn't agree more. I was one of the Ultras waving a flag Saturday night, and never have I experienced a more energetic and authentic crowd at a Miami FC game. It really did feel like a crowd 4 or 5 times it's size. Unfortunately I missed out on the Strikers(wasn't born yet) and Fusion(wasn't into soccer then), but at Lockhart Saturday I got a real taste of what pro soccer has been, and what it can be, in South Florida.
