Comments on: Argentina’s World Cup squad falls into place World Soccer views and news Wed, 16 Nov 2016 16:27:51 +0000 hourly 1 By: albiceleste1 Fri, 19 Feb 2010 18:49:37 +0000 “The central midfielders are Javier Mascherano, Mario Bolatti, Veron and Pastore, the wings Jonas Gutierrez, Angel Di Maria and Jesus Datolo.”

Even though he was not called up for the friendly against Germany, there is still a chance that Ever Banega might make Argentina’s WC squad.

Though I like Masche & Bolatti, in my opinion Banega is currently the best central midfielder in Argentine football. Banega is playing superbly in Spain this season.

Banega is a more versatile player than Bolatti. Banega’s passing skills and play making ability are superior to Bolatti’s and Banega can also drop back to defend the central midfield area effectively.

That is highly debatable. Clemente Rodriguez does not belong on the Argentine national team, his current form with Estudiantes is not worthy of a national team callup.

Last night was the latest example, he was awful against Alianza Lima: 010/02/19/estudiantes-alianza-lima-goals  /

Unfortunately, Argentine football has not been able to produce top notch fullbacks in many years but Maradona does have some options in the right-back spot.

It is inexplicable why Maradona has decided to get rid of Zanetti and not call up Zabaleta. Instead he chooses a mediocre player like Clemente Rodriguez.

In that spot, it appears that Maradona will either go with Rodriguez or have one of the center-backs play out of position in the World Cup.

Neither option is good and it will not bode well for Argentina.
