Manchester City appoint Pellegrini as manager

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) – Manchester City have named former Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini as the successor to the sacked Roberto Mancini, the Premier League club said on Friday.

The 59-year-old Chilean, whose appointment had been widely expected for weeks with Pellegrini saying last month he had a verbal agreement, takes over following Mancini’s dismissal on May 13 after City were runners-up in the league and FA Cup.

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) – Manchester City flexed their financial muscle in the transfer market and signalled their intent to reclaim the Premier League title by signing Brazil midfielder Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday.

City, who have yet to appoint a successor to sacked manager Roberto Mancini, did not give any financial details of the deal but British media have widely reported the transfer fee to be about 30 million pounds.

Watford and Palace chase Premier League jackpot

(Reuters) – Two days after Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund fight it out for Europe’s most prestigious club prize at Wembley, Watford and Crystal Palace will take to the same pitch chasing an even more financially lucrative reward.

Monday’s English Championship (second tier) playoff final will determine which team will be promoted to the Premier League, a feat analysts estimate to be worth 120 million pounds.
