Farewell to Favre for a second time

February 11, 2009

New York Jets quarterback Brett Favre has retired from the NFL after 18 record-breaking seasons and one Super Bowl championship.

Favre’s decision comes nearly one year after he retired from the Green Bay Packers. The steely 39-year-old, who won the Super Bowl in the 1996-97 season with the Packers, ultimately reconsidered and returned for a one-year stint with the Jets.

Could there be another U-turn? It looks unlikely this time.

“He knows what the New York Jets are all about,” said Jets CEO Woody Johnson. “He also knows what his own limitations are better than anybody.”

Perhaps a career in Hollywood beckons for one of NFL’s best-known names. He already had a cameo in There’s Something about Mary
