King Kobe leads Lakers to 15th NBA title

June 15, 2009

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant celebrates their NBA Championship win after defeating the Orlando Magic in Game 5 in Orlando

Kobe Bryant had 30 points to lead the LA Lakers to a 99-86 Game Five win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday and a 15th NBA title.

Kobe relinquished the league’s Most Valuable Player award to Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers this year. Does his fourth championship ring prove he has in fact been a more valuable player this season or just that he has better players around him?

In any case, 11-times All Star Bryant did claim one of the few awards he had not previously won, the Finals MVP award.

Having hated Kobe for many years, I have to admit that he stuck to his passion and finally came thru. He battled criticism, legal accusations and other media affairs but he kept his focus and with the help of an incredible supporting crew (and the best coach in the history of basketball) he finally snatched a trophy with his name written in bold… you are Robin no more Mister Batman…

When it’s said and done, it’s the rings on your fingers and the numbers in the books that will tell the story. And what a story it will tell!

Congrats Kobe, welcome to the All-Time-Greats club… they’d been expecting you…
