If the stuff is really pure beef, why are all the labs and "independent" reports necessary to "prove" it??? And if it's really pure beef, why bother with all the processing to get it??? Oh wait, I just remembered - when the public thinks "beef" they think cow meat. But, the industry's convenient (and i think likely contrived) definition of "beef" is, just about any damned thing that comes off of a cow.

That's just dumb, lazy writing. Reporting on a story based on court filings is no story at all. American litigation is not about justice, it's about whatever you can get away with. Lawyers are, sadly, given very wide latitude in how they represent 'facts.' Any journalist or commentator worth his column wouldn't give any credit whatsoever to a complaint by a plaintiff, nor to the answer by the defendant.

The story about pink slime reminds me of how the media crucified toyota with similarly unsubstantiated claims. It seems wildly unfair that in today's hyperactive "scare of the moment" media style a company can be unfairly "tried" by the press without any obligation to make an equally big splash when they are later shown to be wrong. Of course, the first amendment must stand, but there needs to be some accountability, and currently there doesn't seem to be any.

Regarding Beef: you get what you pay for! Any Hamburger thats less than $10 is full of _*&%^&. Its as simple as that. It doesnt matter if they get rid of pink slime - the cost pressure for mass market beef will just replace it as people want cheap beef.

Im not rich - but I like real meat. Thats why we only eat beef twice a month. Better to eat the real thing occasionally than some monstrosity every day.
