But I also think he wanted to test the whistle-blower laws and Obama’s election era statements that whistle-blowers deserved protection. He set a precedent that all others who are concerned about overreaches of authority will conduct themselves.

As far as Russia and China copying his documents… Snowden is not an idiot. He has his rendered his documents (which are all digital) unavailable to even himself to prevent China, Russia or anyone else working him over for them. He’s being very meticulous in selecting what is being put out there and not doing some all-encompassing dump like Manning did.

What I find interesting is how the government is portraying him as some genius hacker who’s electronic tracks they can’t follow. Yet on other occasions they say he didn’t know what he was doing.

Either way the NSA needs to take a better look at their security measures.

The U.S. just really started investigating fraud in that area in the last 5 years. The Obama Admin is not a star in a great many ways, but prior to the effort they kicked off in 2009, there was minimal enforcement. I think another interesting question is why it took so long to start doing something that was an obvious need. Follow the money, and it will lead to Congress.

On target as usual. Thank you, and Reuters

This time you have picked three winners. I’d like to see these stories too.

My comment did not post. Since when does Reuters censor comments before posting?

If I were Snowden and a journalist or two said their condition was outing myself and that wass not my plan, I would have simply found another journalist, or given the info to wikileaks, or emailed it to the inbox of every newspaper I could find. To answer your question, Snowden outed himself to protect a human ideal – the ideal of privacy.
