Comcast or NBC feels as if they make enough money on MTP and first or third deosn’t much matter to them since it is hard to make money on ant of these shows.

Quality is another thing and they certainly do not care. NBC News has always had solid journalists at the helm of MTP going back to Martha Roundtree and Lawrence E. Spivak to Tim Russert and Tom Brokaw. They now have a show biz guy whose interest in anything beyond cable news chit chat is not very apparent. The show now begins–begins—with these silly “roundtables”: nobody is meeting the press. A couple of quick Today Show like mini-interviews (all ending Today Show-like with “I am sorry; we’re all out of time for this segment”)preserve the theoretical basis for the show, but there are no watch ’em squirm out of this one things that Spivak made into the hallmark of the original MTP. David Brinkley, who introduced the long form Sunday interview show, would barf at what this guy has done to it.
