AUDIO – WI Harper’s Leglise on China Risk

September 25, 2006

leglise.jpgThe risk of investing in China may be exaggerated with the possibility of international conflict or major internal turmoil less than some fear, said Claude Leglise, the managing director of venture capital firm WI Harper. Given that, and intense competition for deals in China, the premium that investors can expect to earn compared with U.S. investments is therefore likely to be more like a few percentage points rather than 10 points, he said. ”Is China going to start trading bombs with Taiwan across the Strait? Is North Korea going to play a role? I think there is a significant number of people in China who think those risks are massively exaggerated and therefore overpriced,” Leglise told the Reuters Venture Capital Summit. He said there is internal turmoil in China “but “it seems to be manageable and managed.”
