Audio – To lease or not to lease, that is the question

September 15, 2008

york1.jpgWith apologies to the Bard, that is one of the key questions that U.S. automakers are asking themselves now.

For Chrysler, the answer was no, and Jerry York, an adviser to Tracinda Corp, which has a $1 billion investment in Ford Motor Co, thinks they were wrong.

York, who has been in the auto industry since the 1960s, speaks with some authority on the matter, as he has seen some good, some great and some downright awful decisions made in his industry in the past four decades.

Without leasing, York sees U.S. consumers going to the foreign automakers who are offering leases to their customers.

York was one of the featured speakers at this year’s Reuters Autos Summit, which runs through Thursday in Detroit.
