On field of dreams, Clinton mangles metaphor

April 26, 2008

hillary-in-south-bend.jpgSOUTH BEND, INDIANA – Sports are a natural metaphor for political campaigns — both have winners and losers, competing teams, and a final score.

In basketball-mad Indiana, Democrat Hillary Clinton held a rally on Indiana University’s basketball court in Bloomington on Friday, while rival Barack Obama played a three-on-three game with supporters later that night.

On Saturday, Clinton headed to South Bend, best known as home to Notre Dame‘s Fighting Irish football team. Former president Ronald Reagan, a Republican, laid claim to that franchise long ago, thanks to his portrayal of Irish football player George “the Gipper” Gipp in the 1940 film “Knute Rockne: All American.”

Clinton opted to hold a rally at the city’s minor-league baseball park, where she received a jersey of the home Silver Hawks, a Single A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“We know you’re going to knock it out of the park,” former Gov. Joe Kernan told Clinton in his opening remarks.

When Clinton came to bat, here’s what she said:

“We’re going to hit some of those balls out this stadium and out of our country stadium because we’re going to go to bat and fix America together.”

“We are going to go fight for America, we’re going to round the bases, we’re going to score a lot of runs and we’re going to feel really good about the home team, the American team, the team we’re all a part of,” she continued.

A rocky first inning. But Clinton handled the next eight innings of her stump speech smoothly, promising to spur economic development, end the Iraq war and implement a universal health care system, and challenging Obama to an unmoderated debate.

So how should the New York senator’s box score read? 4 for 5 with one strikeout? Or should that be marked an error?

Unfortunately, the final score in this game won’t be known until May 6, when Hoosiers head to the polls.

Hillary keeps saying that Obama is just a good speaker. Well…isn’t that a good thing? They are both out trying to get votes and talk to people, they have for months now. Both Hillary and Obama are talk talk talk, what sets them apart in my mind is deportment. Hillary’s campaign literally had to throw conspiracies out into the media to stop Obama’s momentum. It worked I guess…but it isn’t very classy…….I’d take Obama over Hillary……..

What happened to the talks and actions? Nobody cares about real issues anymore? I guess it is 7th inning stretch time. Only two more inning remaining.

Is Hillary “sniper-fire” Clinton no longer interested words or actions anymore?

Is it because because when she speaks she actually misspeaks, aka lies? And she no longer interested in actions because her campaign chief actually lobbied to get Columbian Free Trade Agreement passed in US government?

Baseball…. that reminds me of the current incompetant president. With her “annihilate Iran” talk and now baseball interest, may be Hillary is trying to tell us that she is another Bush in disguise. She openly said she will take money from lobbyists. You connect the dots.

Go Hillary. You can do it. People are starting to find out what Obama is about. He dosn’t care about American jobs. He let this be known in Ohio when he told the people one thing and Canada another. He has coppied your platform and claimed it for his own. Trouble is now people are beginning to see that he dosn’t have the solutions, just your ideas. Now Watch him he will play the race card if you take the lead. He is such a cry baby. And then claims he is running a clean campaign. Bull! he just lets his staff do the dirty work. He’s not man enough and fight you face to face over the issues. I would like to hear him explain who his rich conributers are that match all contributions under one thousand dollars. Or he would’t be raising this kind of money. Who are they Obama? Could they be rich lobyist or N.A.C.P. Oil companys,Opera. Who are they? The American people have a right to know.

I’m proud of you Hillary and Michigan is praying for you. Talk about your green collar plans. I seen some experts on cnn news say that you were right you could offer five millon and more jobs with your plan. And thats what this country needs Jobs and more jobs. Be careful that Obama dosn’t steal this idea like he did your other ones.

Why is Clinton acting as if she can still win ?It’s over her and she’s been acting increasingly desperate. It’s uncomfortable to watch the once “inevitable” candidate stoop so low. If I weren’t so angry with her, I’d feel sorry for her.

The media is complicit by enabling her in her silly fantasy. Game over, Hillary. Go home.

This is painful. We should have a mercy rule.

I think the nomination in Indiana between Hillary and Obama should be decided on the basketball court! I am sick and tired of debates.

Hilary Clinton is a dangerous force which once again seeks to derail what is ultimately a better political future for the US people.

Bush cheated a better man, and now the Clinton clan seeks to cheat another better man so that the US people are once again saddled with the worst possible choice.

If Clinton gets in then the US is doomed to a future of ignomy, shame and shattered dreams.

The end could well be nigh – the reputation of the US could be heading for near-annihilation!

Race is definitely a factor in the election. Otherwise, one cannot explain why there can be a 9 to 1 ratio in favor of Obama among the black population. Don’t overlook this factor.

If you are a democrat, and want the Presidency, then it is time to come together and make a clear frontrunner. Clinton fatigue is abundantly clear. The “distractions” have become Clinton’s entire campaign as her campaign managers are fired and owed millions of dollars. She can’t pay her bills or manage an effective campaign when she had every advantage to begin with. Who really wants this woman running the country and fixing our economy. She recklessly threatened to invade Iran and “obliterate them” at a time we are in two wars, spread thin and most of the world knows we can’t invade if we wanted to.

I am not impressed. She felt she was “the chosen one” and had no plan after Super Tuesday and she calls Obama elitist.

Obama has done the unthinkable. He has grown a grassroots operation coming from being an unknown in a few months time. He has raised more money than the history of either party and he has engaged voters and single handedly brought more new people into the process. That shows leadership and management skills.

If Clinton wants to run on her experience in this election, then McCain wins. The fact is, it’s not about experience. No one can claim experience to be President. It’s about judgement and character.

Obama has run a decent campaign. There are real issues watch CNN. Oil is record levels, gas going to $4 gal, recession, dollar sinking, world food riots, 2000 scientists have now signed on to the global warming report internationally because the effects are more rapid than originally thought. We are in two wars, Syria and No Korea now reported engaged in nuclear proliferation and the current administration didn’t even notify the Senate Intelligence Committee. The issues are abundant. Don’t be distracted. We need to rap this up now and win. Vote Obama.

Well, at least she didn’t say she would “obliterate” anyone, a major improvement.

Obama needs a double so she can be sent back to the minors.

If Barack Obama is only where’s he is at because he’s black, and the black/young vote got him there, than thank god for the black and young voters. If America was blind they would listen.

Sorry Hill. No new debates. You’re pretty desperate for free air time because your fund raising ability doesn’t make you competitive, but it isn’t Obama’s job to bail you out. You tried this debate bating stuff in Wisconsin too. He just kept talking to the people and whupped ya. Ya’ll might want to check out the hot new move on You Tube called Bosnia and Back. Here’s a link to make it easy.

If Michigan and Florida dont count, shouldn’t the winning number of delegates be 4050 -Michigan and Florida divide by 2??????? Or I’m I deluded??

If you want to know what’ll happen after an election, follow the money. Hillary’s (what little is left) comes from the fat cats; Obama’s comes from 1,500,000 little guys. Guess who’s going to serve whom after the election.
And by the way, why didn’t Hillary appear in the CA court as she was supposed to in the Paul vs Clinton case?
