Tales from the Trail

Obama taking family to Yellowstone, Grand Canyon

August 7, 2009

USA-OBAMA/So here we are in August, time for a little summer vacation. President Barack Obama is taking Michelle and the kids out on a Western swing to see some of America’s most famous national parks.

Next Friday, August 14, they will fly out to Bozeman, Montana and the next day will visit Yellowstone National Park, home of the Old Faithful geyser, in nearby Wyoming. Later that day they head to Grand Junction, Colorado.

On August 16, it’s on to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. They end up in Phoenix for the president to address the convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Weather prediction: It’ll be hot in Phoenix. They’re back in Washington on August 17. ENVIRONMENT GRIZZLIES

So it’s a fairly quick trip — not one of those where you load up the station wagon and drive for several thousand miles.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs imparted all this information at Friday’s briefing, and he said the visit was taking place during a “fee-free” weekend at national parks and that Obama hopes to inspire people to go visit the parks.

The Obamas’ real vacation is later in August, when they spend a week on the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard.

Here is a diligent, caring, capable President who is taking time off with his family for a short richly deserved vacation. Nobody in their right minds should grudge him that. He has had a gruelling six months trying to get America back on track on virtually every front. With national and international problems on his shoulders, President Obama shows a spring in his step as he tackles national and international issues. America’s standing in the world has risen significantly.

So far he has spent more time vactioning with his family than Bush did in his first 6 months in office. I am tired of the hypocrisy and the “crisis” mode he has created. He should leave things alone and let the free market correct itself. Franklin Roosevelt kept this country in a depression for 10 years while Europe was out of their in 2 years. All because he kept yelling “crisis”. We are still paying for his mistakes today. Let’s not make the same mistake now.

Obama is obsessed with proving he’s a better family man than any other man in the country. Meanhwile, one of his top health care advisors, known as E-Z Kill Emanuel, is writing about how anyone who is incable of being what he terms a “productive citizen” should not get medical treatment. In his most recent piece, in the January 31 issue of Lancet, he wrote that really, the only people who should get medical care are those between the ages of 15 and 40. Does anyone smell “Nazi” here?

Oh my! Clorgon, it sounds as though you have some masculinity issues of your own if you truely are concerned that Barack is attempting to out-Dad you! It’s sad, really. Stop complaining that he is taking a much deserved vacation as I’m sure you’ve taken plenty of your own. The Obama’s are traveling to the American West, not Europe, not Australia, so be thankful he’s spending his time and money in a country that he’s trying to put back on track instead of jetsetting accross the continent like so many of our previous fiscal conservative political leaders have for their family vacations. I really don’t understand people who find Obama’s vacation plans to be frsutrating to their everyday lives…get over yourself and shut up!

Hey, I detest health insurance companies as much as anybody. But Obamacare makes things worse, just like his stimulus and the rest. The economy was going to recover anyway as in all business cycles, but this deficit spending will prolong the recession and enslave our future generations.

When did Nancy Pelosi start accusing everyday Americans of being Nazis? Sarah Palin has twice the smarts as Pelosi. Obama has done more damage to this country than anyone else has in its history.

Caring and diligent? Well deserved vacation? Give me a break!

He should stay in Washington and READ the Deathcare bill he is trying to shove down our throats, besides how many hard earned working American’s vacation days is he completely disrupting?

WOW!! Another vacation? Geez! Every month there is a vacation or a mini vacation for him and his wife and or kids! This is all a party for him, so it seems.

Why is it that he is NOT leading the country by giving us specifics of what he wants to see clearly written in the Healthcare bill? I would like to see what he DOESNT want to see in the bill too. Instead, he is willing to sign anything in to law and make his case that he got real health care reform!

He is so genuine and such a strong leader. haha hehe! Yeah, go on a vacation! Geez!

TC, if Obama walked on water, you would complain that he couldn’t swim. Why don’t you give your constant Obama-bashing a rest? You often comment that people need to get out of the Republican/Democrat paradigm, but I have yet to hear you write anything positive about any Democrat, and anything but praise for anything Republican.

both me and TC know that obama cannot work on water, how about your self? If he can,can he come and do so at some of the national parks here in CA, we can run a fund raiser to try to get some money to make sure they stay open!

brian lee. As you can see, there are a lot of negative posts about the president and his vacations. However, some people focus on just mine and that is flattering.

The issues going on in our country now are not about republicans and democrats. If you notice the democratic party is fighting amongst themselves. The republicans really aren’t doing anything at all. They know the democrats don’t need one republican vote to pass any legislation. So it is a false argument to blame the republicans for this all the bad legislation floating around Washington these days.

What is interesting to note though (since some people want to focus on the democrat and republican issue), is that George Bush had a higher approval rating (56%) than Obama (50%) at this point in their first terms.

What is even more interesting is that the media and any liberal organization relentlessly attacked Bush from the moment he was sworn into office….and he still had a 56% approval rating.

Obama, on the otherhand, has a 50% approval rating with a media who will not criticize him and asks softball questions. Can you imagine what his approval rating would be if he got the same treatment from the media as Bush did? He would be in the tank gasping for air.

Also, it was just reported that of the last 10 presidents, Obama is in 7th place at this point of their first terms.

He needs a vacation because everything is falling apart around him.

This is sad. People cannot read a simple story. Our President is not going on a vacation. That does not happen until he and his family go to one of the islands off the coast of Massachusetts in a couple of weeks. This trip is to promote our national parks system and is probably for political reasons also. The so-called vacations most of you people are screeching about were not vacations. They were diplomatic missions (clean up Bush’s cowboy mess) and trips to the financial summits like the one that will be held in Pennsylvania next month. I don’t know whether most of you people are just ignorant or just partisan.

twoman. Then the first sentence in the article shouldn’t say this:

“So here we are in August, time for a little summer vacation. President Barack Obama is taking Michelle and the kids out on a Western swing to see some of America’s most famous national parks.”

He is using the power of the presidency to bring his family on a vacation. I saw you slam Bush, so your partisanship is very apparent, but if Bush would have done the same thing he would have been pounded relentlessly for doing so. Unbelievable what this guy gets away with….

I would like to say one thing.

Bush took three weeks off when he was first elected as president.

Obama started working right away and has not stopped.

If you actually read the article you will she that in the middle of his “vacation” he is addressing the convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars. That doesn’t sound like any family vacation I have had.

He deserves a vacation and still doesn’t get one until the end of the month.

So Obama and his family are visiting the Grand Canyon of a “fee free” day. Can’t they afford the entry fee? I work for a nearby Chamber of Commerce, and we have been asked to inform visitors to expect long waits and the entrance and to expect closures in some areas due to the president’s visit. This is encouraging people to visit our national parks…. by denying them convenient access on one of the few “fee free days of the year?

THIS COUNTRY IS IN CRISIS! Raise your hand if you had to give up a family vacation this year because of the economy! This dude is no president, he’s a wanna be celebrity.

He didn’t work as a senator because he did nothing but campaign to be a president. Now, since he doesn’t know how the govenment works, he doesn’t even know how to do his job.

First off, I voted for Obama. I still think may of the ideas he brought forth during the campaign are good. Having said that, does anyone else think he needs to spend a little more time being the president a a little less being “Dad”. It seems everytime we turn around he’s on a family outing or date with his wife. One of the sacrifices you are supposed to make when choosing to become president is the loose of some of you personal life.

I’m amused by the “diligent, caring….president” addition on this web site…what an interesting comment. IF George Bush (who should be blamed for absolutely everything untoward that’s occurred in the entire world for the past NINE years!!!) had been involved in same, the liberal media would have been aghast. Have you heard about the fiasco in Belgrade, MT on the Yellowstone trip?

This from my cousin who attended the so-called town meeting in Montana:
From a person who attended the presidential visit.

Hello All,

By now you have probably heard that President Obama came to Montana last Friday. However, there are many things that the major news has not covered. I feel that since my husband and I live here and we were at the airport on Friday I should share some facts with you.

On Wednesday, August 5th, it was announced locally that the President would be coming here. There are many groups here that are against his healthcare and huge spending so those groups began talking and deciding on what they were going to do. The White House would not release ANY details other than the date.

On about Tuesday my husband found out that they would be holding the “Town Hall” at the airport. (This is only because he knows EVERYONE at the airport) Our airport is actually located outside of Belgrade (tiny town) in a very remote location. Nothing is around there. They chose to use a hangar that is the most remotely located hangar. You could not pick a more remote location, and you cannot get to it easily. It is totally secluded from the public.

FYI: We have many areas in Belgrade and Bozeman which could have held a large amount of folks with sufficient parking. (gymnasiums/auditoriums). All of which have chairs and tables, and would not have to be SHIPPED IN!! $$$$$

During the week, cargo by the TONS was being shipped in constantly. Airport employees could not believe how it just kept coming. Though it was our President coming several expressed how excessive it was, especially during a recession. $$$$$

Late Tuesday/early Wednesday the 12th, they said that tickets would be handed out on Thursday AM at two locations and the president would be arriving around 12:30 Friday.

Thursday morning about 600 tickets were passed out. However, 1500 were printed at a local printing shop per White House request. Hmmmm……900 tickets just DISAPPEARED. This same morning someone called into the radio from the local UPS branch and said that THOUSANDS of Dollars of Lobster were shipped in for Obama. Montana has some of the best beef in the nation!!! And it would
have been really wonderful to help out the local economy. Anyone heard of the Recession?? Just think…with all of the traveling the White House is doing. $$$$$ One can only imagine what else we are paying for.

On Friday my husband and I got out to the airport about 10:45 AM. The groups that wanted to protest Obama’s spending and healthcare had gotten a permit to protest and that area was roped off. But that was not to be. A large bus carrying SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members drove up onto the area (illegal)and unloaded right there. It was quite a commotion and there were specifically 2 SEIU men trying to make trouble and start a fight. Police did get involved and arrested the one man but
they said they did not have the manpower to remove the SEIU crowd. The SEIU crowd was very organized and young. About 99% were under the age of 30 and they were not locals! They had bullhorns and PROFESSIONALLY made signs. Some even wore preprinted T-shirts. Oh, and Planned Parenthood folks were with them…..professing abortion rights with their T-shirts and preprinted signs. (BTW, all these folks did have a permit to protest in ANOTHER area)

Those against healthcare/spending moved away from the SEIU crowd to avoid confrontation. They were orderly and respectful. Even though SEIU kept coming over and walking through, continuing to be very intimidating and aggressive at the direction of the one SEIU man.

So we had Montana folks from ALL OVER the state with their homemade signs and their DOGS with homemade signs. We had cowboys, nurses, doctors you name it. There was even a guy from Texas who had been driving through. He found out about the occasion, went to the store, made a sign, and came to protest.

If you are wondering about the press…..Well, all of the major networks were over by that remote hangar I mentioned. They were conveniently parked on the other side of the buildings FAR away. None of these crowds were even visible to them. I have my doubts that they knew anything about the crowds.

We did have some local news media around us from this state and a near-by state. Speaking of the local media…they were invited. However, all questions were to be turned into the White House in advance of the event. Wouldn’t want anyone to have to think off the top of their head.

It was very obvious that it was meant to be totally controlled by the White House. Everything was orchestrated down to the last detail to make it appear that Montana is just crazy for Obama and government healthcare. Even those people that talked about their insurance woes……..the White House called our local HRDC (Human Resource and Development Committee) and asked for names. Then the White House asked those folks to come. Smoke and mirrors…EVERYTHING was staged!

I am very dismayed about what I learned about our current White House. The amount of control and manipulation was unbelievable. I felt I was not living in the United States of America, more like the USSR!! I was physically nauseous. My husband and I have been around when Presidents or Heads of State visit. It has NEVER been like this. I am truly very frightened for our country. America needs your prayers and your voices. If you care about our country please get involved. Know the issues. And let Congress
hear your voices again and again!! If they are willing to put forth so much effort to BULLY a small town one can only imagine what is going on in Washington DC.
