Near end of article:

– “Obama did get in a dig about …Fox …which aired the season premiere of a popular dance reality show instead of his speech to Congress.”

– ‘He said he would reiterate aspects of his plan, “Just in case folks weren’t tuned in last night, if they were watching, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’….”

The first photo credits are for the black man holding down the white woman. After that, they credit the photo at the top of the article.

Again, what were they thinking? I can’t imagine there being nothing to the choice of photo to represent a paragraph that had nothing to do with the article.

– “Photo credits: Reuters/Fed Prouser (”So You Think You Can Dance” contestants Ade Obayomi and Melissa Sandvig perform)”

– “Reuters/Jim Young (Obama hugs Nate Guyton as Linda Grual applauds after the president’s remarks to nurses)”

Many don’t.

I am the mother of an only child, Ryan, who died from of meningococcal meningitis & founder/executive director of Meningitis Angels. www.meningitis-angels.org.

Knowing the early signs of meningitis & blood poisoning can improve detection of the disease & save lives? They are Unrelenting fever, leg pain, cold hands & feet & abnormal skin color can develop within (12 hours) after infection long before the more classic signs of the illness such as a rash, headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light and impaired consciences.

Children in daycare & those of American Indian, Eskimo & African American heritage are at a higher risk for pneumococcal & HIB.

Please see your health care provider about immunization.

She thought Canadian style health care was what was in the pipeline and was concerned with rationing. Told her my story of the year it took to diagnose my hip problems and then the 3 month delay getting in for a consult with a surgeon. She was convinced by my story and patient debunking of the barage of lies about the intent and scope of reform and seems to have shifted to the pro reform camp. Nurses, onesies and twosies opose while hundreds are with us. There are many components of complex law covering diverse and equally complex transactions people expect a lot of and frequently are pencil f—ed out of at the business end of the health insurance industry. Reform is comprehensive and reasonably complete. If repugs really want credit for fixing this mess of s–t they have had more time than anyone trying could need. It is time now. Resistance is delay, and I wont forget who is responsible for disinformation and who is a liar and who is a blocker and who is so vain that they think things should wait until they can put thier name on it…
One nurse oposes for hundreds who support it . to think a union is speaking for anyone on this is absurd.
Grow a brain, and then try to get a set.

I am one of many without healthcare. Growing up in Mississippi in the 50’s and 60’s I know racism when I hear it. It is so obvious. It doesn’t matter what he says because all those opposer see is that he is black or not their party. I do not belong to any party. I vote for the person by what they do and say. He is a good, honest man. It kills me that republicans think that I would listen to anyting they say considering that their ideas is why our country is in the mess it’s in today. Talking about the pot calling the kettle black.

The majority of malpractice is events (lapses in care) are disturbing but do not necessarily lead to adverse outcomes: A surgeon starts to prepare a leg for amputation but is stopped by a nurse for example. In other cases, a patient is overdosed because the drug that knocks them out (prior to the operation) is in the same type and color bottle as the drug that is to revive them. The failure occurs when the patient gets the knockout drug twice.
In both these instances procedural guidelines would have helped – in the same way airlines have pre-flight checks, better hospitals have pre-op checks, where a pre-op team goes over documentation prior to surgery to ensure the right limb is treated, down to the ludicrous (it would seem to the layman) extent of painting the afflicted limb with ‘cut this one!’.

The problem however, is that there is not an NTSB or FAA for the medical industry. One that A. Conducts a no-fault investigation into a medical procedural failure and can require procedural changes, and B. Can legally disseminate these safety notices to ALL hospitals.

There has to be a ‘no fault’ rule to encourage doctors and all staff to self-report and to clearly separate willful or careless negligence from the type of error caused by overwork, stress or mistake engendered by systemic tendencies.

Meanwhile the idiots above run rampant. Thanks “Brian lee/Frank!” two separate users, same IP address..lol

They are the ones who are invested in outcomes for patients. The vast majority of shareholders in private hospitals, pharmaceutical corporations, and health insurance companies oppose it. They are invested in outcomes on their quarterly statements.

My wife is a nurse she does not support any of it incidentally she is not a member of the union, although she says that every nurse will eventually have join to be able to work.

He obviously thinks that Americans should drop everything they’re doing to look at him and listen to more mumbo jumbo on TV. At least Fox knows the value of an audience. And no, I didn’t watch anything last night.
