Next round in Covergirl Palin photo flap…

November 18, 2009

The flap over Sarah Palin’s photo on the cover of Newsweek magazine is turning into a fray…

To use the words of TV detective Monk, “here’s what happened…” USA/

Newsweek put Palin on the cover ahead of the release of her book “Going Rogue.”

Usually magazine covers before a big book launch are prized, but the former Republican vice presidential candidate didn’t quite see it that way.

Palin criticized Newsweek for using the photo of her in athletic gear which was taken for an interview with a running magazine, and wrote on her Facebook page: “The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now.”

Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham responded with a statement of his own on the magazine’s Web site: “We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do,” he said. “We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard.”

Now Runner’s World has decided to join in and put an Editor’s Note on its Web site saying the Newsweek cover photo of Palin was shot exclusively for the August issue of the running magazine and those photos are “still under a one-year embargo.”

So we called Newsweek and spokesman Frank De Maria said: “We purchased the photo from an agency and we were not aware of any issues with it.”

A year since the election, Palin still manages to stir controversy — and this wasn’t even about her book…

Michigan is a smart place for her to start. That’s the one place that knows how bad Obama has screwed things up. Look at what Cash4Clunkers has done. Obama’s created a bubble of financed cars that is going to pop and cause an even larger surge in repossessions (see http://www.repofinder.com). It’s a ticking time-bomb.

Mike, I wonder if you have tried to purchase a car at sometime in the last year. I did, and I can tell you that the bank wouldn’t make loans to you unless you had a six figure salary and held 5x the borrowed amount in escrow. There won’t be many repos this time around.

Let’s face facts; Palin IS gorgeous, a large segment of the U.S. population cares more about looks than substance, and she is guilty on both counts. This media fueled frenzy (“She’s getting off her bus, now she’s waving, oops, she has some toilet paper on her shoe”) is ridiculous. I think the best description of Caribou Barbie would be “the lights are on, but nobody’s home”……Can’t we move on to someone who is a lot more qualified to run for public office? I am of course referring to Carrie Prejean……

A small fine of on billion dollars for using copyrighted, unapproved photo would smugly sort out the controversy (and Newsweek at the same time). Just a thought…

I applaud Newsweek for using that photo. ANYTHING that shows her as flash with no substance, is an accurate reflection of Sarah Palin. Her attachment to the republican party can only lower it’s chances to regain control, which is fine with me.

Mike is suffering from amnesia…GOP strain. The recession began under Bush and the Bush admin made such a mess of the economy that it will take more than one year for the Obama admin to repair the damage.

Palin is crying sexist? When a woman gives a speech and licks her lips, winks, wets her lips like a Penthouse model, then cries sexist, uses that sexist to get some attention. Palin wasn’t condemning the photo folks, she was condemning the article.

Sara Palin- You have an excellent personality and your smile is enough to alter the surrounding. The weak point in you is the communication gap ie. your body language and the words you express does not synchronise to a certain extend. If you can trust these words, you can one day be a step ahead. By the way USA is a free nation and women plays a huge role.Wishing you all the best for the rogue weather ahead.

She has unbalanced hipocracy.

If you disparage women and liberation, then how can you run for something except the border, then write a book you can’t fully read, and co-opt the term from the enemy you have ridiculed as a traditionalist while behaving like an overripe fashion plate or’derve?

You can’t.

BOBBY

palin is the queen of ditz!

there is no way she could ever stand up to the pressure of a presidential campaign.

why are we wasting our time with this?
don’t we have anything better to do than laugh at this dumb dumb woman??

oh well…we’ll see…

Maria, the front page photo of Palin on newsweek is good to focus the different points of view of the American public.Letterman is making snide remarks about her again and he is that far out of touch, like most of the liberal supporters, that he thinks that he represent the vast majority of American opinion.A lot of independents voted for Obama because his personal appeal, but they are by definition center right. So the misconception that most Americans have liberal progressive tendencies is wrong, in fact it is estimated that as little as 20% of the total voting public have these views. So malicious attacks on Palin is in fact making people aware in small town America that her values are nearer their position than some progressive from San Francisco, that is why she is getting a lot more support than liberals can understand. This is going to play out significantly when the newness of Obama appeal wears out because liberal policies cannot do it on their own.

“… and the Bush admin made such a mess of the economy”
Oh Bob? Did Bush drive the price of a barrel of oil to triple it’s value during the summer before a Presidential election? I think not.
And Palin looks good on the cover of Newsweek. The pic is flattering and politically helpful. Since the article is garbage and she said it’s garbage, she hasn’t lied to me, yet.

Sarah – one hellova better choice and a hellofa lot more fun than that ol boot Pepsi Pelosi, and the ol porker O- Praaaaa. Go Sarah! Time we stirred that pot of pork fat in D.C. and started looking after the people.

What’s the problem?
The whole premise of her book and her campaign (for whatever purposes)is “Going Rogue”. Newsweek in selecting that photograph made a near perfect choice to portray a politician in a non-traditional way. Isn’t that going rogue?
Portraying her in a business suit or a plain old head shot would be so traditional and expected and most likely would have led to complaints about them trying to show her as being mainstream instead of “rogue” like she calls herself.
Sometimes you just can’t please everyone.
In retrospect, though, over time I think most people will see it as the right choice.

Choi, you are right! Ms. “Bridge to Nowhere” should know all about stirring the pork fat.

I used to be a fan of Palin and McCain…but I don’t understand why so many people hate her? If anyone deserves scorn and ridicule it is Levi Johnston. He got a girl pregnant and they were not even married. Now I know we live in a time where liberals are preaching free love and free sex to anything that moves…but you guys have to admit that Levi’s “sexual” contact with Bristol’s younger sister is sick…even for liberal standards. I’m a big fan of the Governor of California and Minnesota and South Carolina…Not really sure who will represent the Democrats after Obama bows out of the 2012 race….Will Bill or Hilary be interested? I hear that John Kerry wants another shot…after all his daughter Alexandra got busted for DUI. Not a Kerry fan, but I love any woman who has the guts to wear a sheer blouse on the red carpet.
