They have staked their future on blocking the agenda of the elected administration and tied themselves to the insurance and financial industries over the interests of the American public. So far, they have lost every legislative confrontation with the majority, and the defeat they have just been dealt in the healthcare fight is historic on many levels. Negative messaging can only go so far in an improving economic environment. Eventually, people realize that one side is putting their political goals above the goals of the nation as a whole.

I have heard that Republicans are saving other provisions to block passage in the future as well. They are going to make Democrats pay a high price for using reconciliation. This could theoretically drag out for weeks, if not months. And the process is going to draw the ire of the House Democrats, who didn’t trust the Senate in the first place.

I agree about your analysis regarding the progressives putting themselves above the American people.

It is sad to see that the political party is to be the sole consideration when voting on issues. There is one saying that I wish the GOP would adhere to; lead, follow or get out of the way. They seem to be incapable of the first two so it is time for them to just go away.
