Morning after Twitter battle: #ThankYouBernie versus #ImWithHer

June 8, 2016

Even in the twilight of his campaign, Bernie Sanders has found a way to impact social media.

#ThankYouBernie was the top-trending hashtag on Twitter in the U.S. Wednesday morning, after Democrat Hillary Clinton celebrated her triumph Tuesday night as the first woman to lead a major party in a race for the White House. Supporters of Bernie Sanders rallied around the hashtag to praise the candidate:

Sanders regularly outpaced Clinton on social media throughout the campaign, employing a winning approach that resonated with millennial voters. That’s not to say Clinton isn’t getting any social love. Not to be outdone, Clinton supporters sent the #ImWithHer hashtag trending later the same morning:

The phrase “Hillary Clinton Made History” was also trending on Twitter.

Meanwhile, PredictIt, an online market for placing bets on U.S. and world politics, showed the probability of Clinton winning the U.S. presidential election at 65 percent Wednesday morning. Donald Trump’s probability was at 34 percent.
