Rick Perry lags in home state of Texas

Tuesday only got worse for Texas Governor Rick Perry whose comments about Turkey in a debate last night got him lambasted by foreign policy experts, the Turkish press, and the Turkish government in Ankara.

Perry, the longest serving governor in Texas history, polled only third in a survey of his fellow Longhorn Republicans, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Less than a fifth of those polled by the Democratic polling firm, Public Policy Polling said they would choose Perry over his rivals. He lagged frontrunner Mitt Romney  as well as former Speaker of the House Gingrich.

Romney polled at 24 percent and Gingrich at 23 percent, compared to Perry’s 18 percent.

Perry’s conservative credentials once endeared him to Republicans looking for a candidate other than Romney, suspected of moderate leanings. He shot to the top in August when he first entered the race but fell back after consistently fumbling debates and interviews.

“Republicans aren’t simply looking at which of these candidates most ideologically is appealing to them. They’re really focused on who has the political skill set that they think will be required to beat Obama,” said Thomas Hollihan, an expert in political campaigns at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School School for Communication and Journalism. “Perry’s performance in the debate suggested that he just wasn’t a very capable candidate. That probably more than anything else drove his support down.”

Perry’s national favorability rating is 7.0 percent, according to RealClearPolitics.com.

Barack Obama, pool shark??

Photo

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – We’ve seen him play basketball, he has been teased mercilessly about his dismal bowling skills and he even pretended to take part in a 400-meter hurdles race at a track meet last week. But pool?

Barack Obama loves it. And he decided to spend part of a 6-hour campaign stop in West Virginia — just one day before the primary election there — playing pool.

“The sign of a misspent youth,” Obama joked as he walked around and eyed the table in the smoky Schultzie’s Billiards in South Charleston.

“Obviously I wasn’t doing wholesome things like bowling,” Obama added to laughter, referring to a horrible showing in the bowling alley during a stop in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago.

The days of his youth came back quickly in the game against against Paul Scott, a local army veteran of the Iraq war. From the opening break, Obama sank several good shots — drawing some shouts of ‘whoa’ from the steadily growing crowd.

“Oh, it worked,” he said after he made one particularly tricky shot that sunk a ball into the opposite corner pocket. He also hammed it up for the crowd of photographers: contorting himself as he played with the idea of a behind-the-back shot.

The men played a gentleman’s game of pool, continuing on even though Obama sank the 8-ball early on. ”That’s what you’re supposed to do with a senator,” he said to his opponent as they kept playing.

COMMENT

ohh boo hoo.
I don’t want to hear I’m not racist.
Or I’m not feminist, or I’m not a womanizer, or I don’t think.

Check out the facts for a second. Everyone’s sooo compassionate towards Hillary Clinton. Remind me what happens when her pathological streak gets the best of her in the middle of a war? I can see Hillary now, having locked herself in the oval office crying and saying she doesn’t know what to do. Yes this is a hyperbole, but you can understand this. There are plenty of women who wouldn’t have this problem. Hillary just isn’t that woman.

Obama on the other hand, has sort of…gotten his ass on his shoulders for “beating the Shoe-in” as some of you put it. He’s the new guy, Let’s not forget he can get an old guy to run with him…sayyy John Edwards? or Kerry? or well anyone that might just back him enough to make it look like he knows what he’s talking about.

I don’t want another Kennedy with all the best intentions but dismissed early from office for all of the worst reasons. That’s where we’re at. Wartime, economic Trough, what’s to stop this from being 1963 allll over again, well plus nuclear warfare. The new generation of college students are a load of liberal humanitarians that have been wanting to fight global warming and hating the war since they were in the 5th grade. What happens when these kids get into the world. We will be to another decade of supreme change! Do we need another summer of ’69?

1960 here I come?

For Romney, no fear of “goofing up” as he joins McCain

Photo

DENVER, Colo. – Mitt Romney , until a few weeks ago Sen. John McCain’s rival in a sometimes bitter contest for the Republican Party presidential nomination, says getting back on the campaign trail with the presumptive nominee is fun.

Romney traded blows with McCain for several weeks earlier this year before dropping out of the race and conceding defeat after losing crucial primary contests on Super Tuesday on Feb. 5.

With past battles behind them, Romney joined the Arizona senator in Salt Lake City, Utah, at a fund-raising event on Thursday, and then flew with him to Denver, Colorado.

“It’s a lot of fun again. It’s nice not to feel any pressure at all, I don’t have to worry about goofing up,” he told reporters on the flight over the Rocky Mountains.

“I can just stand behind the nominee and do my very best to support his campaign.”

Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, and Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah stood beside McCain at the campaign stop in Salt Lake City in a show of party unity.

McCain said he hoped Romney would join him on the campaign trail in the weeks ahead as he sought to energize the party in the run up to the election in November.

COMMENT

This is precious from KY Juris Doctor (an obvious 1L):

If John McCain picks Mitt “I’ll flip flop on any issue” Romney, many of us REAL Conservatives will “flop” out of supporting that monstrosity of a ticket!

Yet, from his own blog…

“Therefore, there will be NO “spinning” of the facts or “slanting” of the news to favor or disfavor any person, party or group. All my comments and opinions will flow naturally and be logically supported.”

Maybe you should have worked a bit harder on studying for that LSAT…or accept the fact you’ll never be nearly as intelligent, or competent as Romney, despite his rather obvious failings.

Cheers.
