"...former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was the visionary leader who tackled the economic and political failings of the Soviet Union’s authoritarian system, with Perestroika and then Glasnost, introducing an era that ended Communist oppression, brought down the Berlin Wall, ended the Cold War and expanded Europe’s community of democracies."

And also led to Russian (most of them of Georgian ethnicity) mafia seizing all "public" assets, and the bankrupting of all pensions.

"For President Putin, who returned to the Kremlin among violent demonstrations last May..."

Nice smear try, Reuters, but not true. There was no "occupy" movement, just a one-afternoon demonstration by a handful of anarchists and crazies like Pussy Riot.

"The Obama-Gorbachev comparison is easily dismissed. Even before the Soviet Union’s disintegration in 1991, it suffered from decades of internal rot and never enjoyed America’s regenerating, democratic dynamism..."

And the US has no rot? 3 million in prison (more than Russia and China combined), money spent on illegal drug use and legal drug use (e.g., prozac) is more than rest of world combined, destruction of black (and soon white) family, crime in even small cities, flash mobs, Obama-fed racism, class hatred, etc.

Not worth reading any more of this blatanbiased, nonfactual opinionated article.

The disturbing developments in the behaviour of Russia and China are reminiscent of the 1930s and the rise of Nazi Germany and pre-war Japan, particularly as the dynamic prevalent in the world at that time appears to be repeating itself

Hitler came to power (1) at a time of financial chaos (2) by manipulating and perverting the democratic process (3) with claims against the territory of other nations (4) at a time of allied military cuts (5) being a man with a hatred of the West for his nation’s humiliation following the end of WW1 (6) and as a paranoid psychopath

These observations can be made of Vlad (the Impaler) Putin

Japan was governed by (1) autocratic, militaristic, technocrats (2) who had a lust for overseas foreign resources (3) and claims against the territory of other nations (4) and who encouraged nationalism and a belief in the inherent superiority of their race (5) and who hated the western ‘white man’ for his perceived arrogance, prejudice and domination of the ‘yellow man’

These observations can be made of China and the Chinese Criminal Party (CCP)

Civilised nations of the world must hope that these similarities are superficial otherwise war between the West and its allies, on the one hand and the rabid ‘Soviet like’ Russian and Chinese axis, on the other, is inevitable

Putin will overplay his hand with the Russian people. History teaches us that the Russians will take so much from an Almighty leader. He has robbed the people and the reason he is back as president is to control the levers of the Kremlin so that he will not be investigated.
