Olympics-Sailing-’Hippy’ superstitions help Patience go for gold

LONDON, July 27 (Reuters) – Before British sailor Luke
Patience begins his Olympic efforts he will go through a bizarre
ritual he hopes will bring him closer to the ocean — and by his
own admission, it is a little bit “hippy”.

Patience, who is competing in the men’s 470 class with
Stuart Bithell, will head out of the athletes’ accommodation in
Weymouth on the eve of his opening sail and play out a
superstition that might leave many of his fellow competitors
baffled.

Olympics-Soccer-BOA chief criticises Blatter for Bale ban talk

LONDON (Reuters) – FIFA president Sepp Blatter was wrong to
suggest Gareth Bale could be banned for playing for his club
Tottenham Hotspur after pulling out of the Olympics, British
Olympic Association chairman Colin Moynihan said.

Welshman Bale withdrew from the Games with a back injury,
but played in a friendly for his club before Britain’s first
match against Senegal on Thursday.

BOA chief criticizes Blatter for Bale ban talk

LONDON (Reuters) – FIFA president Sepp Blatter was wrong to suggest Gareth Bale could be banned for playing for his club Tottenham Hotspur after pulling out of the Olympics, British Olympic Association chairman Colin Moynihan.

Welshman Bale withdrew from the Games with a back injury, but played in a friendly for his club before Britain’s first match against Senegal on Thursday.

Idowu yet to hand over medical records

LONDON (Reuters) – Triple jumper Phillips Idowu has been asked to provide British Olympic officials with his medical records, but has yet to do so, the British Olympic Association told Reuters on Tuesday.

Idowu pulled out of Britain’s final Olympic training camp in Portugal which prompted the BOA to invoke a clause in their team member’s agreement that allows them to ask for information from an athlete that “could impact on their performance at the Games”.
