Djokovic exudes air of invincibility
LONDON (Reuters) – There was an air of invincibility about Novak Djokovic as he cruised into the Wimbledon semi-finals with a second-gear victory over Florian Mayer on Wednesday.
His dominance over the German was reflected in the 6-4 6-1 6-4 scoreline and in the manner of a performance that set up a last-four clash with 16-times grand slam champion Roger Federer.

Heavy-hitting Serena blasts Kvitova off court
LONDON (Reuters) – Petra Kvitova’s hopes of defending her Wimbledon title were shot to pieces in a hail of Centre Court cannon fire from Serena Williams who ousted the defending champion 6-3 7-5 in their quarter-final on Tuesday.
The quality of tennis on show could have graced the final as both players tore into each other with rasping serves and ferocious groundstrokes, but it was the greater power and fight of the four-times winner that won out.

No happy ending in Sharapova’s tale of two cities
LONDON (Reuters) – There is a reason why no woman has won Wimbledon and French Open titles back-to-back for the last 10 years as Maria Sharapova discovered when she became the latest to have tried and failed on Monday.
The world number one was comprehensively beaten in the Wimbledon fourth round by Germany’s Sabine Lisicki 6-4 6-3, three weeks after she shone in the Paris sun to win the French Open title.

LONDON (Reuters) – Maria Sharapova’s hopes of winning a second Wimbledon title were shattered on Monday as the world number one was comprehensively beaten 6-4 6-3 by Germany’s Sabine Lisicki in the fourth round.
The world number 15 had top seed Sharapova on the back foot early in the first set, forcing her into a string of uncharacteristic errors, and did not let up until she had gained revenge for her semi-final defeat by the Russian last year.
