Silent One Mourinho blanks media again

LONDON (Reuters) – The Special One has become the Silent One – Jose Mourinho is never short of an opinion, but for the second time in two days he decided not to share his thoughts.

Having skipped Friday’s pre-match media commitments, the Chelsea coach was also nowhere to be seen after their 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday that left his side five points clear at the top of the table.

Soccer-Advantage Mourinho as Chelsea draw with City

LONDON, Jan 31 (Reuters) – Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester City fought out a 1-1 draw on Saturday that kept the title race narrowly tipped in Jose Mourinho’s favour, without the satisfaction of delivering a potentially knockout blow.

It was perhaps entirely predictable that a stalemate would be the ultimate outcome in a game that City, trailing the leaders by five points, could ill afford to lose and Chelsea showed little ambition to win.

No love lost as managers face title showdown

LONDON (Reuters) – It is hard to imagine two more different characters than Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini, so it is no surprise that the Chelsea manager and his Manchester City counterpart seem to rub each other up the wrong way.

Their simmering rivalry is set for another chapter in Saturday’s top-of-the-table Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge, with a potentially pivotal three points on offer.

Cambridge eye improbable Cup upset against United

Rodgers delights in Liverpool turnaround

By Toby Davis

(Reuters) – It was a world away from the full-throttle entertainment of last-season’s title charge, but Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa was a step towards regaining the club’s identity, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

Saturday’s solid if unspectacular performance against the Premier League’s bluntest strike force came courtesy of a goal in each half from forwards Fabio Borini, recently brought in from the cold, and Rickie Lambert.
