FEDERAL AGRICULTURAL MORTGAGE CORP Farmer Mac appointed Michael Gerber as acting president and chief executive officer, succeeding Henry Edelman, effective immediately. Gerber will continue to serve as chief executive of Farm Credit of Western New York, an association in the Farm Credit System.
EVERCORE PARTNERS INC The U.S. merger advisory firm hired Ray Newton III as senior managing director in its private equity group, Evercore Capital Partners. Newton was previously with Perseus LLC. His appointment is effective Oct. 1 and he will be based in New York.
BANK OF NEW YORK MELLON CORP The financial services company hired Simon Putt, previously with Fidelity International, as director, head of UK Institutional Client Relationship Management. Putt will be based in London.
CAPITAL & REGIONAL PLC The British property fund manager promoted Charles Staveley to group finance director effective Oct. 1. He was deputy finance director with the company earlier.
RESIDENTIAL FINANCE CORP The mortgage lender hired Mindy Hoffman as director of operations closing – post closing and promoted Tim Jolliffe to director of operations – processing and pipeline management. Hoffman was previously with U.S. Bancorp.

EVERCORE PARTNERS INC Boutique investment bank Evercore said Jed Sherwindt has joined the firm’s advisory business as a Senior Managing Director. Sherwindt joins from Citigroup where he led the bank’s software investment banking. At Citigroup, he advised on deals including PeopleSoft in its sale to Oracle, IBM in its acquisition of FileNet and Ask Jeeves in its sale to IAC.
BLACKSTONE GROUP The investment and advisory firm said Jay Light, the dean of Harvard Business School, has joined the company’s board. Light joined the Harvard Business School faculty in 1970 and taught MBA students Investment Management, Capital Markets, Entrepreneurial Finance, and Negotiating Ventures.
LONDON ASIA CHINESE PRIVATE EQUITY FUND LTD The investment company appointed Richard Battey as a nonexecutive director, effective Sept. 17. Battey most recently worked as a consultant of a company involved in the exploration and production of oil and gas in Georgia and Kazakhstan.
KOHLBERG KRAVIS ROBERTS & CO The asset management company said it appointed Makram Azar as managing director and head of Middle East and North Africa. Azar joins the company from Lehman Brothers where he had spent 18 years.
SOCIETE GENERALE CORPORATE & INVESTMENT BANKING The financial services group appointed Marie-Christine Ducholet and Pierre-Yves Bonnet as heads of strategic & acquisition finance within the capital raising and financing division. They succeed Jean-Marc Giraud who will head up the new global capital markets business line.
