Clinton tries to put positive spin on debate performance

As the negative reviews came pouring in for Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton of New York from the debate Tuesday night, her campaign kicked it into overdrive to argue that it was instead just piling on by her rivals since she had a commanding lead in the polls.

Clinton’s campaign put together a series of clips of her competitors for the Democratic nomination saying her name over and over and over again from during the debate last night.  The note attached said that the rivals were switching to negative campaigning away from pledges of positive campaigning.

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who have been running second and third in the nomination hunt respectively, also quickly put up clips of their performances.

The question is: who performed the best and worst?

Obama’s clip is the best.
The fact that the Clinton “response video” has zero to say about her positions speaks volumes. As we all saw in the debate she has finally been smoked out. She has all positions and none. The discussion on illegal immigrants and drivers licenses was most instructive as it was impossible to discern where she stood on the issue. We dont need obscurification we need clear leadership - and we certainly don’t need an intern.

That’s a bit rich from Edwards. Wasn’t he a trial attorney against medical malpractice? That, along with out legal ‘taxation’ has led to crippling cost of insurance for doctors and hospitals that has pretty directly led to increases in healthcare costs.

Wow, Hillary. Whining about being questioned? Do we really want a president afraid of being questioned?

Actually, anybody with a brain knows where Hillary stands on issues. She’s just smart enough to know that if she says it outright, she can’t win. Hillary must try to win by concealing her position. The MSM is more than willing to help.

Piling on? How does that explain Hillary’s inbility to answer a question directly? So it’s their fault she can’t give a straight answer to any issue? Hillary is notorious for dodging tough questions. Answer THIS question Hillary…

How can you expect anyone to vote for a person who has Sandy Burglar on staff as a paid advisor? (Sandy Berger was disbarred for hiding, stealing and destroying documents from the National Archives that would have cast the Clinton’s in a very poor light on Bill’s handling of terrorism during his administration.)

The Clinton/Bush dynasty, real solid combo for the US, pure puppetry.

I strongly believe Clinton’s video clip is the best because it highlights how other candidates are desparate and obssesed with her. Hillary Clinton is the best candidate for president.

How how hard is it to listen to the actual words Hillary said?

Acknowledging and stating that she understands what another leader is doing in an extremely complex situation is not saying two different things.

This answer to the issue of driver’s licenses of illegals should NOT be a one word answer. We’ve had enough of that simpleton thinking with Bush.

Shame on Obama and Edwards for sounding like gross sound-byte politi-speak bullies!

Leader’s must work together and respect each other. Hillary’s response showed her depth of thinking and at least how should would look at tackling the issue which is a “lesser of two-evils” situation. The fact that Obama and Edwards couldn’t grasp that is frightening! Clearly they can’t listen well, think deeply or show respect.

Hillary is the CLEAR “winner” in that school-yard bullying session.

Com’n! Adults. Not every question has a yes or no anwser. You know that. I think the answers Cliton gave during the debate are good analysis of the situations. Once she is the president, she will come with a decision, an educated, well thought out and viable one. People with Obama’s experience will give direct but naive answers. In this debate though, he only copied Clinton’s answers, see the one on immigration. Edwards seemed he did not come for anything else but attacks.

In a previous comment Doug said, “Actually, anybody with a brain knows where Hillary stands on issues.”

Okay, Doug, tell us where Hillary stand on giving drivers licenses to illegals.

I won’t bother watching the clips because I am almost cynical of politicians already. They would like to say things not from their hearts but what the voters would like to hear from them. All posturing. But since the electoral process has to be done to find someone to lead this country, we are forced to really elect a President.

For me I am leaning towards voting Hillary Clinton. Even with the panderings and her deficiencies, I can just look at her track record as Senator and First Lady. At least I am a bit sure of what I am choosing, rather than those who I really don’t have any knowledge about.

The description of Hillary as a calculating person and cold person may best serve her in dealing with the rouges in this world.

Alene,
You’re leaning towards those you really don’t have any knowledge about? Go to their websites and find out about them. Your vote is one of your most precious possessions as an American.
Don’t waste it on Hillary.

Where does Hilary stand on the issue of Driver’s license to illegals? It doesn’t have to be a Yes or No answer but at least, we ought to know if she supports it or not. Doug, can you help since she wasn’t able to say so during the debate.

Yes, it was not her best performance but why did half of the debate center around Hillary? Doesn’t the country have bigger issued to tackle?

These issues are complex and Hillary understands the complexity. I want a leader who is able to consider the many complexities of an issue. This is a GOOD thing and the press and voters should encourage such thinking.

It’s unfortunate that Obama and Edwards are trying to portray this as a bad thing. Haven’t we had enough of simple, black-and-white thinking the last 6 years? Clinton ‘08

The only reason the candidates were going after Hilliary is because she is a great punching bag. She has so many holes you can drive a truck through.

It wasn’t that hard to figure out what Hillary was saying about driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants to anyone willing to really listen. She said the governor’s approach makes sense–he’s proposing 3 types of licenses, one for id purposes only, one as regular Driver’s licenses, and a limited version for immigrants for driving only. (I really was amazed she could remember a proposed law this well.) Then she said the governor was backed into doing something so that drivers would be protected from unidentified and uninsured motorists who were illegal immigrants. (Which Obama later said he supported.) Since Congress hadn’t passed immigration reform, the governors are forced to act in this way. She was not, however, endorsing this action, she just said she understood why he was doing it. That makes sense to me. If I can get it, so can you.

The Republicans want Hillary to win, because she can be beat. They have enough dislike for her that any of their canidates is a better pick than Hillary.
Elitist & Patronizing don’t waste your vote on Hillary.
Hillary may have experience, but it’s probably for the worse. When Bill and Hill where running Arkansas, her vow was to raise the education in the state from 40th. When they left for the white house it was 49th. And isn’t true, Obama has just as much experience as Kennedy or Lincoln? And look at Bush and Cheney. They have experience and all they have caused is skepticism and distrust the government.
