Republican presidential long-shot Rep. Ron Paul may be in the single digits in most opinion polls, but he’s raking in millions of dollars in cash to fund his campaign.
The Texas congressman raised more than $19.5 million during the fourth quarter, his campaign said, the first of the 15 White House hopefuls to reveal their most recent fund-raising just two days before Iowa voters hit the caucuses.
More than half of his haul came during two day-long drives, one in which he raised $4.3 million on Nov. 5 commemorating Guy Fawkes Day, when rebels including Guy Fawkes planned to blow up Britain’s Houses of Parliament in 1605. The second effort was Dec. 16 commemorating the Boston Tea Party and raised just over $6 million.
Paul, an obstetrician-gynecologist, is the only Republican who has condemned the Iraq war and has built a strong Internet following, in part because of his libertarian views.
“Only Dr. Paul has the ability to inspire Americans to contribute and take action that is necessary if Republicans want to defeat the Democrats in November,” said campaign chairman Kent Snyder.
The campaign said he had more than 130,000 donors, of which 107,000 were new contributors.

He’s only a “long-shot” because you (the media) keep saying he is. Start saying he’s a “front runner” and he will be.
- Posted by CNNI guess what the people should be asking is:
Why is it that the media doesn’t report on the huge grassroot’s movement that is going on all over the country? Why is it that Ron Paul isn’t polling higher?
Well for one thing, Polls are “likely republican voters” but a large percentage of Paul’s support comes from Independents and even Democrats like him. Based on this, you could probably safely double his poll numbers.

Thank GOD and freedom for the internet. Sadly other than purchased medias ads, RON PAUL has mostly been ignored intentionally by the medias. Just like in a 2 hr debate max 5 minutes is Ron Pauls time.
FOX FAUX is refusing him platform on forum held in New Hampshire 2 days before vote.
It was FOX FAUX that held the infamous debate where the staff of FOX FAUX laughed and gave their unprofessional hidden agenda running dialog…
IRONY is few debates compare apples to apples, to do so would be to give equal time to all candidates while answering the same questions!
RON PAUL will win with no thanks to the medias bias, it will be because the people have spoken up. DON’T VOTE ON DIGITAL TOUCHSCREENS, THEY PRODUCE VOTER FRAUD, AS DO THE SCANNERS. THEY ALL RUN ON Microsoft programs and transfer over modems with no paper trail! ANOTHER CORPORATE SCAM TO FLEECE AMERICANS.
- Posted by ladilibertyDr. Paul is the choice of “WE THE PEOPLE”. As the saying goes “money talks and bs walks”. The people have clearly spoken as Dr. Paul’s 4th qrtr. contribution haul has very clearly shown.
when will the american people wake up and stop listening to the MSM propaganda? Fox news and all of it’s warmongers are telling you lies people, wake up! THE POLLS MEAN NOTHING. Let’s stop being manipulated by the “elite” traiters to our CONSTITUTION .
- Posted by steveAmerica is in deep trouble financially and this phony “war on terror” is going to be the final nail in our coffin if we don’t stop this multi trillion $ fiasco in Iraq, Afghanistan and very soon Iran.
Dr. Paul has the guts to stand up to the globalist thugs who are threatening our sovereignty. Dr. Paul is the only candidate who will fight the real enemies of this country and stop this warmongering congress who’ve betrayed the people of this country.
Long Shot? Surely you’re not going to believe land-line based polls?
When was the last time those correctly predicted the national nominee?
The world has become digital.
- Posted by Tyranny BeanRon Paul may only be polling around 12%, but that is because only 12% of the public have been able to hear his message, thanks to the mainstream media’s refusal to cover his campaign on the same level it is covering Rudy, Mitt, and McCain. Ron Paul is the most important candidate that this country has seen in over a century, and the media don’t want you to know about him!
- Posted by Gene FriedmanThe picture shows one supporter only? You guys got to wake up and check how many Meetup groups this guys has!

- Posted by LauraDr. Ron Paul, just raised close to $20 million, Hillary-type money. He has won the majority of local GOP straw polls. He will easily be in the top-five in real elections. Yet, Fox is trying to exclude him from a five-man roundtable. Fishy, no?
Let’s look at Fox’ Board of Directors for another explanation. Here are some members: Rupert Murdoch, CEO News Corp.; Andrew S.B. Knight of Rothschild Investment Trust , the banking dynasty ; Former Education Secretary Rod Paige; and Viet Dinh Professor of Law, author of the Patriot Act.
A glance at the Communist Manifesto shows that government schools, central banking, and control of communications are several of the basic tenets of collectivism. Fox’ Board members are A-list practictioners of this philosophy.
In contrast, Ron Paul’ opposes federal control of educaton, and the loss of our freedoms in the Patriot Act. He wants a sound currency based on savings and tangible assets, not debt and thin air.
Moreover, “Republican” propagandist News Corp is a big donor to Hillary. Her top donor is Goldman Sachs, and they throw plenty to Obama and leveraged-buyout king Romney. This is a “Who’s Who” list of the housing bubble and dollar destruction, not fair arbiters in an election. Ron Paul’s top donors? Individuals from the Armed Forces. I say we exclude Fox - we need Dr. Ron Paul.

we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this nation or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the Ron Paulites, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”
I have said a million times, the biggest loser this election will be the media. It has show itself as more of a propaganda tool and entertainment portal than real news.
- Posted by FloBy the way dump Fox news stock. They are worthless as a news network
The real question that needs to be posed is simple.
If Ron Paul has won over 50% of the straw polls conducted in America, if Ron Paul has won every post debate poll, if Ron Paul has the largest grassroots supporters, if Ron Paul has raised almost $30M from almost a quarter million people and not accepted a dime from corporations…
Why isnt he the front runner?
If the ‘polls’ is your answer, obviously something doesnt add up. Those polls are far from accurate.. Remember Carter and Clinton?
- Posted by Thomas JeffersonHey everyone, both Reuters and the AP are both owned by the Rothschilds - that explains everything! :/
They HAVE to publicly discount Dr. Paul as much as they can, they are scared to death of him as he represents the biggest threat to them and their empire over us Landless Peasants, who BTW, outnumber them Billions to 1. Remember that…
If my comment is moderated, it’s because TPTB don’t want anyone to know who actually owns the newswires - I guess we LPF’s aren’t supposed to know ;P
- Posted by FunnyMunnyHere’s why I don’t believe in polls and why you
shouldn’t either:
The GOP Straw Poll has removed all 10,651+ of
Ron Paul’s votes formerly found in archive. He’s now been TOTALLY removed from the list of candidates.
See the 21,219 ballots cast on archived page versus 10,433 ballots cast 4 months later — they deleted all 10,651 of Ron Paul’s votes (plus apparently 135 more votes since archive date, if you do the math)

- Posted by blakmirasupporters growing daily speaks loud and clear. Don’t let the “polls” keep you from voting for Ron Paul just because you think he ‘doesn’t have a chance’!
70% of the United States population is on the Internet, where Paul is by far the most favored politician for president, yet when the media calls a 1000 people or so, he’s constantly polling very low.
Oh, and Paul raised the most cash of any Republican last quarter, but he’s virtually unknown.
Oh yes, this same media was the one that lied us into the war in Iraq and today still have no explanation of how that happened, even when Scott Ritter was screaming his head off that Bush was lying. Ritter was the Chief UN Weapons Inspector of Iraq, a former marine, a lifelong Republican and was accused of pedophilia while he was making these allegations about the intelligence claims.
Why does anybody still believe this media anymore?
- Posted by Richard WicksRon Paul is the best canadiate there is out there right now. The media shows him the black light when thompson is considered a “true canadiate”. Give me a break, the media should be banned to have anything to do with the election. The only reporting they should do is election day vote results. Everything else should go to like C-SPAN a non profit organzation which doesnt need to exclude members from a race per benefitial gain.
- Posted by IIsn’t it time to stop using the word “longshot” after a candidate out-raises everyone else in his party in the final quarter before the elections? Can’t you just report on the facts?
Are you going to call Obama a longshot too? How about Edwards?
Ron Paul is raising more money than Huckabee and McCain, by far. He has more volunteers than anyone. The clues are all around you, yet you’re relying on the polls which have never had a good record of predicting the primaries.
Will Ron Paul still be a long shot after he finishes ahead of Thompson and Giuliani and McCain tomorrow?
- Posted by CraigKinda makes you wonder who the previous candidates were that the media kept from us
- Posted by MarkDRon Paul IS NOT a longshot. His campaign keeps growing and growing, and he is raising more money than all the Republicans.

Calling him a long-shot???
Sounds like they’re trying to fight him now!
Reuters, wanna place a bet on what comes next?
Why does the MSM hate Ron Paul?
- Posted by steveIt is extremely obvious that the controlled mainstream media is ATTEMPTING to shut-off DR. RON PAUL from the American population. Reuters and other Establishment pollsters should review their numbers as they are, unmistakably, inconsistent with the HUGE growing support displayed by the great American majority for this clean candidate, of unquestionable integrity who is defending the American Constitution and protecting the genuine interests of this nation and its people.
Even, the media calls him a “Political Phenomenom” as it is inded rare to find a honesty, capability and patriotism nowadays in in the Washington Established Order!
- Posted by RoxanaI contend that media heads are grossly underestimating the grass-roots support for Dr. Paul. Everywhere I go I see Ron Paul signs and only Ron Paul signs, and mostly home made at that. He is the most talked about name I hear anymore.
My friend is a publisher for ROKON Magazine in Seoul Korea; he tells me that he thought Paul was the only one running, and that the American soldiers were requesting articles about him. I was playing an online video game with a gentleman in Pakistan the other night. He was staying in his house because of rioting outside. He asked me if I knew who Ron Paul was… I did. He told me that he is the focus of many a conversation there lately. They see Ron Paul as a logical humanitarian, and I think he’s right.
Coming from a large military community, a US Army Veteran myself, I am only hearing two names from military friends and family, Hero John McCain and Patriot Ron Paul. The conversations seem to heavily favor Ron Paul. As an Engineer, I travel frequently. In technology sector circles, every political conversation I hear includes Ron Paul. Not that they all favored Dr. Paul, but more he was the gage against which the issues are debated.
I would wager that more teenagers know of Ron Paul, than George Washington. He has received donations from more individual voters, than all the other republican candidates combined in Q4. That’s why I predict Ron Paul will place third or better in Iowa, and first place in New Hampshire.
Authentic, humble and honest, Dr. Paul stands out as an intellectual giant amongst his status-quo peers, is now the Rock Star celebrity of American politics, do in part the obvious bias against him in the media. We American’s love underdogs and that will be weighing heavily in Dr. Paul’s favor come Election Day. It has become popular to donate to Ron Paul. It’s like he is putting on a rock concert, and the tickets are selling out. -Fast!
Consider if political campaigns were businesses making IPO, Paul’s campaign would be The Darling of Wall Street. His quarterly revenue growth curve is unmatched, and with 135,000 separate donors in the last quarter alone, its potential is off the charts!
“Hedge your bets gentleman. Expect the unexpected from Patriot Ron Paul tomorrow, I certainly do!”

Rhetorical question:
Can a candidate win?
- Posted by DR RitterIf everyone refuses to report it?
The media is against Dr. Ron Paul. We can all agree. But one thing Mr. Paul has, and that is youtube.com!! Just go to youtube and the facts are there. not much need for searching. The media isnt working in Dr. Ron Pauls favor, but youtube will, since it’s not being completely controled by the government. yet…
- Posted by TrainWhen will the media get their head out of the ground!!!! Ron Paul is _ahead_ in most opinion polls. If the author would have done even one second’s worth of research, he would have discovered that Dr. Paul won the most straw polls, won the most text message polls, and won the most Internet polls.
So, observing the totality of this information, anyone can tell that Ron Paul is most certainly not polling in the single digits for opinion polls in general.
Now, why should proponents of a democratic voice put more weight into the media’s “targeted polls” which haven’t had a good track record for predicting primary winners in the past anyway?
Have a look at this:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=ron+paul% 2C+mitt+romney%2C+mike+huckabee%2C+rudy+ giuliani&ctab=0&geo=US&date=2007&sort=0
- Posted by Ron PaulSingle digits in polls? thats because he is excluded from most every poll. The media has been silencing him from day one. Dr. Paul has a larger and stronger support base than any other candidate. And Ron Paul a longshot candidate? Not hardly. look at the financial support he has raked in based on internet donations alone. He’s going up against Thompson, Giuliani and McCain today, and will win. What will be said then? will he still be smeared and ignored by the mainstream media? Keep spreading the message of freedom. We, as die hard supporters of Ron Paul far outnumber the media.

I used to be Democrate, Now I AM VOTING FOR RON PAUL. Lets end the war in Iraq Now! Lets bring the troops and the money home! If the main “stream” or old “slow stream”. Dose not listen, there will be hell to pay. We will not watch you MSM we will not watch you CNN we will make our own river of democracy!
- Posted by NewNateDogYa I agree the media is interfering in the elections, isnt that ilegal ?
There needs to be a investigation into this.
Every single one of us loose out directly because of this.
THE CONSTITUTION WAS WRITEN VERY PRECISELY
THE RESTRAIN THE POWER AND FORCE OF GOVERNMENT
AND TOO PROTECT THE LIBERTIES OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US.
RON PAUL….
- Posted by mikeI really do believe that money talks. People in the US “vote” with their money. They vote for which brand of hair conditioner, which type car, even which political candidate they like. In the race for the Republican presidential nomination, America has voted already. Follow the money to the winner.
TeaParty07.
- Posted by MartinLook, it makes sense that Ron Paul hasn’t showed up much in the polls. He’s appealing to Independents and young people who’ve never voted but who are all of a sudden very mobilized. They’re calling registered Republicans who’ve voted for Bush two times, what do you expect.
I do not think there’s a conspiracy although we do know for sure that FOX just doesn’t like him.
Disenfranchised people who usually don’t vote usually don’t show up at the caucuses. It’s the truth. Middle-aged and older people vote. All these people, including myself, have donated to his campaign because finally there is someone who is standing up for us and putting themselves on the line for us.
Now we have to do our part and show up tomorrow and in the following few weeks and vote. And tell everyone about him. Tell the people in the real world who don’t investigate things on their own. I told three people earlier today about him and they hadn’t even heard of the guy.
We have to start spreading the word in the real world, because those people vote more than the internet people. That’s been the truth so far. Look at Howard Dean. All that cash, all that support, and then 23% in Iowa 4 years ago. It’s not that anyone left him, it’s that young people don’t vote.
We need to get out there in hoards and put this guy over the top. Our country deserves it.
- Posted by Jason MarcelThe numbers prove he is not only the front runner in the Republican field, but by a very wide margin. He raised the money from a very large group of citizens that feel very strongly about this man. It’s not really about Ron Paul as it is about the people actually hearing the truth for once in their lives from a man as equally concerned about the plight of his country as any sane American should. If Ron does not take this thing easily today, then I fear that the ‘powers that be’ will finally be exposed for the people to see. We do indeed live in interesting times.
- Posted by canforpaulI just love how the MSM always have to mention, “fringe” or “long shot” when they mention RP.That just means it’s going to be that much more of a shocker when RP finishes in the top three in Iowa and New Hampshire. Thanks MSM , for making it so clear to the nation that you are biased and trying so hard to marginalize Ron Paul. By doing this you have awakened the sleeping beast, just what America needs, a good old fashioned revolution, Ron Paul revolution.
- Posted by freedogIf the media would let Ron Paul speak then he would be a front runner. If you look at google polls he is the front runner. The media is brainwashing the citizens of America to vote for the candidate that benefits them the most financially. Listen to Ron Paul’s message. He’s our only hope!
- Posted by AeRoFoRcEIf Ron Paul is so wrong, the why does he feel SO RIGHT?!
Dr. Paul cured my apathy! We’ve got hope for America!
- Posted by Brad in College Station, TXThe media has no clue about how many of us Paul supporters are actually out here. As usual, the story of the year is right under their nose and their asleep at the wheel.
- Posted by Nick, FloridaWake up! Ron Paul is for real. And we’re going to make sure this guy has enough doe to run with or without the nomination.
