hillary-ames.jpgAMES, Iowa — Stumping across Iowa on New Year’s Day, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton seemed to be in a particularly good mood, pausing to jest about her microphone conking out in the middle of her campaign speech.

“I was in Muscatine yesterday in the middle of a blizzard,” she told the crowd. “And I was going on and on about something concerning President Bush and the microphone just died.

“I thought, I know they’re a little obsessed with me, but this is getting a little absurd,” said the New York senator, who as first lady once famously blamed “a vast right-wing conspiracy” for attacks on the administration of her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

The crowd loved it, roaring with laughter.
