Cheney says standing ovation tempts him to run again, ‘almost’

Vice President Dick Cheney received a sustained standing ovation from fellow conservatives on Wednesday, prompting the often-criticized vice president to joke about himself.

rtx57z7.jpg“A welcome like that, it’s almost enough to make me want to run for office again,” Cheney said, drawing laughter. “Almost, almost.”

Polls show most Americans disapprove of Cheney just as they do of his boss, President George W. Bush.

But Cheney was embraced at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington think tank, where he urged Congress to pass a White House-backed surveillance bill. But first he subjected himself to some self-deprecating humor.

“I hold an office that has only one constitutional duty — presiding over the Senate and casting tie-breaking votes,” Cheney said.

“Before the Constitution was written, some, including Benjamin Franklin, believed that the vice presidency was entirely unnecessary.  He said that if the office were to be created, anyone who served as vice president should be addressed as ‘Your Superfluous Excellency.’”

“That’s better than some of the things I’ve been called,” Cheney said, drawing more laughter.

Yes, because outside a group of demonstrators chanted, “Fire the liar, impeach Cheney.”

SURELY, he jests . . . . . . .

HOWEVER, the mob-psychology that put him and his little boy “George” in office might still be there among the Christians and Fools wandering around looking for some convenient “answer”.

Liberals and the media leaders they have wrapped around their finger have done their best to attack Cheney. While they debate the meaning of the word, Cheney lives it…integrity. His leadership will be missed.

If you think what Cheney leads with is anything close to “integrity” please reevaluate your moral compass as it seems to be pointing in the complete opposite direction of the rest of the world.

Lying, cheating, stealing and covering it all up while laughing in the face of the American public that (foolishly) put him in power is NOT my definition of integrity, nor should it be yours.

If he’s so full of integrity, please ask him to provide the electronic communications of his office from 2001-2003 and specific periods of 2005 as requested by the congressional body investigating his closed door dealings.

All electronic records of the white house are required by law to be archived as part of the Presidential Records Act, so please explain how losing multiple YEARS of vital communications during some of the most heavily scandalous periods of our government in recent history equates to living with integrity????

Wake up people. The real fight is NOT between liberals and conservatives, despite their best efforts to keep us distracted squabbling with each other. The fight is between the American people and an increasingly overbearing, unaccountable shadow government that is anything but “for the people”.

If you think the direction our country has taken in the last 7 years is a good one, you’re not paying attention at all.

No doubt Dude. I think that this once great land of freedom has been successfully converted to a fascist state. Some people (like Doyle55) are so brain washed by the mainstream media, there’s no turning back. They don’t understand the differences between “fact” and “fiction” and “truth” and “lies” only “patriot” or “terrorist”. This isn’t just similar to what the Nazis did, IT’S THE SAME THING. They blow things up at home and blame it on someone else as a convenient excuse for going to war while creating a totalitarian state at home. Our democracy has failed. Our government has failed. It’s only going to get worse. Welcome to fascism America.

You don’t have to roll over and accept the fascism. What if on Feb 5th Americans decided to count the vote.

Rather than allow those diebold machines to count in secret, citizens can go to their polling places near closing time, then ask the poll workers to verify the vote by hand counting the ballots in public view.

That’s how democracy works- with the votes counted in public. Demand it- with a video camera. Post your results on youtube.

Facist state… i totaly understand this. I didn’t see it at first either… shit. i voted for bush. BIG mistake! He lied to me the first 100 times before i caught it lol.. now we need to change it. I love my country!

- Posted by Nathan

converted to a facist state? you mean with speach codes, such that anything deemed not “politically correct” results in the destruction of someones career? even when what they are saying is the truth? (like the president of harvard university, or even recently Chris Mathews groveling while profusely apologizing for telling the truth about Mrs. Bill Clinton)…fascist indeed. And it is facism rising out of the left with their intolerance and victim mentality entitlement programs. 400,000+ American GIs fought and died fighting Facism and Socialism in WW2 and now we have Socialists (in Mrs. BJ Clinton and others) running for president. Seems a real shame.

Good idea jbrown! I don’t understand how people voting on any side of the isle can care so little about the legitimacy of our elections. I am personally fed up and hope people will do exactly what you’re recommending. Down with blackbox voting, lets get our paper trail back!

yes, dick coward cheney he should run he has been running ever since he got his draft notice. how many votes would he get. he lost one vote when he got drunk and shot his buddy dove hunting.

- Posted by big bib

I agree with dick cheney. At least he is a man that means what he says. And doesn’t say anything just to get elected. That is integrity!Thank you mr cheney for not going crazy in a county that seems to be going crazy and blaming you for it!

He’s more likely to be running for the border when his term ends.

Integrity? Cheney? In the same sentence? Come on. This guy (and his boss) should be in jail instead of speaking before crowds of Ditto-heads. He has brazenly and admittedly broken so many laws, I can’t keep track of them all. He’s been denying access to his office by those in charge of national security, which is illegal. His office has intentionally erased White House correspondence, which is illegal. He demanded that he help Georgie testify before the 9/11 commission, which is just sad. He was against Vietnam before he was for it…once his deferments kicked in. This guy has been a cancer on the world since he first entered the political scene.

The Hague awaits Bush, Cheney, and their accomplices.

You know what? All off the negative comments- however true they may be- are nothing more than jealousy. Seriously, the guy is a weasel, but he’s getting away with it. Blatantly! And there is nothing, I mean NOTHING, that “we the people” can do about it. That’s the whole crux of the issue. We are powerless and deep down we know it. Everyone of these heartless millionaires in charge do not care what we think or say, they are above the law. Just like a bunch of well-connected rich arrogant frat boys who get all of the money, all of the accolades, all of the hot chicks, and all of the power. We are only here to serve them. We are allowing this to happen. We are allowing our Country to swirl down the drain and yet we’re powerless to do anything about it except p*ss and moan on the internet like the impotent weaklings we are.

People like Doug and Doyle are why this country will continue it’s decline from superpower to crumbling joke with an army of sheeple bleating happily all the while.

If you are still in the camp that thinks Bush and co. have served this country well, or have served with even one tiny shred of integrity, your voting rights should simply be eliminated. You are abusing your right to guide this country via voting by being a complete and total idiot with absolutely zero comprehension of how the world works or what is happening to our once great nation.

Please get your lunacy off my elections.

Signed,
The few remaining Americans with their eyes still open.

When there is a brokered GOP convention when no one has 50% of the delegates GOP Party insiders will name Dick Cheney the nominee

Hillary vs Cheney wow God Help US

Why are they honoring Cheney. To quote Michael Douglas’ character from the film Wall Street, “Have we run out of human beings?”

- Posted by Recovering Republican

Dick Cheney is singlehandedly responsible for setting back the Freedom of Information Act and government openness 20 years. The ‘executive’ orders signed by the Bush Administration over the past 7 years have effectively disabled any measures the FOI act gave citizens to discover information about the government they pay for with their hard earned tax dollars. The fact that the Open Government Act passed this year is absolutely astonishing considering the administrations resistance to it. They’ve no doubt left loopholes in to effectively disable this new act too. The country is demanding openness and transparency in the government, and Cheney has done everything he can to prevent that from happening. What are you trying to hide, Mr. Cheney? Quite frankly most of us can’t wait until you are out of office.

What gets me is the tired old mantra of “liberal media” coming from the ignorant. They call CNN “Communist News Network” and NBC “Negative Broadcasting Company,” etc. (meaning, negative to the conservative agenda). How do they account for Fox and the so-called “liberal media”? Well, they claim Fox is balanced. I always ask my conservative acquaintences who the “liberal” is that has his or her own show on Fox? Who’s the Lou Dobbs of Fox? Count them up, folks. Count the centrists and right-leaning and far right “news” anchors and “journalists” and ask how they stack up against the ONLY (and I do mean ONLY) liberal news anchor/journalist to have his own show–and that is Keith Olbermann. Don’t give me Brian Williams or Chris Mathews or Wolf Blitzer or Joe Scarborough or Katie Couric or Tucker Carlson or even Dan Abrams–they’re all trying to be “fair,” but come off pathetically transparent. Name one other true liberal in the media–television or mainstream newspaper. One name. Olbermann. So please, please, please, please stop with the “liberal media” bullshit.

- Posted by A Martinez

Why are they applauding this fool? What has gone right in America in the last seven years? Name one thing that is a success or an improvement. Name one!

- Posted by orangutan

Liberal bias, you ask? How about clinching a seemingly “balanced” story with:

Yes, because outside a group of demonstrators chanted, “Fire the liar, impeach Cheney.”

No bias there at all, Reuters.

- Posted by realist

Post #22 calls himself “realist”, but fails to realize the preceding sentence nullifies his misplaced charge of ‘bias’:
“That’s better than some of the things I’ve been called,” Cheney said, drawing more laughter.

Yes, because outside a group of demonstrators chanted, “Fire the liar, impeach Cheney.”
No smug, Faux News-like myopia there at all, ‘realist’.

And it has been proven time X time X time again,
that DICK CHENEY IS A *LIAR*.

And a treasonous, murderering war criminal, to boot.

JUSTICE AWAITS .

I don’t see that Cheney is offering anything more than most of the other Republican presidential candidates…. oh wait… There is already a bill in the house for his impeachment and many documented crimes while Vice President. Does he want to add to the list?

Go Ron Paul!

Imagine. A courtroom in a middle American city, a seasoned judge noted for his knowledge of US law and a jury comprised of twelve level-headed, rational Americans to hear the evidence - and ultimately - to render a verdict. With the prosecutors and defense team poised to go forward, in walks George Bush and Dick Cheney, charged with dereliction of duty, conspiracy to defraud the American people, manufacturing intelligence evidence and engaging in an illegal war.
Fortunately for the accused, arrogance, beligerence and stupidity aren’t crimes. And international war crimes will be addressed elsewhere.
Considering the magnitude of the crime - and the shear consquences - millions of documents, thousands of hours of video tape and a parade of witnesses will be examined. The records of over 4,000 US military deaths won’t be considered because of it’s prejudicial nature and no family members may be heard. The death records of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians won’t be introduced either. In fact, the evidence is vague because the figure wasn’t considered to be important, and the mounting numbers weren’t tracked, but could be as large as one million.
At the trial’s conclusion, after all the testimony, documentary evidence and underlying motives, the judge instructs the jury and no surprise to the scholars and the legal community, both defendants walk free.
Simply stated, the ex-president and vice president of the Unted States broke no laws.
Welcome the the American political machine. Any wonder over 58,000 Americans died in Vietnam - for absolutely no reason?
