Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama made an appearance — via satellite while campaigning in Beaufort, South Carolina — on David Letterman’s “Late Show” on Thursday to read the show’s traditional “Top 10″ list.
The Top 10 Barack Obama campaign promises:
10. To keep the budget balanced, I’ll rent the Situation Room for sweet 16s.
9. I will double your tax money at the craps table.
8. Appoint Mitt Romney secretary of lookin’ good.
7. If you bring a gator to the White House, I’ll wrassle it.
6. I’ll put Regis on the nickel.
5. I’ll rename the 10th month of the year “Barack-tober.”
4. I won’t let Apple release the new and improved iPod the day after you bought the previous model.
3. I’ll find money in the budget to buy Letterman a decent hairpiece.
2. Pronounce the word nuclear, nuclear.
1. Three words: Vice President Oprah.
When the Top 10 was finished, Letterman said, “Sen. Barack Obama, thank you very much for helping us out, senator. Good luck with the campaign.”
Obama replied, “Thank you so much, David, but you can’t muss my hair” — a reference to Letterman messing up rival John Edwards’s hair during his Late Show appearance on Tuesday.
Said Letterman, “OK, whatever you say.”

Very poor judgment on the part of Obama and his campaign advisors! I was very sorry to see him make such a fool-hardy mistake so close to the South Carolina primary. Even though it was meant to be humorous, there were too many stereotypes of what conservatives fear will be the situation when the nation elects its first minority American President. The comedy routine did not embellish him as a mature leader capable of leading a traumatic nation through severe economic conditions, grave international complications and wise political change. I am very dismayed by the lack of insight. America’s future given the current paradigm shift is no joking matter.
- Posted by ChieChie, I agree that there are many serious conditions that the next president will have to face, i.e. the war in Iraq, the economy, the environment, etc.
I do think, though, you need to lighten up. Do you watch “Late Night” often? Have you ever seen the comedy bit, “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches.” Bush is trying to be serious and he fails time and time again.
I think it is fine for candidates to show a lighter side. It gives us an insight into their personality.

- Posted by JohnChie,
Where you sober when you posted your comments? David Letterman hosts a late night comedy show, he does not host political debates. You’re confusing him fo Chris Mathews or Wolf Blitzer. Hillary Clinton was on Tyra and joked about beauty pageants…oh my! What will that say about her character to conservatives? They better not find out that Bill Clinton once played the Sax on Leno whilst campaigning for his presidency. It’s a comedy show and is meant to loosen the image of the candidate and endear him to a wider audience, and guess what, it works.
- Posted by HaveNotI agree with you Robert. You could hang Chie upside down and he’d argue that the world had tipped over! His perspective on what most people thought was a wonderful showing of light-heartedness by Obama, particularly at a time the Clintons are throwing every dirty trick at him short of murder, was very endearing.
I was a Clinton supporter until this week came along. Made my self appear like a fool defending them in front of Republicans, Edwardians and Obamites…no more. Lady MacBeth and MacBeth himself are shameful human beings.
- Posted by HaveNotLove his fresh approach to life and US politics. Come join us at http://www.barackobama.com and be part of the solution. Barak has has it right this campaign is not all about him, its about all of us being involved in our government. He enables this approach as opposed to others who only look to insiders.
