ORONO, Maine - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she took “deep offense” at comments by an MSNBC anchor about her daughter Chelsea’s role in her campaign and said she still had not decided whether to participate in a debate sponsored by the network later this month.
“I am a mom first and a candidate second and I found the remarks incredibly offensive,” Clinton said at a news conference on Saturday at the University of Maine. ”I have sent a letter to the head of NBC expressing the deep offense that I took.”
She was referring to a remark from MSNBC’s David Shuster, who questioned on Thursday whether Chelsea was “sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way” by the campaign because she was making calls to voters and giving speeches advocating for her mother.
MSNBC said in a statement on Friday that Shuster had apologized to the Clintons on-air for the remark and was suspended from broadcasts except to make the apology, but Clinton suggested in her letter to MSNBC that the cable network should go further to make amends.
“Nothing justifies the kind of debasing language that David Shuster used and no temporary suspension or half-hearted apology is sufficient,” she said in the letter.
Pressed on whether she would participate in the debate that will be hosted by the network on Feb. 26, Clinton said: ”We’re going to wait and see how this plays out.”
Asked for a reaction to Clinton’s comments, the network said it stood by its earlier statement which also included MSNBC’s own apology.

MSNBC and David Shuster went too far with the rude comment concerning Chelsea Clinton helping with Senator Hillary Clinton’s campaign. The comment is completely out of line. No matter which candidate a person supports for this presidential campaign, a personal attack of this nature is the lowest form of “reporting”. One has to question David Shuster’s and MSNBC’s motives for this kind of attack and why MSNBC hasn’t fired David Shuster. While we have freedom of speech in this country, David Shuster is in a postion in which professionalism should come before his disgusting opinions.
- Posted by TomHave to agree with the headline on this one. The media has a responsibility to avoid offensive, vulgar and bias opinions.
- Posted by AlbertI’m not a Hilary fan but I feel that journalist have gone to far especially when giving news as opposed to commentary. It has been apparent that NBC has been anti Hillary. If the network has any credibility they should fire chusster and nobody should ever hire him as a news man again. WE should all be held responsible for our actions. Some of these news types (Dan Rather) let their ego get in the way of common sense.
- Posted by bobThough i agree that Shuster was out of line, I can’t help but wonder if this is a look into the future term of office for the would be Pres Clinton. I can respect that she is a parent first and a candidate second, but I fear that this means she might place her role as the leader of the free world second as well. MSNBC and Shuster have apologized and they are also taking appropriate disciplinary steps. As an on the fence democrat, Clinton will lose my support if she is not at the MSNBC debate. I feel that being a parent is an important role, but what about her being a parent to the US?
- Posted by JasonIf a similar remark had been made about Obama by the press or by anyone in Clinton’s camp for example “Oprah works like a slave for him” the media would have been all over it, outraged and the coverage and the significance of the remark would have been covered and discussed for days.
This kind of treatment of Hillary is not new. Have any of you seen the unblieveably offensive Hillary TShirts that the republicans are hawking? Of did anyone notice when some idiot shouted to Hillary “iron my shirts!” that people chuckled and the press paid no attention to it?
Everyone should read Robin Morgan’s piece “Goodbye to all that(#2)”

She is using this to garner sympathy. It’s all tactical to her. The reporter shouldn’t have said what he said, but do I have any sympathy for Hillary using this as a publicity stunt. . .no.
- Posted by LawrenceDavid Shuster’s vulgar debasing comments about Chelsea Clinton puts him at the top of the list of most coveted reporters for the FOX News Network.

Enough Said.
It might have been wrong for what he said but what he said is true. He should have just sugar coat it for Hilary Clinton. I am tired of her not being able to handle anything. She wants to be the leader of our country and look what she has done…She has cried and she is saying being a mother comes first. Well she can be a mother first and not have to worry about being President. Because I would think being PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES is a bit more important than fighting your childrens battles. Clinton needs to get her political stance correct. She is changing her mind way way to much and she can not take the heat. I can only imagine what would happen when she takes office.
- Posted by LeeannAlthough I think Shuster’s comment was extremely unfortunate, I believe he really made a mistake. He is a good and honest journalist and I have never seen him be biased in anyway. Clinton is not displaying grace and fairness in this situation. Neither she, nor the other candiates have a problem slinging mud when it suits them. I don’t appreciate her threats to pull out of the debate and holding MSNBC hostage - she is clearly trying to ruin a legitimate person’s career for her own quest to receive sympathy from the public. Very Sad!!
- Posted by kimberley millerShe is pimping her out. And her husband is pimping Hillary out so that he can be in the White House again. It’s true.
- Posted by Damon FernandesNobody referred to Mitt Romney “pimping” out his sons who were just as active in his campaign. A double standard yet again exposing systemic media prejudice towards all women.
- Posted by SamiI agree the remark was completely out of line and very inappropriate but let’s not start a witch hunt in asking for this mans job. He has apologized and is being suspended. That seems an appropriate punishment. He is an excellent anchor who made a bad judgement. Why are we so intense as a society that we have to ruin a mans career after one slip-up. Lighten up people.
- Posted by jessicaI am one of the biggest MSNBC fans but I have been quite surprised at how they have openly been anti-Hillary. David Schuster clearly went out of line here by using such offensive words. Afterall all Chelsea was doing was helping campaign for her own Mum. I mean who wouldn’t do that. From morning through evening all MSNBC does is promote Obama and bash Hillary and my friends and I have come to a conclusion that the network has an agenda here. The only person who has given a fair coverage on this issue, I believe has been Dan Abrams. Please go back to reporting and giving the viewer a chance to make their own decisions and not trying to tell them who to vote for.
- Posted by SusieI think, Shuster was actually expressing sympathy for Chelsea, who should have been more loved and gotten more attention from her parents and us as a former First Daughter. We have sad memories about her during Bill’s presidency. Maybe, Shuster was thinking Chelsea deserves something more dignifing than campainging for her mother begging for votes.
- Posted by Miai love the reporting that david shuster’s have done on msnbc i never thought he was this kind of a reporter he seem to be very good in what he has done in the past but went you start being around people like chris matthew whom also was fair on one point in time until he started kissing in to obama and talking about the clintons and joe scarbough whom when in congress never liked the clintons this is whats happens i hope he has a change in heart an apologize to the clintons he is from arkansas this way he can continue in the good grace of the american people.
- Posted by RAPHAEL RUIZthis is the result of putting your TWENTY EIGHT year old daughter out on the firing line and then not allowing the press to question/interview her at all.
the clintons cannot have it bothways but yes, they think they can. although we saw her grow up in the white house she is now an adult and why should she be protected from the hard questions.
the clintons are gloating… this is the second time they have checkmated msnbc.
- Posted by marianneThe comment wasn’t that bad. Shuster is a good guy. If Chelsea is gonna campaign, she should be ready for the heat. The Clintons are just trying to silence the media.
WHY DONT CHELSEA GO GET A JOB like the rest of us???
And she is as ugly as her mama.
- Posted by JonBIt seems the media in the United States is anti Hilary just as they were for pro war in Iraq.
I find the media is pro Obama and men(white in particular) seem to be afraid of a woman being president in the US. Why is the media not addressing this in the US? Just to show again how biased the reporting is there still.
- Posted by Carol MorganI am so sick of “politically correct” getting in the way of free speech and the right to express one’s opinion! Schuster was merely commenting on an observation of his own, questioning it, not stating it as fact. Perhaps he should have worded it differently, but he was only using the vernacular of the times. I don’t even think he should have to apologize, let alone have his job threatened!
If Hillary wants to withdraw from the debate, then fine. Stop being childish Hillary! Take your ball and go home…we can always find another game to play, and you can sit home alone. Who suffers? Certainly not us if you want to show your true colors. I was sitting on the fence until now, but I think you just pushed me over to Obama’s side.
- Posted by JillIf anyone thinks that Sen. Clinton’s response is not justified, then one is either being dishonest with themselves or they are not a Mother. I don’t care if she may be the leader of the free world, as a leader she should show integrity and loyalty and yes, that does begin at home.
- Posted by LeeSchuter’s remark is totally out of bounds. He may be following the example of his senior colleages Mathews and Oberman. All three have been hostile and aggressive toward Hillary. Mathews has already apologized to Hillary for his sexist remark. Is this becoming a trend on MSNBC? All deserve more than a hand slap. MSNBC needs to raise the bar and expect more responsible jouralism.
- Posted by CarolNiziolekI was disgusted with MSNBC’s relentless Hillary bashing long before David Shuster’s totally tasteless remark about Chelsea. No more MSNBC for me. I’ll rely on PBS for unbiased reporting.
- Posted by MarjorieAlmost every child of every candidate who ever cared to run for President of this republic has campaigned for and advocated for their parent. These campaign activities by offspring have been within the mainstream of society here and around the world. It is a traditional and heart warming thing to see families who work together. It takes a low life like David Shuster to pervert it. Those who are defending his nasty mouth are obviously extreme partisans of the unwashed hate Clinton mob. David Shuster has turned himself into a totem of this mob. He should be fired and the producer of Carlson’s MSNBC show canned also. Until MSNBC does something more extrovert and decisive to reign in it’s jackals who are masquerading as journalist. I will not be inviting MSNBC or any GE products into my home or living room where my young teenage grandchildren gather. Believe me their products are not so unique that I will miss them. Bad manners or mean spirited attacks on candidates children are never OK. The fault of low level political discourse is not with the Clinton’s or any other candidate. The fault is with the messengers.
- Posted by RedmanWhat Schuster should have said, is that her campaign is in such trouble that she needs to pull out all the stops at this point and that means using Chelsea to be a third voice.
It was like when Hillary used her Mom to look more warm and fuzzy when people were feeling she is just a pre-programmed robot.
Notice you don’t see Obama using his children for the sake of health care coverage for all children. He just happens to be running a much better campaign all round.
- Posted by suzannaThough this statement was offensive, the fact that H. Clinton wants Shuster’s head on a platter really shows her true nature. Instead of being magnanimous and accept the apology, she shows how mean she is. I think it really shows the mettle of Hillary Clinton as a vindictive, mean spirited, power hungry women. She wants to make an example of this reporter to make all other reporters know their place. I had not decided, but now… it will be Obama.
- Posted by alan robbinsMSNBC has an agenda? Hello! Every one of them has an agenda. Every one of them has a point of view and an opinion as to which candidate would make the best president. And every one will, not matter how unbiased they wish to present themselves, push their point of view. The trick for the viewer is to be able to take in all these points of view and make an educated decision. Be responsible, people.
Apart from this, Shuster’s comment about Chelsea is decidedly unprofessional. I agree, it was probably a mistake, but still reflected the intensity of his point of view. Control yourself, Shuster!

Chelsea is almost 30 years old ! Big enough to stick up for herself and why isnt she at work like the rest of us ? if she has a problem she can tell the guy herself !

- Posted by qsterMSNBC and other Corporate America News Stations has an Republican agenda, which is to try and keep a Republican President in the White House and regain both Houses of Congress by any means neccessary, Here’s what Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC News Anchors are doing, they are first building- up Obama to get rid of Hillary, because they know she is the stronger candidate that has a better chance of beating the Republican Nominee, but they rather have Obama debate the Republican nominee, because he’s has less experience then Hillary as a US Senator, and he’s a Jr. Senator, if they can get rid of Hillary first, then they would start descrediting Obama and his campaign’s message of Hope, Change, Unity, and Inspiration to make it easier for the Republican nominee to win the White House, and possibly regain control over both Houses of Congress as well. These Corporate News stations are mingled and also in the pockets of the Republican Party, Democrats, Please do not be decieved and blind here, because believe or not, mostly Corporate America are Republicans, and who owns and operate’s these cable news stations? You’re right! the Republicans, so utlimately, they are going to stick together in the end, they are so far, successfully influencing this election by using a slick and subtle process of elimination strategy. to try and achieve their overall objective, first they are trying eliminate the Democratic Candidates one by one, which would ultimately leave one Presidential Candidate standing of what party? You’re right again! the Republican Candidate will be able to easily walk into the Oval office again in 2009. This is the long-term goal, strategy, mission, and objective of the Republican Party to gain, regain, and keep power and control in the highest offices in the US Government, by using their brought and paid for racist, sexist, gender- biased attack dogs in the Corporate America Media to ultimately try and make the whole Democratic party the minority party again for another four years.
Go Hillary Go!! You’re The New “Clean-up Woman.”
- Posted by DarrellDavid Shuster is one of the most outstanding journalists on MSNBC. The man misspoke. Who hasn’t? His heartfelt apology should be enough. This reminds me of the Danish cartoonists threatened with death over a controversial depiction of Mohamed. David made a poor choice, but Chelsea isn’t exactly a holy figure, and even if she were, so what? During the Libby debacle, he was the only person who could coherently describe the situation. He is a gifted and flawed individual like so many of the rest of us.
- Posted by barbara lehmanIts amazing that so many women seem to think its fine for a journalist/commentator to disparage a woman on TV for helping out her mother. I just want to ask them how fine will they be is they were treated to such language at their workplace. I thought Mr. Shuster was on TV in a professional capapcity and I just wanted to know how many places of work were OK with that kind of language at workplace be it directed at their collegues or just anyone else. Also I think long before Chelsea was “pimped out” Mr.Obama by same definition was and is continuing to “pimping out” his Jackie O wannabe wife and two girls in high doses. How come that went unnoticed?
Please support the person you want by voting for tme but please dont be party to such obnoxious language/ behavious as that reflects more on you than on Hillary or Chelsea or anyone else for that matter.

It is a shame about David Schuster. He is the latest in a very L O N G line of people to be “used” and “abused” in order for the Clintons’ to receive media attention for yet again, being “victimized”.
There is truth in the old cliche: If you can’t stand the heat, then, stay out of the kitchen.
It is one thing for Chelsea Clinton as an adult to be campaigning for her mother. However, then Ms. Clinton, is as fair game for the scrutiny of the press as any other adult campaigning on behalf of candidates in either party.
For me, a 55 year old woman whose one degree is in Women Studies, I find it completely repugnant that “gender” is being ’studied’ instead of the character and the issues of each candidate.
Further enflaming the radical feminist branch of voters, regardless of their blatant attempts to distort the other candidate’s position on “their” issues, may, in the end, not assist Senator Clinton in her bid for the Presidency with mainstream voters.
The real shame of it is that in reality, as poorly thought out as Schuster’s question/remark was, he is the REAL victim of this entire mess!
Mr. Schuster capitulated and APOLOGIZED which is MORE than Senator Clinton has ever done for her vote for the Iraq war. She has NEVER apologized to ALL the mothers whose adult children are no longer alive to be “called names”.
- Posted by Dari CIt amazes me that it is ok for the Republicans to have their children,ie., George Bushes two daughters, his nephew campaigned for him and his father, John Kerry’s step-children, Ronald Regan’s daughter and so on. The minute that Hilliarys daughter started to campaign for her mother she is “pimped” out. If this isn’t discrminatory, I don’t know what is. MSNBC has a duty to the public to at least appear non-bias, but they can’t continue to put up that front, so their true colors emerge. I think the FCC should suspend them from the air for awhile. Maybe they will get the message, that freedom of speech does not give them the write to make disparaging remarks about a candidate they have worked years at trying to discredit. The personal attacks on her haven’t work, so they attack her daughter. Shame On Them!!
- Posted by Carolyn KleinIt is a sad commentary on the state of ethics and acceptable conduct in this nation when a national news commentator would make such a disparaging remark about a former President’s daughter. Equally distressing is the fact that so many of our fellow citizens happily join in the guttersniping and wallow in the mud and filth like they belong there. I have not seen a U.S. Presidential candidate and family, so maligned since Robert Kennedy in 1968. We have a growing portion of our electorate, intellectually incapable of debating the issues, but who thrill at the opportunity to spread poison and to unmercifully condemn our candidates and leaders. We know the character composition of these poor minded, needy souls from being subjected to their obscenities and absurdities. May God enlighten them.
- Posted by James ZeebHe spoke the truth. Clintons use their daughter and are now using their machine as they always have. Amazing that a reporters comment has cost him his job and Bill’s romp with a young girl (in the oval office) has cost him nothing except shame for this nation.

He should be fired. I don’t understand all this Hillary bashing. Bush used his two daughters who are more loose and amoral than any kids in the White house have been. Mr. And Mrs. Clinton should be commended for raising a wonderful, mature, intelligent and respectful daughter. She is an extremely educated person and works at a very good firm, unlike the Bush daughter who are as usual up to nothing earth-shaking and use the power and privilege of their father to sell their books, etc. Kerry used is whole family, Romney used his sons, Reagan used his kids, Bush used his, Edwards used his daughter too. Where was MSNBC when all these men were pimping their kids and wives. I still remember when the going got tough on Bush, he would send his wife, mother, sister, daughter to pimp, I’ll use the word since that is what it was.
I am tired of all this Hillary bashing and Clinton bashing in general by the media. Please put a stop to it, immediately. None of our past presidents have been perfect and the media needs to stop picking sides to get what they want and who they want elected. In my opinion that is the lowest form of reporting when it is so biased.
People from all sides need to rise above it and say enough is enough!
- Posted by SheenaWhen Don Imus made his inappropriate comments, he was fired and rightly so. Now where are all the people and organizations who supported the victims of his verbal attack? It was wrong then and it is wrong now.
- Posted by TomLike Senator HRC, I too am a mother and would certainly get offended if a comment was made by anyone, reporters or a private citizen. However she forgets that we live in a free speech society, right or wrong, offensive, derog or not.In fact there are more foul and offensive lanquage in our movies,tv programs, mtv, reality shows and yet no one gets suspended or fired!!I remembered vividly watching Bill Clinton denying the fact the he INDEED did not have a relationship with Monica Lewinsky, then shortly after admitting that he INDEED did have a intimate relationship with her!! He outright lied to our nation, but more importantly to GOD and yet he was never impeached!! Shame on our country or allowing him to still keep his JOB! Although I admire HRC in her courage to secure on the most important Position in our country, I find it very difficult to trust them knowing that her husband will be back in the White House!!

qster says:
“Pimping a woman is the equivalent of calling her a whore. Shuster should be fired. End of story.”
Like this fellow ‘qster”, Most of these folks who are jumping on the “David Shuter’s head on a platter” bandwagon with the Clintons do not even know the meaning of the word “pimp out”. Why, therefore, are they making these unintelligent comments?
Look up the meaning of the word, and I assure you, when you do, you would understand the context in which David Shuster used that vernacular, and it was not meant to be derogatory, or offensive as Hillary is making it to be. It does not have the notorious connotation that Bill and Hillary Clinton have made the several million morons we have in the US, who cannot read between the lines and CANNOT think for themselves, believe.
I urge bloggers to, each send an email to MSNBC Board, urging it to recall David Shuster to his normal duties, without any preconditions, immediately.
- Posted by Ignatius AnyanwuIt was an unfortunate choice of words - and an apology was issued. There are more important things to focus on. The President has to lead in an inspiring manner by his/her actions and words.
If people were so concerned about bias, they should consider Hillary’s close ties and her six years of experience on the Board of Walmart.
Walmart is being sued - the largest class action gender dicrimination suit ever filed - by 1.6 MILLION women workers.
Hillary has said nothing to support the women there and literally done nothing to help the women workers stop BIAS there in 22 years. She remains SILENT and seems more concerned about her 1,600 profitable shares of Walmart.
I want a President who is speaks out for 1.6 million women workers….. not just about her privileged daughter.
- Posted by EdwardIt was a tactless remark but we still have freedom in the press in place. I think trying to silence the media or using the comment to get sympathy votes even more offensive.
- Posted by JeannieThis argument about “pimping someone out” may have somewhat of a generational fault line. Referring to “pimps” or i.e. “he or she is a pimp”, etc. is used in the 18 - 44 demographic primarily borrowed from the hip-hop culture. Look at post 42 which mentions other nominees “pimping” their kids - it was probably unconscious. So what’s the beef? Shuster attacking Chelsea or using the phrase? Should news journalist use it or does it make them look less professional? It probably does, I notice male journalist seem to think they can be more familiar or more informal in that respect. Remember when Anderson Cooper said to Fred Thompson: “What’s up with that?”. As for Hillary, well I recall the media calling George Bush out when his nephew, George P was speaking Spanish to the young ladies and the media suggested he was being used for his good looks and language abilities - it worked! Do I think there is a different standard for Hillary? Yes, I do. However, she claims to have 35 years of experience and suggests she can take whatever comes her way - well take this and move on. What her campaign tried to do to the Obama campaign in South Carolina is ten times more insidious. Now, if someone called Chelsea a “nappy headed ho” well I think there would be an outcry. And by the way , I’m a card carrying feminist!

I beleive Obama is Media genterated by all the media just to have Hillary defeated. All I can say is Be careful what you wish for.
As a foreign observer of the American nomination process, I have to say I’m astounded by the amount of bias in the reporting. Obama is fawned over and treated like a messiah, when as far as I have seen he offers no concrete plans and has little experience in bringing about anything of substance. Hillary on the other hand, in debates comes across as incredibly well-informed and she always offers every little detail about her future plans. I know I would vote for Hillary.
The problem is the media can paint whatever picture they like, and twist stories as they please, and Americans don’t have the intelligence to see through it.
- Posted by KaneThe remark IS deeply offensive because it comes from a reporter and news channel who are supposed to remain UNBIASED in their coverage. This is not the case here. There is an extraordinary bias against Hillary, and Obama is clearly receiving a free ride.

David Schuster has received his slap on the wrist and should be reinstated post-haste. His comments could easily have been laughed off by the Clintons. I guarantee you neither Hillary nor Bill were the least bit upset over this ubiquitous phrase. As far as I’m concerned they must have perceived some political gain in deciding to cry fowl.
I wish the ‘crucify him’ crowd would stop and ask themselves what Schuster’s intent was when he spoke those harmless words. Have you never said something stupid and immediately wished you could snatch them back. That’s probably what happened, and it could happen to anyone.
As for the Clintons, me thinks they cried too much, too loudly.

My African American friends agree that the media has gone nuts and is generating race problems to assist the Republicans in November by getting Obama the nomination. The Republicans need to remember once you open that box it’s hard to shut. It may come back and bite them in the but.
Yes, the youth are being pulled in, but remember they bought out the Hannah Montana concerts in less than five minutes in some areas. It’s that time for youth enthusiam. Unfortunately, in this day and time the media is hyping Obama; he talks good, he looks good, but what else? When his followers have been asked one, repeat one, policy he has stood for they insanely say “he gives me hope”, when policy is explained, they say he wouldn’t of voted for the war. He wasn’t able to vote.

There will be a collective sense of regret if Hillary is not the nominee because in a general election Obama does not stand a chance. The polls are a red herring. It will be another 4 or 8 years with the Republican President …. because when a push comes to a shaft, the majority of Americans are still deeply concern about security and without Hillary, the only viable democrat on this issue, the Republicans will carry the day.

Instead of securing our borders and ports, Dubya took us permamently to the Middle East at probably 1000 times the cost. For oil, of course. The government has so many Americans so paranoid over illegal aliens that THEY have decided all Americans need to carry National ID cards.
Someone please explain to me how our carry chip-implanted ID cards keeps us safer.
You’d be better off spending your time writing your congress person and asking for their explanation to this question.
It’s all a crock, the security issue.
Take off your shoes..don’t take off your shoes. You can’t bring that food aboard the plane…now you can. Build a fence, don’t build a fence.
I agree with Ron Paul on this one: eliminate free medical care and other welfare and the problem with take care of itself.
Ladies and gentlemen, there are plenty of serious issues to worry about in this country without crying about somebody who said ‘pimping out’.
- Posted by Connman53Addendum to the above:
- Posted by Connman53It’s interesting how Bush seemed to change his mind about global warming when it became apparent we wouldn’t be getting any of Iraq’s oil.
These news idiots have been hammering Chelsea since she was in high school, and they seem to always get away with it. What Schuster said truly crossed a line and Hillary is right to hold MSNBC to account. I don’t understand why it is so odd to these people that the Clinton’s daughter would work for Hillary’s campaign. I don’t remember people making these kinds of comments about Bush’s daughters or John Kerry’s daughter. Schuster probably just learned a new word and had to use it.
- Posted by Kevin>the youth are being pulled in
yea…the youth, like me I’m 30, most of the people campaigning with me in SC were 30-40 too.
The other day CNN commented that Obama was getting the youth vote and showed a picture of Marie Shriver…what’s she like 50?
Apparently anyone not a baby boomer is youth or a senior now.
Anyway, the tears.. the outrage.. really?
Do you really want a president who cries and creates drama at the drop of a hat?
Manipulation plain and simple, don’t fall for it. And did anyone else noticed that she pulled this almost immediately after Obama agreed to debate her? Coincidence? Probably not.
I don’t think she believed he would accept since it’s not strategic for him to do so. That again was just a plan to say look he won’t debate me.
My head is spinning already, reminds me of my ex-wife. I would vote for Huckabee first with Chuck Norris as vice.

>And I forgot, Hillary has already beat McCain >pretty good in Florida
Hillary won big in Florida because she campaigned there against the wishes of the party and Barack..did not, hence the vote was not split accurately.
>they say he wouldn’t of voted for the war. He wasn’t able to vote.
Techically correct but very misleading, Obama gave a speech in 2002 publicly denouncing the war, the same time Clinton was voting for it.
Even if he could not vote for it at the time, his opinion was well known.
>My African American friends agree that the media has gone nuts and is generating race problems
- Posted by NathanOk I agree with that, but their not doing it to “assist the Republicans”. Also I doubt your friends are actually from Africa. CNN/MSNBC is just doing it to stir up interest. Fox news, the guys who ARE “assisting the Republicans” have basically agreed with you that not much was said. Same as here.
This is coming from an Obama supporter: David Schuster made a very inappropriate comment. He deserves to be fired. I am so tired of the double standards in the media and in this country. Don Imus was fired for his comments merely because they were made about black girls and were “racially insensitive”. Is it OK for Schuster to be offensive because the Clintons are white? Sadly, we have gone too far the other way in this country with our political correctness.
- Posted by BeccaThe country didn’t stand for it when Imus did it and they should make light of it now.
- Posted by Donna S.David Shuster should be fired…sorry’s are to easy as Imus found out.
David Shuster deserves a raise. Making an observation which is patently true should not be grounds for the action MSNBC took. I assume they are more worried about losing a stupid debate than offering edgy commentary. Hillary Clinton would sell her child into white slavery to get power. Beware America of what you ask for.
- Posted by LarryWhy Hillary cannot defense herself and her daughet from David Shuster´mouth ?? because she is a woman and white?. I wonder if this would hapenned to a black person……..how media and people would react???
- Posted by Cecilia[…] Secondly… am I the only one who’s surprised this reference was gratuitously made on NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO? Shouldn’t they be talking about tote bags, and library cards, and begging me for money? I mean, they WERE begging me for money this morning, but the dog fighting reference came right out of left field. It was almost as random as the guy from MSNBC calling Chelsea Clinton a prostitute. […]
- Posted by Quote of the day (erm… week?) < Lead In The PipesDuring the travail of my most beloved President Clinton in the white house, after he had agreed that he lied to the nation, he said he was sorry and almost all Americans forgave him and he continued his reign without the intended impeachment. Now is also time for the Clintons to forgive a sorry journalist. Please Sister Hillary, don’t ask for David’s head because your vote had sent many innocent Americans and Iraqis to the grave. Don’t ask for his job because your endorsement of senseless war is already causing recession. —– LONG LIVE OUR FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT, LONG LIVE AMERICA “GOD’S OWN COUNTRY”
- Posted by Ben FreemanThere are some hateful people in the world, and quite a few of them have chosen to express their hate on this blog. Ugh!
- Posted by Robert M KrausI think Hillary is overreacting. Shuster brought up a legitimate point. His word choice was colorful at best, crude at worst, but the verb “pimp” is more mainstream than it used to be. Jeez, there’s even a TV show called “Pimp My Ride,” and it isn’t about prostitutes. Clinton should lighten up about Chelsea. Such protectiveness made sense during the White House years when Chelsea was just a kid, but she’s a grown-up now. If she’s gonna be out there campaigning for her mom, she better develop a thicker skin. As Mayor Harold Washington once said, politics ain’t beanbag.
- Posted by ScottLGDavid Shuster made a mistake, but he should not lose his job over it. Others have made worse mistakes. “Pimped” today means less than it did in my day. Look it up…..it means in today’s slang world “to use for one’s own gain or benefit” and that is exactly what the Clinton campaign was trying to do. Not that any thing is wrong with trying to get votes using the daughter of the candidate, but the Clinton’s have always sheltered Chelsea and when they throw her out in the public they have to expect her to draw attention and comments. Even I knew what David was trying to say and I am an old grandma. I only hope that MSNBC will not be stupid. He is a good reporter and this should not be his legacy. His reporting on the “Scooter” Libby trial was excellent reporting……….all you folks who are offended need to “get over yourselves”. You learn in the “twilight years of life that in the grand scheme of things that this doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. If you want to be righteously indignant then get upset over a war that we were lied into or the fact that the world is warming to the point of melting the artic ice, a national debt that is obscene, and the list goes on and on and on….. When the water is up to your butts and ice burgs floating by your window, you won’t give two hoots in hell what David Shuster said. Got news for you folks, we have all been pimped and not by David. Hang tough Shuster.
- Posted by PatIf you can’t stand the heat, get out of the fire.
- Posted by mikeDavid Shusters remark was not out of line at all. The term “Pimped Out” has been used in this country for many years meaining going out to do someone elses bidding. Of course Chelsea was going out to support her mom. It would be a bigger story if she didn’t campaign for her. To call for a reporters dismissal is ludacris. What is next, will Hillary cry again? Please keep the nuclear weapons button away from this unstable woman.
- Posted by Bill LoweryI agree that it was a tasteless remark and he should be called on it, but I don’t think that it was offenseive enough for Hillary to be demanding he loose his job. I think that the vast majority of Americans were much more offended by President Clinton’s getting serviced by an intern. It is funny how she is being all high and mighty about the MSNBC remark but she thinks it is alright to carry on like that when you are the leader of the free world. There are people getting fired and loosing retirement benefits over ill thought out remarks and tasteless e-mails but Bill didn’t loose a thing after his disgusting actions. If Hillary gets in office is she going to throw a fit everytime someone says something she doesn’t like.

- Posted by DebI think it is absurd that Hillary wants David Schuster to lose him job. We have so much obscene comments in politics, I think his remark was tame.
- Posted by cindyNo matter whose child she is, she deserves the respect and dignity every human being deserves. One may have beef with the Clintons but please don’t trivialize what happened. I for one would be very offended if some one said that about my daughter. As we wish to teach our children respect so we should practice what we preach. I am not sure if Mr. Schuster has any daughters but if he has he certainly did not set a good example by his misguided and imprudent utterances. He was on the bandwagon with Matthews, Carlson and Obberman and thought he could go one better. I certainly will have to consider watching MSNBC because I feel this mind-set, conduct and ultimately expression comes from the very top. These talking heads are just an exanthema of a much deeper sickness.
