WASHINGTON - When President Bush was searching for a vice presidential running mate back in 2000, he ended up picking the head of his Veep search team — Dick Cheney.
So now that John McCain is searching for his own VP running mate, Bush had some advice for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee as they appeared together in the White House Rose Garden.
“I’d tell him to be careful about who he names to be the head of the selection committee,” Bush said.
Of course he was teasing. He is a big admirer of Cheney. But that doesn’t stop him from joking about the vice president from time to time.
Bush did have some real advice as McCain picks over a fairly long list of potential running mates.
“He knows what he needs to do, which is to have a process that, you know, vets candidates. And the person, you know, it’s somebody he’s got to be comfortable with and somebody whose advice he relies upon,” Bush said.

going to Gush for advice; may be likened to going to a dried-up waterhole for water.

- Posted by breez991I’d love to see Condoleezza Rice run as vice presidential running mate. That would quickly shut down the Demo’s holier-than-thou, elect me “because” I’m a woman and elect me “because” I’m black foolishness. I’d vote for Ms. Rice because she is smart, articulate, and competent. Not because of her race or sex.
