Texas Democrats: Two steps down, one to go

DALLAS - The second step in the convoluted caucus and convention process followed by Texas Democrats wrapped up this weekend with the party’s county and Senate district conventions.

Now the final step in this three-stage process will take place at the party’s state convention in Austin June 6-7.

At stake are 67 delegates that will remain up for grabs until the June convention, which could be one of the final battles between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in their bruising fight for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton won the state’s primary and most of the 126 delegates that were on the line in that contest, but local media reports suggest that Obama is leading the long, drawn-out battle for the final 67 delegates. The Lone Star State also has 35 “superdelegates.”

Delegates can change their mind between now and the June convention, so it remains up in the air.

“This will not be determined until the June convention and so the Texas Democratic Party is not calling any winners in advance,” state party spokesman Hector Nieto said.

Why should Obama, the front runner, with more states, more delegates, more popular votes, take second place to Hillary, who lost on all counts? Isn’t it racist, sexist and ageist, to have Obama, a younger black man, take second place to Hillary, an older white woman, although she lost in every category? As a senior citizen, non-black feminist, I am appalled at this instance of injustice, which if carried out, would enter our history books as yet another black mark on our nation. Thank you, Senator Casey, for your patriotism and judgment in supporting Senator Obama’s campaign. We need to turn the page to a younger generation of politicians and voters, and you and Obama will help move our nation to a better future for all our children. We are all hoping your great state of Pennsylvania will strike for freedom from the Clinton dynasty’s money and dirt machine. Say no to Lady Hillary Macbeth and her character assassinations.

Bill and Hillary have done so much to send this country back to a time when they could relate. Race, class, and gender separations are their strengths. Their weakness is thruth, consenses and reality. If it were not good fodder for the news no one would be paying attention to her. Hillary, please explain why you and Bill are being sued in Los Angeles for ripping a donor off for $1.2 Million. The press should also explain why this is not news.

“Clinton won the state’s primary and most of the 126 delegates that were on the line in that contest…”

That statement is factually incorrect. Of the 126 delegates, Clinton won 51% or 65 delegates, Obama won 47% or 61 delegates. She did not win most of the delegates as stated, making the Texas caucus a close fight.

Senator Clinton did win the Texas Primary race, no matter how you would like to spin it. The Texas primary not only provided her with a win of the TEXAS POPULAR VOTE but also placed her in the history books by having received the largest votes ever for a nominee during the primary season.

Texas you did her proud.

Now the 2nd competition continues….the Caucus…only time will tell who the winner of that part of the competition will be.

I have to disagree….it has been Obama who has played the race card from the very beginning. He has divided this country for his own self interest and he should be ashamed.

He is not the President we need. I will vote Hillary or McCain..never Obama

How can a candidate who Monday thru Friday promotes unity, yes we can, hope, we are one….and then sneaks off on the weekends and listens to the rants of a lunatic who prmotes racism against white americans the jewish community, italians, America and the victims of 911 be trusted to run this country.

He can’t….He lied on National Television and has continued to defend his crazy pastor. We want someone that is going to defend America and all Americans…not just the black community.

I vote NO for Obama

I believe in Senator Clinton’s commitment to Universal Health Care.

I believe in Hillarys commitment to withdrawing the troops from Iraq.

I also believe she will rebuild our reputation in the world.

I believe Hillary’s four part plan to Protect American Homeowners will help families keep their homes and help communities hard hit by the housing crisis get back on their feet.

I believe in Hillary\’s plan for a second stimulus package to address the housing crisis that includes $30 billion in immediate assistance to at-risk communities and families facing foreclosure.

I believe in Hillarys commitment to AMERICA and I know she will fight for all Americans regardless of gender, ethnic background, sexual preference or faith.

Hillary is the President Americans need to restore our country\’s economy and world image….VOTE FOR HILLARY!!

This article sounds more like it’s about the convoluted voting systems that are allowed in the state to state primaries rather than the candidates running. Of course I’m sure this blog will turn into some type of character assignation, most likely against Hillary. But since the topic should be about the voting systems, I think the Democratic Party and “superdelegates” should consider the states the Hillary has won so far considering the general election and how the Electoral College works. Hillary has won states like Texas, California, and New York, New Jersey, in reality Florida and Michigan, and possibly Pennsylvania. If she was to win those states in a general election, the party would more than likely have a democrat in the White House. Don’t the “superdelegates” have a responsibility to do what is right for the party?

Speaking as a Texan: If Hillary wins the primaries, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. McBush isn’t going to change things, and Hillary just flat out scares the hell outta me. How many times is she going to misremember her past ’successes’?

I just don’t trust that woman.

Pat is correct. While Clinton won the popular vote in Texas, Obama has won the delegate vote to date and will win this final convention stage, so overall he’ll come out of Texas with quite a large delegate lead - a win.

It is a cup of clinton koolaide that says the big States are All that is important..think past this to realise that the big states would vote Democratic ANYWAY. They go Dem the majority of time. Now the others states, which have been dismissed by clinton, are cross over and have gone overwhelmingly to Obama. The trend being that we dems could see great support and votes in these states. As a consequence the nation would be MORE UNIFIED by OBAMA and less dependent on the division of red state/blue state… That is the good news.
The bad news is that clintons’ ‘win at any cost’ will bring out repubs in great numbers- keep the nation divided because her supporters are reality challenged and willfuly ignorant, as is their candidate.

Pat learn to read, the statement made is totally correct.
“Clinton won the state’s primary and most of the 126 delegates that were on the line in that contest”

You numbers you quote even prove the statement is correct since they do add up to 126.

Agreed lin. If this happens, we should all come out and protest. The Clintons have done more damage to the party than anyone ever has, over the past century - just when we were moving forward. These are people who would even do harm to their mothers in order to move ahead for the sake of personal ambition. You know that they have no morality and in the end they are just empowering the republicans. It is no wonder they are know as “self-destructors”. No legacy to speak of and people will remember them with disdain. If the republicans get a third Bush term you have to thank the Clintons for that.

She lied about Bosnia. Blamed innocent and hospitable people, and projected them as terrorists. If she is president, the terror busines will be shoved down our throats, more money on terrorism, bankruptcy!!!

- Posted by sachin

No Terry, YOU are wrong. Pat is correct. The numbers are close, so Clinton did not win ‘most of the delegates’ (that statement is incorrect, unless you consider 6 delegates a whopping landslide win!). You should learn to read. It is going to be a close fight, with the caucus count underway.

Its a tough choice for Democrats. They get to pick between a great candidate and a great candidate.

contrast this to the GOP, who now have a frontrunner who was bought out by the lobbyists, was one of the Keating Five in the S&L crisis and was apparently involved in a sex scandal to boot. He also foolishly supports Bush’s miserable policies despite Bush being essentially persona non grata worldwide and fast becoming the worst president in history, even beating out such morons like Herbert Hoover and Andrew Jackson.

Indeed, Clinton is like Rocky!

She keeps getting beat up by both Democratic back stabbers and the news media alike. We have realized that Clinton lied about her Bosnia trip, but we also know that Obama has lied about:

1) his relationship with the LUNETIC RACIST Rev. Wright
2) his involvment with the crook Tony Rezko
3) his association with the self-proclaimed Pentagon TERRORIST William C. Ayers
4) his note about his father’s arrival in the US due to Kennedy
5) his taking hundreds of thousands of $$$$$$$$$$$ from lobyists

WHAT IS IT GONG TO TAKE FOR AMERICA TO FIGURE OUT OBAMA IS A RACIST, BIGGOT, AND ANTI-SEMITIC?

DO WE HAVE TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID WITIH GEORGE BUSH?

REMEMBER IF WE HAD SLECTED GORE, WE WOULD NOT BE IN THE IRAQ MESS?

Come on people, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need someone like Hillary to fight for us the same way she is fighing for the nomination.

These Super Delegates are making a BIG MISTAKE Imagine an American Muslim Imam spewing out his hate speech in a Mosque in our country, oh yes, double standards, the Imam might be in Guantanamo by day’s end!

Consequences for Hate America political speeches by a pastor of a tax exempt church????
Something is radically wrong here a U.S Senator lies about his knowledge of the same, and all the Congress members, like a flock of sheep, line up to endorse his candidacy for the PRESIDENCY.

Neither the Senator NOR the Congressional sheep demand an IRS investigation of well publicized and viewed by the world a clear violation of that tax exempt status for his political speeches! And for a continuation of the same, note the new pastor’s Easter sermon Otis Moss, ( You Tube) in which he elevates Wright to a martyr status. He compares Jesus’ crucifixion to Wright’s LYNCHING…yes, LYNCHING. He uses the term 25 times in 5-6 minutes in fact!

This is OUR America, OUR White House, OUR flag, OUR 4,000+ hero’s and heroines dying to preserve our safety and freedoms.

By the TIME SUPER DELEGATES ARE FINISHED ENDORSING Obama THEY WILL HAVE COMMITED POLITICAL SUISIDE.
