Obama’s presidential seal was for ‘one-time use’

obama.jpgALBUQUERQUE - Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is retiring a presidential seal that made its debut at a Chicago event last week.

“It was a one-time seal for a one-time use,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. The seal, which resembled the official presidential seal, had a picture of a bald eagle on it. A phrase inscribed above it read “Vero Possumus,” a Latin expression that roughly translates to the campaign’s slogan, “Yes, we can.”

The seal helped complete a presidential-looking setting as Obama sat at the head of a U-shaped table with Democratic governors in a stately hall of a Chicago museum. In addition to the seal on the podium, blue curtains adorned the backdrop along with a row of flags.

Our earlier blog post on the Obama seal posted on Friday prompted mixed reviews from readers. Some liked the seal and thought the Latin expression was clever. Others thought it conveyed a penchant for image over substance.

Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic.com said there were second thoughts about the blog at Obama’s campaign headquarters.

“The worry for Obama’s image managers is that it gives the press a pretext to call Obama arrogant, an example for them to add to a list of arrogant moments, and a way to distract them from what Obama is saying,” Ambinder wrote in his blog.

Well, well — when I saw that Obama changed an official government seal into a cartoon ad, I predicted that he would drop it in three days. After bloggers Left and Right, told him it was offensive, he dropped it in one day. He never should have used it at all. Has this guy no common sense? Will he change the American flag into a cartoon? Isn’t it enough that he says things that show he has no understanding of American history? He is so scary.

When it was so prominately displayed for the first time on his website, there was no mention of it being intended for a “one time use”. If it hadn’t received so much negative attention, he’d have used it all the way to election day.

Arrogant? Obama? He’s too busy ordering around people like the Secretary of Defense to be arrogant!

Creating this “mock” presidential seal is just one more look into obama’s arrogance and sense of superiority.
Better be careful, barack, your real personality you work so hard to keep covered up is showing!

Everybody talks about how dirty and negative politics and Washington has become. But it seems that it’s not just Washington, but the whole of America. Here we are in a critical election year, and people are arguing over irrelevant crap like this? Not ‘evil Washington,’ but average American people are constantly focusing on made-up character issues that have nothing to do with what the person will do as President. It’s not fair for either candidate. Too much attention is being placed on little things like this. When did America forget about the important issues?

That was a display of presumpsion that tells a lot about a person.

I thought we still had an election to run? The last time I checked we could not just crown a president. We kind of fought a long hard war back in the day to ensure we got a voice. Then a while latter an other one to ensure all people of all races got a say. I think the Senator forgot this ideal some place. While it is not the real presidential seal it looks convicing enough to be offensive to those of us who would still like a chance to vote. A little humility in a canidate might be nice. I am thinking maybe I might just reconsider my vote. We had enough of arrogance in a President. Eight years of it was more enough. We do not need a repeat. Senator Obama is as arrogaunt as the current office holder. Enough already.

Arrogance bespeaks of Insecurity. As does the need for blind support, fanaticism, and constant reassurance that You Are THE ONE and We Are Who We Have Been Waiting For.

What a window not only into the man but into his campaign. I have been uneasy all along by the campaign tactics and this, among other things since he finally has the Hillary Thorn removed from his side, has confirmed my impressions.

It is unfortunate and a tragedy that, perhaps the most well adjusted and well prepared and well equipped person to lead the country is out of the race. We are left with one who can whip people in to a fanatical frenzy and nothing much else and one who stumbles along in a campaign and whose party base cannot get excited enough because he is not “churchey” or fanatic enough. At least the latter has a level of maturity and I have not noticed an enlarged ego or gross insecurities. He has an uncanny knack of calling a spade a spade and I do believe he will not have a problem seeking advise and consent in office. I hate to see him “pandering” but, you know what, I want him in office so badly that I can live with it. I believe once in office he will seek consensus and lead effectively for 4 years. Yes, it boils down to 1)experience, record, competence and 2)personality, mental health, authenticity, relationships, what has formed the person. To the argument that a Hillary supporter cannot possibly find anything comparable in John McCain I say this: there is nothing more critical to me than voting rights and fair elections. All else comes from that. And that has been tossed aside by the Democratic Party, so, I must choose from what is left and, of the two, though he does not come close to my chosen candidate, he is the safer of the two.
Next week, we will be introduced to the Obama salute….

It seem like Obama guy is easy to manipulates, someone created a seal for him to used and he went for it, no point’s taken at all. After $#!^ hit the fan, and there is excuse –go figured. Well, maybe I (as tax payer) can create my own seal too, how pitiful. Only in U.S.A

Official talking points team memo #157: How to discuss “Sealgate”

This is going to be another arrogant imagery vehicle. Be sure to emphasis the terms “arrogant” and “arrogance” in your writing, while stressing how a little more “humility” is needed.

Other good euphemisms we would like to implant are “Superior” and “offensive.”

Be sure to come across as a self respecting patriotic American who cares more about imagery than any campaign issues. Adding a democrat is a nice touch too, a voter reconsidering his support over this outrage is a powerful weapon that must be exploited in ANY comment section take-over.

Remember, you are DEEPLY OFFENDED at this egregious outrage against our nation! Nobody cares if nobody is angry. Just don’t go overboard like people did in the “Obama/Osama” campaign, which violates tenet 47: Excess means no access. A tempered and tacit outrage is the current best practice on your posting tone.

Use several accounts if you must, it is important that we give the appearance of a massive outpouring of anger to get this issue traction with the press. As we all know the most effective way is to flood any channels of reaction to the story that you can find so POST POST POST!

I agree with most of the comments that Obama is desplaying signs we may wish we never saw if he wins the election. I think his agressiveness will give us all some real “I wish we hadn’t” after the election. He doesn’t understand how the public operates and how the government functions. Three years as a Senator and two of them campaigning, rather than doing the job he is paid for, doesn’t really qualify him for the highest office in the nation. He talks the talk but can’t walk the walk.

Another non issue brought to you by the fine people at barackisntwearingaflagpin.com. It would be very interesting to see what issues shape your decision in the election in November. You know, i watched McCain speak in front of a bright green background not too long ago, and i wasn’t pouting on message boards calling McCain “envious” because of it. Why don’t we analyze what these people are saying instead of their clothing, accessories, and set designs.

Gas is at $4 gallon. We are in a war over oil. Haliburton is still getting no bid contracts. Our energy policy was designed by the companies reaping record profits. The current administration got 80% of its campaign funds from oil and gas companies. We have no future energy policy other than to keep buying oil.

And you loathe a plaque? Hmmm.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Has anyone here so upset by a picture noticed that McCain’s web site is a copy of the Obama logo?

Won’t be long before Johnny copies the seal idea.

Mr. Obama is treating this like a movie script. I don’t think he’s really serious about what being president is all about. It’s begining to sound like a “Animal House II” movie. Perhaps he’s too young to run for this office.

Why is this non-issue an issue? What if a Republican presumtive nominee were to have made us such a sign? Would it still be a non-issue then? I think not.

The only thing that I am bummed about is that he is using the political spin of saying it was for “one time use” to CYA. I am a Barack supporter, and for those that say he is “scary” or has “no understanding of American history,” spend some time reading “Audacity of Hope” rather than listen to Sean Hannity for your opinion of the man.

- Posted by Stan

Do any of you even think that he had anything to do with the faux-presidential seal? I can’t imagine that any presidential candidate would be concerned about the decorations for a stop on the trail. He has underlings who deal with that, and is underlings screwed up. At least they did the right thing and stopped ASAP.

He listened to people when they are upset by it. That’s more than I can say for a President that would “stay course” or arrogantly say, “Mission Accomplished.” I cannot bear having another Republican president that have such ridiculous agendas without listening to the people.

- Posted by DavyG

This goes to show you the inexperience he and his “advisers” could bring to the office of the president. Obama simply doesn’t have enough experience nor tack (per this example) to navigate the critical waters ahead. I’m not a huge fan of McCain’s middle of the road policies, but I’ll take his proven abilities to serve our country as president over Obama’s “change for change sake” mentality any day.

My fellow Americans, lend me your ears and your common sense. As we get closer to the November election, we can expect both candidates to attack each other on such meaningless issues such as this. Let’s put our mind to work and allow our loyalty to the party to take a back seat. First, let’s ask the questions. What are the most important issues facing us? The economy, energy, health care, education, homeland security and our retirements. How do we stimulate the economy? More taxes on everything we do and buy? What do we do about energy? My God, haven’t we learn from the 70’s, we should have drilled for more oil back then , instead of waiting until now. Of course drilling won’t help us today or tomorrow, but then again what other viable options do we have? What are the consequences if we don’t do anything. Do we place a windfall tax on the oil companies? Now think about it, do you think the companies are really going to be hit hard from that (if that is the intention) of course not, they will just pass that along to guess who, that’s right….you and I. A tax break for the summer on gas? I don’t think so. This country needs that money it generates in taxes. Any real alternative is years away. Let’s not kid ourselves thinking we could grow ethanol. Have you wondered why the amazon is disappearing? Growing that does more harm than good. It also cost more to produce and will also create an increase in corn prices (haven’t we seen this lately) I am all for a cleaner environment but we are a society that greatly depends on the oil. Now let’s talk about health care. First let’s take a look at out current system and compare it to what many have proposed, a system more like Canada’s or Europe’s. We should investigate how long on average would we have to wait for emergency care, what will the doctors be able or unable to do for us and how will it be paid for…Oh I know, raise taxes. Education, folks while the rest of the world gets smarter and spends less on education, we are still trying to figure out what to do. Most of the money from our lotteries go to funding education, How is it really being spent? Most of that money goes to salaries of those who have nothing to do with your child’s day to day education. Teachers are not being paid their fair share. Homeland security…let’s take a look at both candidates. One wants to talk to terrorist leaders and try to negotiate with them. The other wants to stay in Iraq and fight for 100 years. At some point, the Iraqi people and government will have to have a change in their wayss to one of hope, acceptance and unity for a single cause…peace. Folks if we make it easier for companies to do business here in the United States they will stay but at the same time we must protect their retirements. Now I leave you with this final question. Who do you want for your president another 4 years of Bush or the reincarnation of the peanut farmer, Mr. Carter?????

- Posted by one who turn away

Has anyone noticed that the individuals who are for Senator Obama have to critize anyone who criticizes him. We are talking about a man running for the presidency of the United States.

If Senator Obama is as “all being” as his supporters claim him to be then why do they not fight the criticisms from the “non-believers” with statements of fact about why it would be good to do what he has done. Instead of saying that he is being so unfairly / childishly / [insert any negative adjective] critiqued. Stand up and say - Its wrong for anyone to critcize Senator Obama for creating a seal the way he did and posing with it in a setting that imitates that of the President of the United States. It was smart of him for doing such a thing because [Fill In The Blank Here]. The potential gain of his action was [Fill In The Blank] and the risk of doing the same was [Fill In The Blank]

But then again, if they tried to argue the merits i that way, they would either have to sit quietly in the corner because there is nothing to argue or look like fools arguing against commen sense and inteligence. So instead they use sarcasm to try to minimize the impact of the criticisms or they try to shine the light somewhere else and discount these feelings as getting all riled up over nothing.

Argue the merits… One poster calls this getting “riled over the stupidest things”… I’ll tell you what… The President of the United States has to THINK about what WOULD rile people up. Think about what most Americans would consider to be silly things that have to be done right when dealing with / courting other other countries both in the diplomatic and strategic realms.

Right now… the citizens of the United States are the ones he is dealing with / courting in both the diplomatic and strategic realms and from the sounds of it he’s not doing such a hot job of it. Now who up for letting this guy handle China or North Korea the way he’s handling things right now with the voters??? NOT ME!

It was a smart marketing move. Unfortunately, some did not think so. Much a do about nothing. That said, Obama and his campaign managers should pay attention to the little details that can easily be overblown. They should not put Obama in a position where he has to constantly explain himself or make excuses. You know, like the bittergate affair which cost him votes or Michelle’s “…love country …” story. If these blips keep on happening, it can cost Obama the election. Good luck to Obama and Michelle. I look forward to a President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Keep up the good work - but beware - McCain is a tough competitor.

It’s quite funny how childish some of us Americans can be. We jump on Obama for using a mostly symbolic and otherwise meaningless image, whereas many people encourage rumors about Obama’s religion (he’s a Muslim! Barack HUSSEIN Obama! His name sounds like Osama!) and downright slander, whereas they cringe when something so completely irrelevant to the election (like this) happens.

Please, grow up. Realize that almost all of the negative propaganda and all the false rumors have been focused on Democratic candidates, whether Hillary or Obama, while McCain’s mistakes are never pointed out! McCain has showed that he has almost no knowledge of the Constitution (in the case with Guantanamo, that he wants to reserve the habeas corpus right just to Americans, and not to every human being, as outlined in the Constitution) yet we actually see people PRAISING him for such ridiculous views. Learn the basic tenets of your government and learn to actually focus on relevant issues before slandering political candidates for useless crap like this.

Every word that Obama or Michelle say will be analyzed under a microscope, they know this so they should be extra careful. While I’m at it, Michelle should pay attention to her dress-code - she should dress more like a First Lady. She is not trying to be the sexiest woman in America. Sometimes her dress-code is a 10/10 other times it is a 3/10. Michelle, appearance matter just like words matter.

Roger G - what nonsense. One could not run for president and not be without ego. Some staffer came up with a corny idea and Obama fell for it once. Big deal. W has fallen for things that have led to people’s deaths and billions of dollars for destruction. The question is whether one’s ego is balanced and what drives that ego. Frankly, after 8 years of W’s stupidity and lack of aesthetics of all stripes, this is just another same ol’ right-wing he said-she said innuendo and distraction that doesn’t mean squat.

However, it seems that some of the comments are just short of “so let’s kill him.”

- Posted by Bruce in Colorado

I think it is disturbing that people get disturbed by public images but at the same time, it does say a lot about Obama’s character as stated by a few others. A big problem with Obama for me is his stance on Osama bin Laden. As a military wife, I think it is deplorable that he thinks Osama deserves access to the civilian court system. Osama only deserves execution…period.

Democrats should have never selected such an inexperienced politician. Experience includes working and making your contribution, and he has done neither. He wants to placed himself at the top without walking up a single step.

- Posted by Dude

That is really embarrassing, Mr. & Mrs. Reader.

I’ve said more than once that this election is Mr. Obama’s to give to Mr. McCain.

If he lets his staff do any more stupid stuff like this, that’s exactly what could happen.

As they say, “What was the man thinking?”

A man who could be the President of the United States of America does not use a “fake” presidential setting for any reason. I’ll give Mr. Obama a break on the flags. However, the “fake seal” was really stupid.

OK Jack

P.S. The good think about supporting Mr. Obama is that when he does something stupid, one feels as though he can take the criticism of telling him so. This is a far cry from what we’ve been through for the past almost eight long and dreary (and stupidly wasted) years.

We as American are loosing our sense of humor. We have become so sensitive that little things hurt our feelings. Most of the haters are the so-called hypocritical conservatives who with bible in one hand and white-collar pen and paper criminal in another hand.

I do not see any arrogance in Obama or McCain. I cannot even listen to talk radio in Texas where the so called lip serving conservative talk jokeys espouse hatred for half of America just because they happen to identify themselves to be Democrats or liberals. Most Republicans and their pretentious conservatives will be willing to go to bed with the same people that Bush said will kill us all as long as they support the Republican ideology.

These are the same people who wanted to have a constitutional amendment to allow Arnold Swatznigger of California to run for president, even when he Arnold is more liberal than anybody you can find in the Democratic Party.

You guys should see beyond rhetorics of being manipulated by the so called conservatives. These people are not conservatives, they preying on the trusting gullible American patriotism for their selfish interest.

Whether you are for Obama or McCain, listen to your candidate’s messages and refrain from being controlled by radio millionaires who are using us for their selfish gains. I call them “RADIO SALESMEN”, all they are doing is to sale you a product by monopolizing on your love for America.

- Posted by J. Emeka

What this may prove is that Barak Obama does not have control over his campaign. Advisers he appointed should have caught the problem presented by the seal before it ever saw light. By this time he should have a trusted team who knows which ideas should be pushed forward and used and which ones to axe. And if his website goes forward with ideas without getting them vetted by his advisers then the website team should be fired for putting him in an untenable position.

Politics is business people, and at this level you don’t get to make stupid mistakes like this.

- Posted by Carole Clarke

this is a non issue. of coarse obama’s a politician trying to win an election. the seal was an obvious attempt to make obama look presidential, and get voters used to (and therefore unaffraid) of him as president. every candidate does what he can to appear presidential, obama went a bit farther because in poll after poll his biggest weakness in the election is people fear he might not be ready to be comander in cheif. this was obviously a sight gag put in place to alieve those fears. silly, yes. big deal, no. its not a sign of arrogance or anything else, it was just a politician being a politician, and trying to create a powerful image of himself.

Our country is like a driver falling asleep at the wheel. First veer off into one ditch, then wakes up long enough to overcorrect and plow into the ditch on the other side of the road. Let’s just cool it and start driving straight down the road. There are far too many problems staring us in the face to be indulging in narcissistic personalities.

Just not good here - Obama and Bush are flip sides of the same coin. Very, very scary.

In Latin, E Pluribus Unum means ‘Out of many, One.’ Or as you can rephrase it: ‘We’re in this all together.’
What’s wrong with that? One Heart. One Soul. One Love. One Peace. One Freedom. One vision. Abraham Lincoln said it best, “United we stand, diveded we fall.” One America. People who come to America, and yet refuse to learn English, are dividing the USA. Obama using “Vero Possumus,” a Latin expression roughly translating to the campaign’s slogan, “Yes, we can” - is not uniting the USA, but saying,”Anything goes.” Rome, in its debauchery, fell. Today the once great Roman empire is a city on a hill. A legend of another time. Is this Obama’s vision?

- Posted by B

It feels great to hear people call Obama arrogant, high-minded and a host of other names usually leveled against white males of power and connections. Maybe America is changing when I remember being called “kid” and “boy”, which was a term often used against even professional black males.
The Senator is merely caught-up in the glow of the spotlights after so many decades of darkness. He’s like other newly powerful black men who are in a learning curve and will transform his public image much the same as all newly powerful men in his generation.
It shows also, that there are plenty of people out there who will ensure that Obama “stays in his place” and not take for granted those that will be wishing for the ole days: when whites were “Missah” and “Massah”.
I am gleeful in anticipation when he does something really “presidential” like not pardon the current President of War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity!

I was going to vote for Obama until I read this article. This is an absolute outrage. It is hard to fathom that a presidential candidate would knowingly stand in front of a blue curtain. And to think that there was a picture of a bald eagle on the podium too. I just get creepy chills thinking about it.

Before everything, I am a politically (and otherwise, too) independent person! As to the blown-out-proportion attacks I, respectfully, ask my fello Americans:
Are we expecting to find and elect an infallible, a kind of American Pope as our President or we accept that presidential candidates are a humane beings, and may (and do) make irritating mistakes. What is more, their coworkers do, too. Why is it not a big deal that a McCain staff member almost invites a terrorist attack to help McCain chances? Why is it not a big deal (for those who want the head of Mr. Obamas for every mistakes, real or not) that Mr. McCain wraps himself almost always in American flags, wears a cap reminding mysteriously that of the Commander in Chief, shines among soldiers in Iraq while carefully “choreographing out” of the picture the heavily-armed protecting units, and parades with veterans, policemen, and fire fighters?
Those we who happen not to wear uniform(s) in their life ARE AT LEAST EQUALLY PATRIOTIC, (may be even more) HONEST, PRODUCTIVE, and CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF OUR SOCIETY … MANY OF US WITH COMPARABLE IF NOT BETTER LEADERSHIP QUALITIES. Let us not fetishize people in uniform, nor let us those who run for political office use people in uniform as Troyan horse to gain undeserved advantage.

I have a SOLUTION that will work and put the POWER back with the
PEOPLE:

We need something like Operation Chaos to continue and this is how it
will work.

Democrats not Happy with Obama WRITE-IN Hillary.
Republicans Not Happy with McCain WRITE-IN Romney.

This will split both parties votes which is fair and may the BEST
person win. This WILL WORK let’s PROMOTE IT and get the VOTE back to
the People and away from the MEDIA and 527’s.

Republicans WRITE-IN ROMNEY.

Democrats WRITE-IN HILLARY.

Vero Possumus, Reintroduces “Yes We Can” as a self evident truth of “e pluribus unm” (out of many, one). It was a good touch and sent everyone back to reread their 5th grade history books which is good thing.

I don’t see what the deal is, whatsoever. The seal was intended to help complete a presidential looking setting at the Chicago event, and that is exactly what it did. Now, there is backlash for it. That’s an unfair damned if you do- damned if you don’t set of criteria there. As Obama tries to craft a message with imagery that he is capable of handling the presidency, there is criticism that he is too arrogant. And yet, if he went without trying to make that claim, this very news article would instead be about a poll showing many think that he’s too inexperienced for presidency.

Many of these reactions are scarcely believable and sound like a charade. If use of imagery and symbolism is a voting issue in place of stances on policies, there is something seriously wrong with the way things work. Thankfully, I can’t say I know a single person in real life that would be offended by such a trivial thing and weigh it above their actual stances on real issues.

Obama believes that bad attention is better than no attention. He is a limelight seeker. He will be a worthless President if elected.

He has plenty of “diversions” to throw in front of the public so no one looks at his hair brained policies and votes.

He wants to TAX every dollar earned to put into SSI funds.
Obama will remove the current cap set at $97,000 and tax at 12% every dollar earned above that. What an incentive to hide earnings or go to the off the books economy.

- Posted by pat

The seal was a gesture to the “change” crowd that wants something for nothing.

Cheesey ideas appeal to folks who don’t care that Obama has sold out to special interests like ConAgra, Archer Daniels Midland & the ethanol from corn lobby. Obama loves agribusiness corn for cars. Obama is for global warming from burning ethanol but against clean nuclear power like the Japanese.

Declaration of Independence… Do you remember the meaning..

The meaning of a people Separated by difference. But united by one thing.. A demand for change, A demand OF the American People. A demand that MEN AND WOMEN have fought and DIED for of ALL RACES AND RELIGION.

When will you Stop Bickering over Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation and Country of You’re Ancestors!

Were ALL Americans, One Created EQUAL and Separated by NONE.

A seal, A Campaign Joke!? HAH! its been done since the 1800 Hundreds… Did you forget that are own 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, Used Similar Designs During his Campaign?

Dont Judge a book by its Cover, Dont Judge a man By his face, Judge a Mans Promise BY HIS CREED!

- Posted by MNovick

I think Obama was planning to use that seal all the way to the White House. The change of the words on the seal were to please Louis Farrahkan who has been critical of “E Pluribus Unum” (”Out of many, one”). Obama didn’t mispeak when he said 57 states. The Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is an international organization with a permanent delegation to the United Nations. It groups 57 Islamic member states, from the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkan, Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America.

“I was going to vote for Obama until I read this article. This is an absolute outrage. It is hard to fathom that a presidential candidate would knowingly stand in front of a blue curtain. And to think that there was a picture of a bald eagle on the podium too. I just get creepy chills thinking about it.”

I’m doubting anyone who was going to vote for someone would change their minds based on this article. This sounds a little crazy to me. You get chills? Really? Perhaps this is one of those staffed McCain bloggers that people are talking about.

Hey davo,

Yeah, gas was $1.46 a gallon when Bush took office and over the next six years until January 2007, it increased to $2.16 a gallon, a 48% increase - pretty big. In the last year and a half since Pelosi and crew took over Congress, in has increased to $4.10 a gallon, a 90% increase!! You’ll blame Bush, Halliburton, the war, etc. as you libs always do without actually being able to explain why, and you’ll continue to ignore the fact that the speculators responsible for the price increases are buying and selling futures contracts specifically on anticipated conditions. When lefties like you take office, that means they expect lower supplies and even higher punitive taxes. This is what drives the price up. So, thank you and your socialist pals for your moral superiority on stopping a non-existent threat to a couple fish for nearly doubling the cost of my commute.

- Posted by Matt

I can’t believe all the nonsense over this. We have thousands of people flooded out of their homes, millions living in poverty and starvation right here in this fine country, and you are channeling your outrage at a set decoration??? You need to step back and think about where to channel all this energy. At any rate, this seal was probably the brainchild of young staffers who found the concept clever. I’m sure I’d rather Senator Obama focus on developing his energy policy and economic policy rather than micromanaging logo development.

Kind of thing you expect from a leader in a BANANA REPUBLIC, not America.

- Posted by GuK

Boy there sure is a lot of anti-Obama astro-turfing here. How many people actually responded to this story, six? And together they martialed three distinct opinions.

- Posted by blinker

So Obama is “arrogant” because some stupid “image expert” comes up with a riduculous seal. Its really no different than the infamous green background they put behind McCain. I do find the use of the word “arrogant” interesting. Back in the day, a Black man who was better educated than his critics was called “uppity”. But if you guys want to go with arrogant, its all good. Your expanded vocabularies show that “No Child Left Behind” works for someone. :)

- Posted by JJ

For those who think this sort of thing is small - if he is THAT arrogant during a campaign…can you imagine what he will do as President? The guy isn’t in the right place in his life to be at that level. Maybe if he does what he was hired to do to begin with rather than let that pretty much go by the wayside, he would get more respect. I’m not going to throw the Muslim card in - that is getting old and we all know the truth on that - but if and his kool aid drinking numb skull bobbleheads think he’s the agent for change - PUHLEEZE!! And anytime I ask someone I know who is voting for him (which is hard to find here) about his “change” - they start insulting republicans and McCain…just makes me laugh. I have found many people who WERE voting for this self-appointed guru to the weak and now that ARE NOT voting for him so he is starting to lose his “lustre”. There never was lustre for this voter…only hot air, smoke and mirrors.

- Posted by cindy

Oh Cindy, Cindy… calm down will you? You throw around insults like they’re going out of fashion and yet can’t stand it when the other side does the same thing. Railing against arrogance now are we? Wow - I’m really laughing at that one. Give me a presidential candidate who doesn’t possess a degree of arrogance and I’ll give you someone who doesn’t possess the toughness to be president. They’re all arrogant, Cindy. That’s how they’ve made it that far!

If you can not trust a man in smalls matter than you certainly can not trust him in larger matters such as President of our country. No doubt Obama is a front for the Muslims. If this man wants to kill babies born and unborn then what makes you think he will stop there? We are living in a severe culture of death that can not even recognize any form of evil anymore. How sad! God will deliver us up to our passions if we don’t change radically to live the 10 commandments in our lives as well as showing more love towards our neighbors. Pray, pray, pray. mar

I am wondering if Rev. Wright had held his performance several months earlier, if Mr. “O” would be the presumtive democratic candidate at all. I believe he has been arrogant from the beginning. He is vague when our country needs substance. He is a dog and pony show created by the DNC and the biased media.

He doesn’t understand the average working or middle class Americans burdened with issues such as putting ever incresing costs of food on the table for our families, the costs of soaring fuel, health ins, and seniors on small fixed incomes. What about young people holding down several jobs to try and get by. Is this the American dream?

To use a copy of the Presidential seal is beyond using poor sense. Not even once. I heard on CNN that he could be jailed for 6 months for that dislay.

In my opinion, he co-opted Hillary’s platform, flip flops now on issues (what is in store for us later)? This comes back to the primaries and the DNC. My state was one of the last ones to vote.

Why are superdelegates allowed to endorce a candidate prior to all primaries being completed? The popular vote was nearly even. This certainly gives me a lot to think about as to why “O” was chosen. A massive failure from the DNC and much biased media.

I agree with “Reality Check” posted 6/24. For the first time in my life I believe in write in candidates. I understand that our votes would not count unless each candidate files papers in those states that require it.

Wow, this is almost as bad as that political party which has tried to make our nation’s flag into their exclusive symbol.

You know, all those “flag stickers” on truck bumpers (often dirty or covered in mud or road grime, wow, the way the flag was ‘meant to be respected’). Those SUVs that pump money into the Mid-East, to support all of our nation’s friends, you know, the terroris– er, um, I mean the “PRE-democracy nations”, who spend our gasoline money on better and better “uncle Sam” effigies to burn in their streets.

I mean if this is about arrogance, Obama’s childish seal is *far* more destructive than a Mid-east supporting SUV with a mud stained American flag on the bumper. Symbolism is far more important than reality. Isn’t it? Well … isn’t it?!

Why has no one mentioned “1600 for Men” toiletries? I would think that is enough to prove that the presidential seal is not a holy icon. And that’s the real seal, under license. There are countless other government agencies and commercial businesses with similar-but-not-the-same emblems.

- Posted by Stewart

I don’t believe arrogant is the appropriate term to describe his behavior. He’s not arrogant, he is handled. His people tell him where to stand, what to say, how to dress and which baby to kiss. We as a society know that we do not elect individuals anymore, we elect committees. We elect a group. I’ve been a Democrat since I first registered to vote. I’ve been a proud member of a party that has supported the working class and has given opportunities to the underprivileged. That being said, can I vote for Obama? The answer to that question is no. Is it because he doesn’t wear a flag pin, or doesn’t support our National Anthem, or even that he has a mock Presidential seal at one of his appearances? No, it’s not any one of these things; it’s all of these things, and many more. How can I support a president who first and foremost doesn’t even act proud to be an American? Shouldn’t he be the one singing our National Anthem the loudest or wanting to wear the biggest American flag pin because he is so proud of this country that he wants everyone to know he’s an American? How can I in good conscience vote for a president that actually seems to be ashamed of the country that he is trying to become president of?

- Posted by Juanita

The over concern about his image brought about the need to set up little scenes to infer presidential qualities, to distract from the fact that there are few if any actual presidential type actions in his resume.

It’s all fluff folks. Do yourself a favor and admit you may have been wrong about this guy before it’s too late and we all pay the price for your ignorance.

The object is the “Seal of the President of the United States”. It should be revered! A person who is seeking to be the leader of this country should have total loyalty and respect for the seals, symbols, flags and most importantly, the constitution of the United States of America. They should pledge allegiance to THIS COUNTRY. I don’t care if they don’t wear a pin, but they better show respect to our flag and adhere to long standing protocol. They should be seeking to get back to the roots of this country. We are on the verge of collapse as a nation. We need someone with the courage and strength to return America to what once was. It can’t be all about gross profits for companies, either. We have been sold out by corporate America for profits. What happens when those other countries raise wages and prices and we are paying even more and have no base of employment here. What happened to loyalty? We need an American with Christian morals and values. We can respect other religions and cultures, but America was founded on Christian virtues and as an English speaking nation. Those are the things that made America great.

- Posted by Jane

How different this is from Bush’s wonderful MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner that at first they said the sailors put up before they finally admitted they’d lied: they put it up themselves for the Bush glory.

And kept families from seeing their returning loved ones for hours while lil Napolean Bush lauded himself and said how wonderful he is.

5 years later he the mission has NOT been accomplished.

And some million Iraqis are dead and there are 4.9 million Iraqi refugees, the most educated of all who are leaving ethnic cleansing and SHARIA LAW that Saddam prevented while killing far far fewer people than Bush’s FEELS GOOD! BRING’ ‘EM (terrorists) ON war crimes.

Bush recently apologized for the BRING ‘EM ON invitation to al Qaeda to kill innocents. Too late. Far far far too late. He should be in Gitmo and waterboarded. AFter all he says waterboarding is not torture.

- Posted by Heather Rose

Barak Opossum fully intended to use that seal for more than one use , and it is arrogant. It reveals someone who takes themselves so seriously they cannot see what might be found humorous or offensive by someone else . That would be disastrous in a president. Wait , we already have a president exactly like that…

- Posted by Swannie

Let’s not fool ourselves, I’m reading some of these comments and I find the only ones that are calling Obama’s campaign seal an act of arrogance are those who don’t like him to begin with and are just whining at anything the press spotlights about him because they’re selfish idiots. Yes I called you Obama haters idiots, and when your candidate McCain loses in November, you’re going feel like the bottom of the barrel when Obama gets the real official seal.

[I think] The rebulicans are trying to use it to point out that they think this guy will socialize the US while the democrates seem to just shrug it all aside and say ‘he’s an agent of change’.

Really, are we sheep, Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, those who founded this little coutry with a ill trained army had the ARROGANCE TO SAY YES WE CAN, AND DID….USA ROCKS

- Posted by Agnes

We all need to get used to seeing Obama behind the presidential seal, this was just a little sample of what we will be seeing for the next four (hopefully) eight years, as for the arrogance and elitist stamp he has gotten, if you think you have the material to be in charge of 300 million-plus people, you ARE elitist, that goes for Clinton, McCain, Nader, Barr and all the others,
On another topic, You guys talk about this election as if mud-slinging, cutthroat politics are a new thing, every damn election this back and forth stuff happens, it just so happens that it’s more evident this time because the candidates are racially and demographically opposites, the fact that Hillary and Barack are now getting along after a grueling primary process is something that anybody even remotely familiar with politics should have seen coming. The Hillary supporters who now swear to McCain because their flawed candidate couldn’t run a campaign need to take a long look at themselves and ask, “am I really that selfish?” I personally detest HRC but for the future of this country and THE WORLD, I am grateful for her support, wish I could say the same for her cohorts.

To JBDSM - This above post is called sarcasm. Quite funny actually - kudos! And quite what I feel like posting when I read all this. This is such a non-issue. If we really want to talk about making poor public image choices, lets look at Bush’s choices over the last 8 years and wonder why his popularity rating is so low. Can’t be from making choices the public has appreciated. Hmmm….I guess making poor public image choices comes with the territory and some (Bush) are much better at it than others.

Quote of the Day……..’My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.

– Barack Obama

Why if WE are the greatest nation do WE need to change it? (and like WE are going to have a say)

I think Obama is in it for himself

People are so lame, people seem to believe what ever they want to hear, and that is all. PEOPLE remember where our freedoms came from and remember that is the ONLY reason you are able to say half the crap you say, i’d love to see some of you go into anthoer country and run your mouth the way you do, and see what their leaders do to you.

Anyone who wants a narrow minded arrogant President obviously doesnt care about our countries future and let alone your families future.

Anyone who thinks this a none issue , must have no care for the USA

IN GOD WE STILL TRUST and taking GOD out of our country was the worst thing we could have done.

This quote below says so much, about where the USA has begun to fail, it because everyone WANTS THEIR NATURAL BORN RIGHTS when most werent NATURALLY born here, and everyone wants a say for what they want but forget that the WORLD is not about 1 person it is about all of us living together COMPROMISE is the key not CHANGE so the USA can be ONE WAY and suit 1 MAN.

‘In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.’
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
IT’S TIME TO PAY A LOT MORE ATTENTION TO WHAT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE DOING TO OUR COUNTRY.

IN JUST ONE YEAR!

This email comes in three parts:

Part 1:

In just one year.

Remember the election in 2006?

Thought you might like to read the following:

A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.

19 a gallon;

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;

2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.

50 a gallon;

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

4) American households have seen $2.

3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.

2 trillion dollars;

6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

Remember it’s Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what’s handed to him.

Quote of the Day……..’My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.

– Barack Obama

Part 2:

Taxes…Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.

http://www. taxfoundation. org/publications/show/151. html

Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008

Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500

Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500

Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000

Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates

It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can’t wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don’t even know what happened.
